To think that men that wear panama hats are twats?

Disclaimer. 70+ are acceptable as it’s much more their era.

Otherwise, every man that I’ve met that’s been say 30-40 who wore one, has been a twat. Usually arrogant, think they’re a bit posh, above everyone else. It’s such a look at me piece. Often they’re worn by people who are odd too, thinking they’re “classy”.

AIBU to loathe these things. I see them and cringe.

Why does it bother you what someone else wears?

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2018 21:13

Very practical in this weather.

barneymcgroo · 26/07/2018 21:13

Any man if he's losing his hair needs to be careful about sunburn on top. A Panama is fairly lightweight, breathable and rolls up to go in your luggage. What would you prefer?

FlyingMonkeys · 26/07/2018 21:14

The man from Del Monte thinks you are very unreasonable

Amanduh · 26/07/2018 21:14

Yabu and a twat

aperolspritzplease · 26/07/2018 21:14

Yabu

I was about to go on a massive 6 page rant about how Ricard O'Brien wears one and he's brilliant...

But you said 70+ is fine so I won't

Knittedfairies · 26/07/2018 21:15

Yes you are being unreasonable.

TheFaerieQueene · 26/07/2018 21:15

I’m sure you only wear clothes that have 100% global approval. 🤨

RobinEggs · 26/07/2018 21:15

The only reliable indicator me I’ve found of identifying twats are personalised number plates and pinkie rings. I used to include red trousers on my list but I know at least 2 men tha wear red trousers that aren’t twats. Deck shoes are fairly reliable. I’ve not assessed Panama hats yet but I will from now on.

Si1ver · 26/07/2018 21:15

Yes YABU.

What would you suggest a bald man wears in this weather to protect his head? Maybe a lightweight, breathable yet protective hat? Like a Panama?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 26/07/2018 21:15

MrMagnoliasBoot · 26/07/2018 21:16

Kind of extreme feelings about a hat

whatareyoueatingNOW · 26/07/2018 21:16

Yabu. I wish hats would come back with full force! In all their forms and glory. More power to them I say- keep hats to the over 70s and they'll be completely gone within 30 years!

LapinR0se · 26/07/2018 21:16

DH wears a panama and looks great in it

So what is your preference?
What should they be wearing?

DownAtFraggleRock · 26/07/2018 21:21

My late dad wore one and he was utterly lovely. He died at 62 so not in your 'allowable' age bracket

Hmm
ThunderInMyHeart · 26/07/2018 21:22

Snort @ CaptainKirk

singadream · 26/07/2018 21:22

Yabu. Dh is 30s. Not posh. I bought him one. Looks great.
