Do you regret your tattoos

Moominfan · 10/08/2018 16:24

Been wanting a tattoo for years but I know I'm a fickle soul. I'll go through a phase of wanting a certain theme and it passes. I'd like a tattoo for a tattoos sake, but would hate to regret it. Does anyone regret their tattoos how long did you wait until you decided on one?

I’m very glad and relieved to hear that some people don’t judge me. Thank you.

CookPassBabtridge · 11/08/2018 12:44

I never had one but just commenting as I know I would be regretting it now as my tastes change all the time.

BanginChoons · 11/08/2018 12:56

@WaitrosePigeon, I'm a tattooed HCP too. I don't feel people judge me, not on my appearance anyway. I'm pretty sure they are more bothered by the quality of care I can provide.

I know that some staff can be shallow/judgemental but I refuse to let them make me feel inferior.

What has made you feel this way?

TheHobbitMum · 11/08/2018 13:00

Nope not at all, I'll be extending to a full back piece and sleeve over the next year. I've definitely got the tattoo bug Grin

FrayedHem · 11/08/2018 13:03

There was a HCP with tattoos in the room when I had my EMCS with DS2. I can't remember what his job was(!), but I do remember feeling comforted by the sight of his tattoos.

starzig · 11/08/2018 13:17

They need to invent temporary tattoos that last for 6 months or something. This is about how long a tattoo idea runs with me before in change my mind.

PrincessIsAUnicorn · 11/08/2018 14:55

No, I have 2 and still love them. I have Eeyore on my right (inside) hip and and anklet on my right ankle and my sons initial coming off of it.
I looked up pictures of tattoos I liked off the internet, saved them to my phone, kept looking at them every couple of weeks and deleting the ones that I went off of, after a year I was left with just one photo, which I left on for another 6 months, still liked it so went to my friends tattooist who liked my idea, booked me in and it was on my ankle 4 weeks later. I'd never get a spur of the moment tattoo, I think I'd regret it. I would love to have at least 2 more, but it's the money that stops me, although I know exactly what I'd like 🙃

Crushcuz · 11/08/2018 15:15

I just love how the rudest, insulting, ignorant and highly judgmental comments on here are all from non-tattooed folk Smile

Don't regret any of mine.

JustGettingStarted · 11/08/2018 16:41

I have a tattoo covering my entire body and face. The design is of negative space.

It's increasingly rare to see someone else with the same.

No regrets.

Lilyhatesjaz · 11/08/2018 18:31

I don't have any tattoos and wouldn't want any but some times I notice nice ones on other people. There was a girl serving in the pub with a really beautiful design of flowers like dandelions on her arm in really nice colours. I wanted to look more closely but didn't want to be rude.

Moominfan · 11/08/2018 19:30

I just air their responses crash, nobody asked them :)

Health Care Professional

PolytheneSam · 11/08/2018 20:23

It's a fad, like Pokémon or foxtrot. Look at pictures of celebrities or your parents of 20+ years ago and you'll see no one with a tattoo in the western world.

Unlike Pokémon or a bad hairstyle you won't be able to casually dispose of it in a decade or so and claim "oh no I never fell for it".

Um....yeah you do.

YeTalkShiteHen · 11/08/2018 20:24

PolytheneSam tell that to the old soldiers covered in tattoos I looked after in care homes!

Erm.. I had my first tattoo 20 years ago!

Pebbles16 · 11/08/2018 21:47

Mine is tiny and well hidden. I sometimes surprise myself when I see it. And it reminds me of younger times. So all good

Fabricwitch · 11/08/2018 21:58

I don't regret any of mine.

IllBeAtTheBarIfYouNeedMe · 11/08/2018 22:02

Although I may not love each tattoo I have, each one tells a story. Tbf I only have one that I’m not keen on (because they got it wrong and I was too drunk to notice immediately) but I don’t regret it/then

PolytheneSam · 12/08/2018 15:15

Vietnam US soildiers.

As you can see they are full of tattoos goo.gl/images/5dJY3z

Same thing for sports or entertainment: compare pictures 20+ years to now and you can see that tattoos were a rarity. Now it's difficult to find any contemporary celebrity without one.

I would recommend against anything permanent because you don't know how you will feel 20 years from now and how fashion will have developed.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 12/08/2018 15:37

Honestly yes I do regret them. I am thankful however that I didn't have them anywhere visible to others.

dustarr73 · 12/08/2018 18:44

Do you include your kids in that( lighthearted)

sayanythingelse · 12/08/2018 20:11

I'm quite heavily tattooed and in some ways I do regret them when it comes to my professional life. I've never had an employer tell me to cover up my tattoos but I do worry that I'll be less favoured in interviews.

Tattoos are definitely more commonplace now though. As little as 5 years ago, I'd get alot of comments from strangers asking me what my tattoos were, did they have meaning, where I got them done, etc. Now no one gives a shiny shit, I can't remember the last time anyone even took notice of my tattoos Grin

NotUmbongoUnchained · 12/08/2018 20:15

Don’t regret any of mine and neither does my husband.
