To still be annoyed that Hermione married Ron?

I know, the last book came out years ago, but I’m re-reading them now with DS and it’s got me annoyed all over again. He’s a mediocre, sulky man-child, while she’s a brilliantly talented witch. Why would she ever marry him?!

Agree. Hermione was VU to marry Ron. In the long term, she will feel dissatisfied with the intellectual gap and he will grow resentful of his status. Ron would be more comfortable in a mid level Ministry role, with a crappy car (albeit a flying one), and a SAH wife who will produce the next generation of mid-achieving Weasleys.

Exactly this ^

Also agree the final chapter is atrocious, like badly written fan fiction. As an ending its on a par with 'And then I woke up - it was all a dream.'

Apart from that I love all the HP books and think JKR is brilliant.

BuntyII · 08/09/2018 22:24

Hermione and Cedric would have made a nice couple. Both attractive and intelligent. I won't say more for fear of ruining things for Mrs Spoiler Alert Wink

NellieBee · 08/09/2018 22:24

I definitely agree with @colouringinpro - what an amazing author J.K.Rowling is for us still to be discussing this, all these years later.

I didn't love the R/H pairing when I read the books, but I did when I watched the films. They grow together.

Luna and Neville are DEFINITELY still together.

FishFishFry · 08/09/2018 22:25

I like Ron and Hermione together. I think it shows the immense bonding power of years of shared history. We've surely all got friends from our nursery/primary school days who, on paper, we have nothing in common with as adults, but with whom we keep up enduring and meaningful friendships. Especially if you've been through hard times together. History can matter far more than matching GCSE (or NEWT) scores.

whatever the word is for someone who expects everything to be done for him and complains but doesn’t come up with his own ideas

"Bloke"

garethsouthgatesmrs · 08/09/2018 22:26

You should really have spoiler alert in your title. Not gonna bother reading the HARRY potter series now. Sad

Poor Hermione says something smart or insightful and Ron usually says “Eh?” and he and Harry give each other confused looks. Once the intellectual challenge of working out the Horcruxes, Deathly Hallows had abated I think a lifetime of “Eh?” would have grated.

Fieau · 08/09/2018 22:27

@ThomasRichard
I am not Hermione but I did once get mistaken for Emma Watson on a train Grin

BitOfFun · 08/09/2018 22:27

Did you know that Jane Eyre married Mr Rochester?

Bisquitine · 08/09/2018 22:28

Bloke! Lol at SchadenfreudeGrin

Threads like this are my fave! Such a big Potter geek hence the loser username 😂
As a child I loved them but now I’m an adult it’s clear she’s totally settled for him!

Can we all just take a moment and appreciate Neville growing some balls? He’s one of my absolute favourites always liked his character even the dopey shit scared of his grandma side

picklemepopcorn · 08/09/2018 22:32

I don't agree, she can be all smart Alec at him for the next 50 years, rescuing him from the challenges of everyday life. He can carry her very heavy handbag and hold her coat for her when they're off investigating stuff.

ThomasRichard · 08/09/2018 22:35

Grin @Schadenfreude

Emma Watson is very pretty. My DD looks a lot like film-Hermione on a bad hair day too.

I can see Hermione with a gorgeous American wizard diplomat.

Can’t believe they married

But totes believe everything else

Grin
cheesemongery · 08/09/2018 22:38

She only settled because Snape died.

I know how she feels.

Now there will be now Alan for me either dons mourning veil

I don't think they were any worse than Harry and Ginny, at least Ron and Hermione had a bit of spark - he would have been pinging her bra strap if it was a normal school!

MrsChollySawcutt · 08/09/2018 22:38

Oh, I rather like Hermione settling down with Ron. Their romance bubbles under through the whole series of books.

However I can't abide that Harry married Ginny - just no!

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 08/09/2018 22:38

HarryPotterfan1604 Yes I love how Neville grows too. But I wish it could have turned out that the prophecy was about him all along and he was the one who killed Voldemort. I think bthst would have been the perfect ending. Harry could become normal, just like he wanted to be and Neville would be the hero he deserved to be.

Pringlecat · 08/09/2018 22:40

@Evenmycurveshavecurves YES! Grin

Totally agree. Given how long witches and wizards live for, there really wasn't much of an age gap.

Camomila · 08/09/2018 22:41

I can totally see Hermione and Ron marrying and it working well.
I am a highly strung, anxious academic type and DH is a funny, laidback person who is completely happy doing a standard 9-5 and coming home to his family.

I think Hermione would be smart enough to know she needs someone who can make her relax/chill out every now and then.

Manderleyagain · 08/09/2018 22:41

Evenmycurves. Yikes snape!! Well they sort of had a begrudging respect for each other. And there was something strangely attractive about him once he was played by Alan rickman....

I am more still in recovery from the members of the order she killed off. Such a waste and so unfair. I guess that we the point as it was a war but I wish she hadn't.

AnotherShirtRuined · 08/09/2018 22:43

I always thought Ron and Hermione were made for each other. From the start she was one of the only ones to properly notice Ron next to Harry and his scar, right from 'you have some dirt on your nose', so for me the pairing was very satisfying. I agree that the very last chapter could have been better, though.

PrimalLass · 08/09/2018 22:44

As Neville had the biggest glow-up ever IRL he would probably have gone off to be a wizarding porn star or something.

nolongersurprised · 08/09/2018 22:44

I think she’d fall for someone with very specialised, esoteric interests who she could learn something from. Like wizarding-world expert in ancient-rune interpretation. Or maybe a revolutionary striving towards improved recognition and respect for creatures like House Elves. Ron is the kindly, loving husband who likes a drink and his Quiddich at the end of the day and loves her but doesn’t really get her.

cheesemongery · 08/09/2018 22:45

I'm far too invested now Grin

she's also a bossy little mare, I suspect she'd be happy having a husband like Ron that couldn't really challenge her. Plus he's a pure blood.
