Do you regret your tattoos

Been wanting a tattoo for years but I know I'm a fickle soul. I'll go through a phase of wanting a certain theme and it passes. I'd like a tattoo for a tattoos sake, but would hate to regret it. Does anyone regret their tattoos how long did you wait until you decided on one?

NationalShiteDay · 10/08/2018 21:58

No I still really like mine but I waited YEARS to find the right design and artist.

Bumdishcloths · 10/08/2018 22:03

I don't even think about mine anymore to be honest, most of them are on my back which I don't see very often Grin the ones on my arms I don't even really see anymore, if you see what I mean - I've had them for so long they're part of the furniture

Clionba · 10/08/2018 22:19

Genuine question - why do people have them on their back where they can't see them?

BanginChoons · 10/08/2018 22:23

I love mine. I get them drawn up for me by my tattoo artist, so they are individual to me. Mine are very meaningful, in a way they tell my life story. I'd like some not so serious ones, maybe in future. There are many designs I've seen that I love, but wouldn't have as not personal to me.

I did cover my first one, not because I didn't like it but because it was a tiny tattoo in a big space, which could be better used for a bigger design!

littlepeas · 10/08/2018 22:23

Yes. I have a crap lily on my shoulder that I had done on my 16th birthday. About to turn 36, so it’s been there 20 years. I occasionally think about having it covered with something that is at least good and well executed but that means an even bigger tattoo when really I don’t want one at all.

Bumdishcloths · 10/08/2018 22:24

@Clionba I chose to put mine there as it was a big old expanse of free skin - plus it meant they wouldn't affect job prospects

Tiredtomybones · 10/08/2018 22:25

Yes. Hate mine now. Too big, too prominent. It's on my lower leg and I cringe every time I look at it.

Clionba · 10/08/2018 22:29

Right. The other day I was behind a woman who had a top on with a very low back. She had a poem tattooed on her back in cursive script. It was quite long, but I was reading it and couldn't stop! It just occurred to me that she couldn't read it! Hmm

LogicMakesSense · 10/08/2018 22:32

I have 5 and hate 3 of them. I would tell anyone thinking of getting one to decide on a design and wait a year. And also think they should increase the age to 25 Grin

If I had spare money I would have them removed in an instant.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 10/08/2018 22:36

Clion I have mirrors & DH sees them regularly.
Personally I find certain areas attractive for tattoos so that is where I have them.

CantankerousCamel · 10/08/2018 22:39

I have a vine that runs from my shoulder to my thigh.

It doesn’t matter if it’s rarelu/never seen in its entirety, it’s cool as fuck

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 10/08/2018 23:01

Yes. Tramp stamp from early 00's.

I would actually get another tattoo but I'd get a design that meant something to me my entire life (connected to the place I grew up) rather than a random design I've gone off. If there's anything you've liked since childhood - pick that. If your tastes change, I wouldn't.

CantankerousCamel · 10/08/2018 23:02

To all those with tattoos they regret;

I am a massage therapist and of the 1000’s of people i see, 90% have tattoos they regret Grin

Don’t worry about it. You’re in good plentiful company

Musicalstatues · 10/08/2018 23:09

I had 3 tattoos done in my late teens. Loved them at the time but that was a very particular time of my life. A few years later I paid for laser removal and they are now gone. It wasn’t specifically the tattoos I didn’t like but the reminder of that time of my life. The tattoos cost me about £110 to have done and many times that to have removed (and a lot more pain!!) but despite all that strangely I don’t regret any of it and am considering another tattoo now.

MazDazzle · 10/08/2018 23:16

I got my first tattoo at 15 and several others in my teens. Thankfully, they were all in places I could cover as I grew to hate some of them.

In the last couple of years I’ve had a few large, custom tattoos done and I love them. Thankfully, after being told lazer removal was the only option, I found an amazing tattoo artist and they were able to cover up the ones I didn’t like.

Don’t choose a design that’s currently popular. Instead, choose something that’s personal to you. There’s less chance you’ll regret it.

MazDazzle · 10/08/2018 23:19

Cantankerous I used to cringe getting a massage or wouldn’t go at all because I was so embarrassed by my old tattoos: flowers, fairies and (shudder) a tramp stamp. All covered now with beautiful designs, thankfully.

DesignStatement · 10/08/2018 23:24

Never had a tattoo, never wanted one ~ but curious, so many tattoos on people's backs and rear ends. The 'wearer' can't see them, so whose benefit have they got them for?

CantankerousCamel · 10/08/2018 23:24

Maz

You shouldn’t be, I can guarantee they’ve seen worse!

Faster · 10/08/2018 23:26

Nope. I have a half sleeve and a few little ones dotted about. It’s just skin. I like how they look. Couldn’t give a sideways arse about what anyone else thinks. And I say that as a patient facing healthcare worker.

BonnieF · 10/08/2018 23:27

I haven’t got any tattoos, but my friend has, and she hates it.

She had it done when she was a student, and now she’s a proper, grown-up professional who would be absolutely mortified if her colleagues or clients knew about it. It’s a tramp stamp, of course, and she dresses to hide it at work at all times.

Foslady · 10/08/2018 23:37

Another one here who has thought often about getting a tattoo but constantly changes the design then goes off it then thinks of something else......bloody nightmare me!!!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/08/2018 23:43

Genuine question - why do people have them on their back where they can't see them?

Mine is on my shoulder, I had it done at 28, I'm now 52.

I picked the shoulder (so yes, I suppose its my back) because that skin was and still is taut. On my bumcheek or stomach the rose would look like a cabbage by now Blush

99% of the time I forget its there but if I wear a strappy top , I can show it off.
I don't want another one but I love the one I have . I think it needs a colour touch up sometime.

Neweternal · 10/08/2018 23:51

I wonder if the fashion will end. I know everyone gets them done and they're not edgy anymore. I do sometimes look a tattooed people and think your going to show your age when your older by your fashion fad tattoos. Love seeing non tattooed men's torsos, rare sight these days!

RightyHoChaps · 11/08/2018 01:11

Love mine! And I got it in quite an obvious place... on my wrist.

I wanted a tattoo since I was a teen but knew that I would regret getting something I wanted then. I wanted to be sure it was something I wouldn't get bored of or regret.

So I waited til my 27th birthday! I got something that has always meant something to me. It's always been something I'm interested in and had a very personal meaning for me. So I don't regret it.

I want to get another one but want to pick something else that really means alot.

I think that's my best advice. Pick something that you love and has stayed with you throughout the years.

TheDarkPassenger · 11/08/2018 01:40

I’ve got loads and don’t regret any. Even the random ones done randomly. Mine are thick lined punk style tattoos that should age fairly well but if not oh well! I’ve had most of them years and still love them.

Only annoying thing is having to cover them for both jobs. I’ve fainted 3 times at work in this heat in a hot restaurant running about with a huge blazer on! My other job isn’t a nessecity to hide them but it makes people less uncomfortable!
