To still be annoyed that Hermione married Ron?

I know, the last book came out years ago, but I’m re-reading them now with DS and it’s got me annoyed all over again. He’s a mediocre, sulky man-child, while she’s a brilliantly talented witch. Why would she ever marry him?!

I was disappointed by the pairings at the end. My Ds told me that was all quite simple. If Hermione had married Harry, then that would have left Ron and Ginny to marry and that would have been illegal. Simple for a 14 year old to explain/understand Grin

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 08/09/2018 23:52

She only settled because Snape died.

Preach, @Evenmycurveshavecurves and @Pringlecat! The soft hearted bit of me doesn't mind Ron and Hermione, but my love for her means I want her to be with someone equally sharp, demanding, high achieving and passionate about academia.

NoLeslie · 08/09/2018 23:53

Luna is ace and shouldn't marry anyone. I think she has a string of affairs with men, women, witches and wizards.

Neville turns out gorgeous and should probably marry me (but do some time travel thing so I'm not old enough to be his mum).

Ron is a bit dull for Hermione imo.

feelingnothing · 08/09/2018 23:53

The way he treats her in the cursed child is even worse, but to be honest I'm going to pretend that book doesn't even exist.

But yes she should of been with at very least victor krum because he treated her like a queen!

theunsure · 08/09/2018 23:54

Nooo! It’s all worked out fine. If they hadn’t married The Cursed Child wouldn’t have worked out the same. And I bloody loved that book/play!

But yes at the time I thought them an unlikely happy ever after!

Butterymuffin · 08/09/2018 23:57

Reckon she has a belated fling with Krum years later while travelling on Ministry business, but then realises that Ron is better for the long term.

Filzma · 08/09/2018 23:57

Agreed. Such a disappointment. In my head they aren't together. Neither are Ginny and Harry.

Draco's Astoria Greengrass was the pretty good because we could all make up any character in our heads for him. Cho Chang married a muggle. Fitting imo. Luna and Rolf Scamander - perfect, much like Bill and Fleur.

Last chapter is erased from my head.

toffee1000 · 09/09/2018 00:01

I'm a bit Hmm at the name Albus Severus, but I could spot James Sirius a mile off. Lily was an inevitable name choice too. I do like that they gave Lily the middle name Luna, I think that was really sweet. I agree that it does sound like Ginny had little input into the names, though.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/09/2018 00:01

Harry Potter is fiction .. you do know that right?

Um - yeah - where has me talking about events in a book ever suggested that I didn't recognise the book was fiction?

Redken24 · 09/09/2018 00:04

Neville as a pornstar? Am I the only one that read that post 😂

corythatwas · 09/09/2018 00:04

Couldn't agree with you more, OP. The one thing that really, really annoys me about Molly Weasley is the way she keeps apologising to him for them being so poor. They're not any poorer than many normal families, he has a lovely house, gets all the food and comforts he needs, in fact one reason he's so moany when they're on the run is because he's a mummy's boy who can't cope without his creature comforts, she spends all her time catering to his and his siblings' comforts, she should bloody well not apologise! Those of us in real life who haven't been able to keep our children in branded clothes and all the trimmings don't go around encouraging them to feel sorry for themselves, she's really not doing him any favours there.

The boy's got all the love and care that Harry has never had, and even Harry is expected to go around feeling sorry for him because he's jealous of his brothers. The only reason he isn't jealous of Ginny is clearly because he doesn't expect much competition from a girl.

What kind of husband is he going to make? With that capacity for getting his nose put out of joint? When the first baby arrives and Hermione's attention isn't on him?

Timeisslippingaway · 09/09/2018 00:13

As usual on MN the caring, normal guy with a regular job isn't good enough because he's not a genius out earning big bucks.

NameChangedNow · 09/09/2018 00:14

Hermione needs someone grounded and down to earth. She and Harry would be an utter utter disaster I think, especially emotionally. She needs someone who doesn't over think and Ron is perfect for that. He would be good for her mental health. She would have a high flying academic research career guiding government policy. He would leave his job as an auror where he was only really average to take care of their children. He would rely on Molly too much at first but eventually Molly would snap and tell him he has to step up to the plate. He does and is a wonderful husband. When kids go to Hogwarts he starts his own business from home making furniture or something similar. He also teaches himself incredible cooking and baking skills.

Filzma · 09/09/2018 00:14

Ron should've been with a Hufflepuff like Hannah Abbot perhaps? She'd probably appreciate him and their difference would attract? Idk, just anyone but Hermione.

Malfoy wouldn't cut it as Hermione's DH (saw some suggest him).

Fred is actually a good fit for her. He would've have brought out her fun side. I picture dancing and hiking with Fred, they'd have twins and she'd still be as ambitious. He'd be entrepreneurial and a great dad to the twins.

Ginny, I never liked her tbh. So not sure who to pair her with.

Harry's SO is tough to find. I think there just never was someone deserving for him. I don't even know what type of character he'd be into. 😔

NameChangedNow · 09/09/2018 00:17

Fred would be AWFUL for Hermione. She'd not be able to live with the uncertainty and lack of planning. He'd say 'oh it will work out stop worrying' and she'd be going out of her bloody mind. He'd not pull his weight at home either and she'd be frustrated and unfulfilled.

Filzma · 09/09/2018 00:17

Now I'll end up on YouTube watching HP related vids. Rabbit hole. Thanks OP.

PickAChew · 09/09/2018 00:18

I tbi k for both hermione and Harry, their respective weasley partners provide them with the solid links to wizard culture that they've previously been denied.

They may both shag each other in a massive m'd life crisis, but, for now, they've found their spiritual and magical home.

Filzma · 09/09/2018 00:20

@NameChangedNow I would imagine after his brothers death, he would step up and shoulder the responsibility. The extreme wildness would tone down. He needs hermione's structure and she needs he's carefree side. She'd obviously wear the pants in the rshp. 😁

NameChangedNow · 09/09/2018 00:21

Given the extreme trauma Harry has gone through, Luna would be amazing. She would reach deep into his psyche with her spiritual stuff and he'd begin his spiritual journey with her. He would become dependent on spirituality to function due to the extreme trauma of his childhood but would have problems with his ego at times. I think he would get over his ego by expressing himself through painting and he would be moderately famous for it in his 50s/60s. He would credit Luna as his rock and his guide and his everything. She would not let it get to her ego by remaining airy fairy. They would have seven children and she'd sail through it all serenely. He would struggle with the kids but have good relationships with them as teens. Later, he may become a trauma psychotherapist for wizards and witches who have battled with dark forces.

NameChangedNow · 09/09/2018 00:23

If he married Ginny they would drift emotionally and divorce. It would go cold pretty fast.

dinosaurkisses · 09/09/2018 00:28

I bet Molly Weasley would be an absolute dragon of a MIL

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/09/2018 00:28

Fred is actually a good fit for her

Spoiler Alert! ... Fred's dead.

NameChangedNow · 09/09/2018 00:34

Whoops we meant George Grin

OhSoSiriusly · 09/09/2018 00:36

Not read the whole thread, so apologies if I'm repeating anything

I've never been overly impressed with the Ron/Hermione pairing, but not so much that I'd be bothered by it. It's better than JK going down the obvious route and marrying her and Harry!
Personally, I can't abide the Harry and Ginny pairing. She's a bit of a non entity of a character, even in Chamber of Secrets. Also, the Weasley family treat Harry like he's one of their own, so it always seems a bit odd to me that they end up together as it's almost like she's a sister to him

Filzma · 09/09/2018 00:38

Sorry George 😱🤪😊
