Do you regret your tattoos

Moominfan · 10/08/2018 16:24

Been wanting a tattoo for years but I know I'm a fickle soul. I'll go through a phase of wanting a certain theme and it passes. I'd like a tattoo for a tattoos sake, but would hate to regret it. Does anyone regret their tattoos how long did you wait until you decided on one?

*maturity

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 11/08/2018 11:27

To be honest Waitrose I think that post shows immaturity and low intelligence more than any tattoos!

WaitrosePigeon · 11/08/2018 11:28

What do you mean Blair?

OurMiracle1106 · 11/08/2018 11:29

Still love mine despite it having my ex husbands name in it, design is still pretty and it’s somewhere I am able to cover if I want to

Queenofthedrivensnow · 11/08/2018 11:29

No I don't regret tattoos. I have quite a big one on my spine

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 11/08/2018 11:30

That thinking tattoos are immature and stupid makes you yourself look silly.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/08/2018 11:31

Ah, I see what you mean. I was talking about myself and how I worry other people view it.

I’m a registered nurse working in A&E so far from stupid and immature.

theveryhighlife · 11/08/2018 11:34

Absolutely hate mine, it's small and hidden thankfully. The kids call it my tramp stamp. I'll get round to getting it removed one day.

YeTalkShiteHen · 11/08/2018 11:35

Just as an aside for the tattoo snobs, years ago I was at a book sale with my Grannie at her church. We were in the basement and she was struggling to get to the loo, when an enormous, burly, tattooed prisoner (lifer on day release as part of the booksale) saw me struggling to help my Grannie (not one of the “naice” middle class folk had offered to help and had been making snide comments about the prisoners all day!) and offered to help. He scooped her up and carried her to the loo, then waited outside and brought her back. He then helped us to the car at the end.

So many people had judged him based on his numerous tattoos, yet he was the only one there who offered my wee Grannie a hand!

Tattoos aren’t a measure of someone’s character!

WaitrosePigeon · 11/08/2018 11:37

Thing is I like tattoos in general. For example my husband is covered in them and I love them on his body. I don’t even think twice about them on other people’s bodies. I like tattoos. They just don’t fit in with ‘me’ anymore.

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 11/08/2018 11:37

If it helps, I wouldn’t judge a nurse in a&e for tattoos, I’d just think you’re a person doing a great job helping people!

YeTalkShiteHen · 11/08/2018 11:38

I agree with this! Also agree that if you don’t want your tattoos anymore Waitrose that’s entirely your choice and I didn’t think you were commenting on anyone else’s choices.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/08/2018 11:38

I hope people don’t judge me Blair. If I could get over that maybe I could learn to live with them.

Furx · 11/08/2018 11:46

I like mine, they aren’t what I would get now, and they aren’t where I would put them. I have a gorgeous one as a tramp stamp that would have looked so much nicer on my arm, but I got it done in the early noughties- so it is what it is. I don’t regret that.

I see them as the story of me, on me. Im booked in for another but. I’ve had the design for 18 months and can’t decide where I want it.

BlooBagoo · 11/08/2018 11:46

I love seeing tattoos on anyone in health care as it usually gives me a distraction to talk about when they're doing whatever procedure it is. As long as I don't put them off with my prattling on. Blush

Branleuse · 11/08/2018 11:50

yeah I sometimes regret the big one on my leg, but then i mostly regret the self harm scars underneath that i got the tattoo to cover up. I wish i didnt need either, or i wish id chosen a smaller design as a cover up, but then im not sure it would have worked either. Now I keep thinking i need more so it doesnt look so on its own, but since I dont love LOVE what ive got, maybe that will just intensify it.
I dont massively regret it or anything, but sometimes i feel self conscious, but not as self conscious as i was about the scars

mansplain111 · 11/08/2018 11:50

And I’d definitely never judge a HCP professional with tattoos. The best and most amazing nurse that cared for my dying dad had the most gorgeous full sleeve.

My very first thought when I first saw her was ‘beautiful tattoo‘ not ‘idiot‘

I have quite bad face blindness so I love it when people have visible tattoos, as I can actually recognise them. Especially in settings where everyone has to dress the same.

mansplain111 · 11/08/2018 11:52

That is so very true bloo

I chatted to that nurse about her sleeve, the only bright bit of my memories of those weeks.

nokidshere · 11/08/2018 12:03

What's a tramp stamp as opposed to a tattoo?

YeTalkShiteHen · 11/08/2018 12:04

A tramp stamp (I fucking loathe that expression, it’s misogynistic in the extreme) is a tattoo at the base of the spine (just above your arse crack).

nokidshere · 11/08/2018 12:04

Ah right ta Grin

YeTalkShiteHen · 11/08/2018 12:05

nokidshere I realised my response reads as aggressive, it wasn’t aimed at you sorry! I just really really hate that expression Grin

nokidshere · 11/08/2018 12:09

yetalk

It's ok I got that Wink

YeTalkShiteHen · 11/08/2018 12:10

nokidshere oh good, I was a bit worried Smile

BanginChoons · 11/08/2018 12:25

(I fucking loathe that expression, it’s misogynistic in the extreme)

I hate the expression too. It's ridiculous.
