Do you regret your tattoos

Been wanting a tattoo for years but I know I'm a fickle soul. I'll go through a phase of wanting a certain theme and it passes. I'd like a tattoo for a tattoos sake, but would hate to regret it. Does anyone regret their tattoos how long did you wait until you decided on one?

Yes, I regret.

It's a tiny love heart with a halo above it in my ankle. I had it done 20 odd years ago and at the time it seemed fun and edgy. Now with tatoos more common than breathing and being older it just seems so naff. Fortunately, I can cover it with a small round flesh coloured plaster. Had it been bigger and in a more noticeable place I would have paid for it to be removed.

I don't regret mine at all. They were carefully thought out, and I researched local tattooists. I ended up going about two hours away for my biggest one because that was where the best portrait tattooist was.

I think if it's something that means something personal to you, and in the right place, done by a good, reputable artist, then you're unlikely to regret it.

I have 4. I had my first at 40, and I don't regret any of them. Two half sleeves and a wrist tattoo, so I can cover most of them up if I want to.

Thinking about an ankle one - I'm in my mid 50s.

And as to what I'll look like when I'm 90 - I should think I'll look like somebody who didn't care what everybody else thought.

ENormaSnob · 10/08/2018 18:00

I have 4 and love them Smile

KinkyAfro · 10/08/2018 18:02

Really dislike mine, had 6 sessions of laser removal and they almost gone

sulflower · 10/08/2018 18:05

I regret mine. It's not very big (on my hip) and the only time anyone sees it is when I wear a bikini but I hate it.

YeTalkShiteHen · 10/08/2018 18:07

No, it runs down my forearm (script) and is very personal (in memory of a close friend who was murdered) and can easily be covered if I have to.

MaMisled · 10/08/2018 18:11

I did. Upper arm tattoo at 17, cover up job at 40. Didn't wear anything sleeveless until I hit 52 when I ceased caring!

Wrongwayup · 10/08/2018 18:12

Just got mine. Wednesday. Very fine on wrist. Can be hidden by my watch. It had 2 close family members initials who i recently lost hidden in it. Love it so far. Ok only 2 days!

Moominfan · 10/08/2018 18:12

Neshoma I saw this magnificent looking king grey haired women with sleeves on both arms. Ageing was a concern of mine but she looked soo cool. If I don't get any anytime soon I definitely will as an older lady :)

WhiteHartLane · 10/08/2018 18:19

I have 2, got my 1st at 18 and although I don't regret it I wish I'd chosen a different place for it as it has stretched after 2 pregnancies.

Got 2nd tattoo earlier this year at 35, really happy with it but think I'll stop at 2.

hannnnnnnxo · 10/08/2018 18:21

I’m in the same position as you, I know where I want them but I’m not 100% set on what exactly I want done. The good side of this is that I have actually gone off some of the designs that I did love in the past, so I’m glad I didn’t get those done. Here’s hoping that eventually I figure it out and get something that is perfect for me.

Angie169 · 10/08/2018 18:21

I had a small one on the top of my arm when I was about 19 I still like it and plan on getting it recoloured.
I would like another but can not decide what I want

Bluelonerose · 10/08/2018 18:28

I've got about 20 tattoos.
I only have 2 that don't have a meaning behind them though. 1 on my leg which I love and a tramp stamp which I'm not overly thrilled with now (can't say regret coz I can't see ot) but it was my first one and everyone was getting them.
Hopefully booking in to get my arm finished before the end of the year.

I love putting on a sleeveless or strappy dress in the summer and showing clear skin. I am glad I never had a tattoo.

I have one that’s 12 years old and small and in a place most people would consider a mistake now, but I still love it because it represents something important to be at the time.
I’ve just got a huge one, I love it, I was like you and wanted another for years and kept changing my mind on it. But I love it so much, it’s really helping me love my body which has changed so much it hardly feels like mine. This has helped me reclaim it.

MaggieAndHopey · 10/08/2018 19:07

I have hunners of tattoos and I don't regret any of them. I do sometimes wish I had a couple of spare bodies to accommodate everything I still want to get.

MaggieAndHopey · 10/08/2018 19:09

(none of mine are personal or significant either - or, any significance they have relates to the time in my life they remind me of)

gwenneh · 10/08/2018 19:16

Nope.

Over the years I've worked some of the smaller, earlier ones into a larger overall design, which has made me even happier with them.

LoveMoreSleepPlease · 10/08/2018 19:17

My husband regrets all 3 of his and is undergoing hugely expensive and painful tattoo removal!! He had them very young though but it puts me off ever having one ...

SpectacularAardvark · 10/08/2018 19:24

My DH regrets his, it does look shit to be honest. Grin

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 10/08/2018 19:26

I really want one but am scared of the pain...

PavlovianLunge · 10/08/2018 19:32

I’m really too fickle to have a tattoo, so I think I’d end up regretting it. But from another angle, over the years I’ve had a few henna tattoos, which I’ve loved, one in particular, which I’ve kept a photo of. I still toy with the idea of having that one replicated with a permanent or semi-permanent tattoo, so maybe, one day...
