Do you regret your tattoos

Been wanting a tattoo for years but I know I'm a fickle soul. I'll go through a phase of wanting a certain theme and it passes. I'd like a tattoo for a tattoos sake, but would hate to regret it. Does anyone regret their tattoos how long did you wait until you decided on one?

I don’t.

The place I had mine done won’t even book you in without having the design and then the wait is a couple of months so you need to pretty sure to get it done.

Just avoid the “spur of the moment” type!

Elphame · 10/08/2018 16:29

I was in my 50s when I got mine as I always afraid I'd get tired of it.

What I have now isn't the least bit like anything I would have chosen when I was younger. It's been there 4 years now and I still love it. In fact most people can hardly believe it as I'm the last person you'd expect to have one.

Don't get one "just because" as you may well regret it - if and when the time is right and the design is right then you'll know.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/08/2018 16:33

Got mine at 18- dont regret it, its pretty hidden and simple to get rid of if I wanted..., but I wouldnt get it now that I'm older.
My friend also had one at 18, a giant, multi-coloured one on her stomach, of an album cover she liked. She hates it and due to the colours in it she can never get rid of it.

itis · 10/08/2018 16:33

Yes I regret mine. I got them when I was young and impulsive. I am now forever blessed with a tramp stamp on my lower back Confused

hungryhippo90 · 10/08/2018 16:35

I was 18, in love for the first time, I went and got his name tattooed on my ankle and my daughters name on the other.

I regret it so much,

I’m a short dumpy person, so covering it up is gonna be fairly hard without making my legs which are about 9” long look half the length!

GrumpyCatIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/08/2018 16:36

Yep, I don’t like mine. I wish I’d never done it. Luckily I’m able to hide it up.
There are some lovely designs (mine isn’t one) but even then I wouldn’t have had a tattoo done at all. I was 18 and didn’t think it through properly.

Kerantli · 10/08/2018 16:36

I regret the placement of one of my tattoos, but not the tattoo in itself.

All of mine were spur of the moment ones, and even 10 years after getting my first, and the one regret above, I am glad I got them done

Atetoomanyjaffacakes · 10/08/2018 16:37

I have a small butterfly on my should that I got when I was 18. I am 35 now and always choose clothes the cover it because it just looks tacky. I will probably get it covered when I find something I like and can live with.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 10/08/2018 16:39

I don't regret any of mine. I have 4 different ones and planning more.

Radardetector · 10/08/2018 16:39

One I regret as it was a relationship tattoo.

The others are smallish and I can't really see them so I forget they are there so I can't really regret them. They have become like a mole or birthmark, just part of me.

I think unless you get somthing massive or a bit out there, you'll be fine. Oh and current trend tattoos tend to be regrettee I think.

PinkHeart5914 · 10/08/2018 16:40

No not at all!

I have a star with the name of my stillborn dd underneath it ( after she was born asleep, I was outside with dh and he said she was the brightest star checking we were ok so the star thing stuck)

I also have a birdcage and stopwatch type design on my back

I think tattoos look great when done by an excellent tattoo artist, please make sure you really research them before you let them ink you!

Mousefunky · 10/08/2018 16:40

I got a full arm sleeve done when I was 23/24. I went on to get a career in teaching so it hasn’t affected job prospects at all. If you’re worried about tattoos affecting jobs, never get hand, neck or face tats but anywhere else is fine.

I don’t regret mine at all. I’m glad I waited until I was that age because I had some absolutely hideous ideas for tattoos as a teenager. I wanted a Marilyn Monroe portrait and a big chest piece complete with anchors and ‘hello sailor’ writing .

Rachelweasel · 10/08/2018 16:41

I've got 8. Got one in Magaluf Biscuit which is now covered up (badly) and I regret that. Got a shitty tramp stamp too which needs covering. The rest I don't regret. I've got a couple of my arms which I'm obsessed with, I look at them all the time haha. I think if it's done well and is a design that either means something to you or is something that you won't get bored of, then you won't regret it Smile

FarrahMoan · 10/08/2018 16:41

The one I had done at 18 - yes. But it's a tramp stamp so at least I can't see it

The one I had done when I married again - no

I did think I'd like more but that urge has passed

Mousefunky · 10/08/2018 16:42

Oh and I agree to get ones that mean something to you rather than a generic flash/something that is in fashion. Mine are all personal to me and I’m glad for that.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/08/2018 16:42

No.
In some situations I'd make sure they were covered, but I'd do that with, say my cleavage too.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 10/08/2018 16:43

Nope I still love mine. They're discreet now but they were on show when I was younger. They remind of me of the vivacious person I used to be.

PerfectlyPosed · 10/08/2018 16:43

I have three stars on my wrist and I hate them and wish I could get rid of them. Someone recently asked me if they represent my partner and my children so now I think of them like that and it makes me feel better about them. Would rather they weren't there though!

troodiedoo · 10/08/2018 16:43

Don't regret any of mine, and some were spur of the moment. As soon as they are done they become part of me.
Saying that, I am in the process of having ex husband's name lasered off Grin

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 10/08/2018 16:45

No. Mine is very much of its time, but it isn't awful and it reminds me of who I was at 18. It is also in a place which is easy to cover up if I want to.

lizzybennett1926 · 10/08/2018 16:46

No I love mine

selfishcrab · 10/08/2018 16:46

I had my first 30 years ago on my back, it s quite large but still love it.
I now have more(wrist, foot, leg) and half a sleeve, I a very responsible job , I'm 50+ and have never had a problemgetting jobs or complaint, in fact I get compliments!

DilianaDilemma · 10/08/2018 16:52

I rettet mine. Had it done at 18 together with one of these whirlwind platonic friendships you're probe to at that age. She chose mine and I chose hers.

It wasn't done well and has started bleeding at the edges. It's on my upper arm, so I spend a lot of time Shopping dir dresses with sleeves.

RatherBeRiding · 10/08/2018 16:55

Nope! Both personal and discreet. Easily covered but totally inoffensive even if uncovered.

BlooBagoo · 10/08/2018 16:56

No and all of them were spur of the moment rather than planned ones. I would never have a relationship or name one (other than my children's names.) There are reasons behind them all though and some are a similar idea to ones I'd been considering at some point anyway, but eventually I'll get around to actually booking myself in for one of the many I've had planned for years. They're all part of my story so far though so that makes them all special to me.
