Otherwise, every man that I’ve met that’s been say 30-40 who wore one, has been a twat. Usually arrogant, think they’re a bit posh, above everyone else. It’s such a look at me piece. Often they’re worn by people who are odd too, thinking they’re “classy”.

AIBU to loathe these things. I see them and cringe.

Ok, barely anyone in the North wears Panama hats. Certainly nobody in my part of the north wears them!

My DH has a panama hat. He's neither a twat nor posh. He is odd though, I give you that, but not in a look at me kind of way.

My DH wears a panama on his bean-head to cover the thinning hair. He’s no more a twat than the average male. It’s the only style of hat that suits him.

My dad wore one up until he died in his early 60's. He was well known for wearing it and everyone loved him. He most certainly wasn't a twat unlike the op.

YABVU. A Panama hat is a gentleman’s headwear and very cool indeed.

No rain for nearly 10 weeks here, 23 degrees outside at 11.30 pm and forecast 37 degrees tomorrow. Panama hat the most practical lightweight, ventilated headwear for anybody! Cooler and smarter than any other headwear out there.

So much smarter than a hideous, common baseball cap.

My grandma said my 28-year-old brother is far too old to wear a baseball cap and said he should wear a Panama hat instead. This suggestion was met with disgust from both my brother and I.

If you could see my brother you would know he is FAR more suited to the baseball cap.

I wear my DH’s old Panama on hols because it’s comfortable and practical.
I also look pretty damn cool!

I don’t mind Panama hats. It’s the flat caps on the under 40s that look . Ant McPartlin wears one and he’s definitely a twat.

My dh has been wearing one (off and on,not continuously) for seven years. But he wasn’t a twat until he sat on my reading glasses on Tuesday.

DF has worn one for the fifty years I've been alive, so didn't always meet your 70+ rule. He's an absolute gentleman and always has been. I suspect your AIBU should have been "some people who wear panamas are twats" or even - wait for it - "AIBU:some people are twats".
