To still be annoyed that Hermione married Ron?

I know, the last book came out years ago, but I’m re-reading them now with DS and it’s got me annoyed all over again. He’s a mediocre, sulky man-child, while she’s a brilliantly talented witch. Why would she ever marry him?!

She needed someone to stay home and look after the house and the babies while she furthered her career?

He’s quite pretty.

ILoveDolly · 08/09/2018 21:49

Basically I find the whole last chapter a massive let down! I'm sorry Ron but Hermione will eventually meet some brilliant fascinating wizard at the Ministry and that will be that

IrenetheQuaint · 08/09/2018 21:50

So totally unrealistic. But hey, they are children's books.

BitOfFun · 08/09/2018 21:51

I'm with ILoveDolly on this. It would never last.

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/09/2018 21:52

Ron was my favourite character, loyal and resilient. Not what I wanted when I was younger but wonderful in the long term

GreenTulips · 08/09/2018 21:52

It's been quietly bubbling for years - ifcoarse they were going to get married!

Lovely plot twist from the usual main leads falling in love.

RoseGirlsInAVase · 08/09/2018 21:52

The last chapter was terrible. It read like bad fan fiction.

OftenHangry · 08/09/2018 21:53

@Disfordarkchocolate I second that! Was actually quite made up for them

amymel2016 · 08/09/2018 21:53

I’m sure I remember reading in an interview years ago that JK Rowling said she wishes she hadn’t married off Hermione and Ron, she said that she knows he wouldn’t be enough for her

TwentySmackeroos · 08/09/2018 21:54

Agree. Hermione was VU to marry Ron. In the long term, she will feel dissatisfied with the intellectual gap and he will grow resentful of his status. Ron would be more comfortable in a mid level Ministry role, with a crappy car (albeit a flying one), and a SAH wife who will produce the next generation of mid-achieving Weasleys.

PickAChew · 08/09/2018 21:54

Look at the fab in laws she landed herself, though.

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 08/09/2018 21:55

I agree, but to be fair they are quite cute in the cursed child (the show)

rogl · 08/09/2018 21:58

I've always wondered what happened to her parents, she wiped they're memories so surely she would have no family, maybe that was the motivation for marrying Ron

ThomasRichard · 08/09/2018 21:59

Even the on-off romance thing was crap. They were practically brother and sister by the end of the books. And he wasn’t particularly loyal: he stormed off over the goblet of fire and again cos of the camping. He was a PITA really.

There didn’t seem to be any characters who would make a good match for Hermione. She’d definitely be looking at meeting someone at work, probably foreign, who would be her equal. Not waah, I’m hungry and the middle child, Ron.

I'm a saddo --whisper Dramione-. Never thought Hermione and Ron were a match!

LaBellaCinderella · 08/09/2018 22:01

Gah, where was the spoiler alert?! I never read them myself and I’m on book 4 with DS. Can’t believe I’ve got to keep this secret now!!

Tessellated · 08/09/2018 22:03

I didn't like it when I first read the books but as I've matured I've come to really like the pairing.

I think Ron is actually pretty intelligent, but spent his whole life in the shadow of his super successful academic brothers, super funny older brothers, and then when he got to Hogwarts he spent the whole time in Harry's shadow. He's an utter genius at Wizards chess and a really nice, dependable guy

Hopoindown31 · 08/09/2018 22:03

Love is blind as they say. But in Ron's defense he is a child throughout most of the saga and the battles he faced with Harry and Hermione changed him significantly.

glenthebattleostrich · 08/09/2018 22:04

She's going to realise she married the worst brother and fly off on a dragon with Charlie Weasley causing an irreparable rift within the family.

Oysterbabe · 08/09/2018 22:04

We are definitely past the statute of limitations for HP spoilers.

VanGoghsDog · 08/09/2018 22:04

Wait! Hermione marries Ron?

Spoiler alert!

;)

gabsdot · 08/09/2018 22:06

I love Ron. He's my favourite character. Very flawed but steady and loyal. Plus Rupert Grinch is gorgeous.

TheGirlWhoLived · 08/09/2018 22:06

labella

It doesn’t need a spoiler if it’s 10 bloody years old! Spoilers are for things like last weeks eastenders.... or this weeks bake off contestant that was dropped.

Oh, and the titanic sunk. Jack didn’t make it- soz

colouringinpro · 08/09/2018 22:06

Love this thread 😁 How fab a writer is Rowling that this is a thread in 2018. My Dd13 thinks they are a good match, they complement each other and they're both loyal which is a lovely perspective.

Me, a little older Wink thinks at some point she would definitely meet someone who sparks her intellectually, but I suspect she would stay loyal to Ron, but maybe to her detriment.

Not over thinking at all 😁😁😁

colouringinpro · 08/09/2018 22:09

They're supposed to be GrinGrinGrin
