To wonder how high the correlation is between Brexit supporters and Trump supporters

The press conference with Theresa May and Donald Trump today was one of the most bizarre things I've ever witnessed.

There's no logic in what Trump says, whether that be a recorded newspaper interview was 'fake news' or that he'd been in power for 160 days.

It seems he literally doesn't care what the truth is, he just says things as they pop into his head.

I honestly can't see why people support him, but likewise, I honestly can't see why people support Brexit.

Both defy logic to me.

The common theme between the 2 is immigration though.

Do Leave voters agree with Trump?

Over the last few months I’ve had the chance to complete an in depth study and my findings are that it’s a very strong correlation.

(It was a very small sample size though - my mother).

Bearbehind · 13/07/2018 21:06

That made me laugh buteo 😂

I voted leave, but think Trump is an absolute joke. Sorry to disappoint

Tronkmanton · 13/07/2018 21:09

Similar correlation to Obama supporters and Remainers? Grin

Heratnumber7 · 13/07/2018 21:09

Leave voter here. Not a Trump supporter though.

CheeseTheDay · 13/07/2018 21:13

I've got 23 Brexit voting family members and friends on my Facebook (they are ones I know to be Brexit voters anyway), and all but two of them, have been posting pro-Trump stuff today. The other two have made it clear they're NOT Trump fans. So in my small sample of Brexit voters, the correlation is very strong!

IvorHughJarrs · 13/07/2018 21:15

There's a clear correlation in the minds of those Remainers who like to think those in both groups are elderly, uneducated racists.

Other than that, probably not so much

Bearbehind · 13/07/2018 21:19

So prove my theory wrong then ivor

It seems to me that the link is if you vote Leave based on immigration you support Trump.

If you voted Leave for other reasons I'm interested to hear what you think of Trump.

Always thought that Trump was a bit on tangerine buffoon, until I saw 'You've Been Trumped' the 2011 documentary about the Scottish golf course. His behaviour was objectionable and the Scottish authorities toadying to him was nauseating. I Loathed him and was shocked at his rise to power. I am a Brexit fan but think today's protests are over the top and embarrassing. I posted in another thread that RECENT official visits by Saudi and Turkey have far worse human rights/lack of equality and although there were protests they were miniscule compared to today.

Buteo · 13/07/2018 21:22

elderly, uneducated racists.

You’ve met my mother then?

lljkk · 13/07/2018 21:23

Very similar demographics, they both especially appeal to swing voters who tend to decide most polls. "Nothing to lose" and "Can't trust the elite, Want to stick it to the elite" mentalities.

Bearbehind · 13/07/2018 21:24

I do agree that today's protests were somewhat baffling given other visitors who've done worse.

I just find it incredible that people support Trump when everything that comes out of his mouth is contradictory nonsense.

CambridgeAnaglypta · 13/07/2018 21:26

Yes because everyone who voted leave loves Trump Hmm

FlipFlopF · 13/07/2018 21:26

I HATE everything Trump stands for and passionately detest the man.

I voted leave.

I am not uneducated, racist, anti-immigration etc... as some in the remain camp might assume.

I would vote leave again.

If it was up to me, Trump would NOT have been allowed his visit and I would far rather the £10 million it has cost had been spent on the NHS, prisons, education and emergency services

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 13/07/2018 21:30

I voted leave.

Can not stand Trump (or Farage, Boris Johnson, etc.)

kalapattar · 13/07/2018 21:31

I would imagine that many UK people who support Trump probably also voted to Leave.

I would be surprised if many people who voted to remain in the EU are Trump supporters.

But there are probably many people who voted to leave who are not Trump supporters.

It would be an interesting Venn diagram.

KennDodd · 13/07/2018 21:32

My opinion (happy to be shown I'm wrong)

Not all Leave voters support Trump but, all Trump supporters voted Leave.

Never met a Trump supporting Remainer.

BischBaschBosch · 13/07/2018 21:33

I voted leave and think Trump is a dangerous prat.

BischBaschBosch · 13/07/2018 21:34

to the other educated, well read and well informed leave voters on the thread Smile

Bearbehind · 13/07/2018 21:35

Interesting point kenndodd

You're quite right, I don't think I've ever come across a Trump supporting Remainer.

OP posts:
Topseyt · 13/07/2018 21:37

DH was a Leave voter and doesn't like Trump.

I was a Remain voter and don't like Trump. It is one of the things we have in common. WinkGrin

Trump is an arse.

foxssoxareinthebox · 13/07/2018 21:38

Does it matter? Confused

kalapattar · 13/07/2018 21:38

Plenty of well educated people not understanding correlation here.

There is probably a correlation between Trump supporters and people who voted Leave.

I wonder what the probability of someone voting Leave as, given they are a Trump supporter?

I would say 99%.

kalapattar · 13/07/2018 21:39

Is anyone going to admit to being a Trump supporter?

20nil · 13/07/2018 21:45

The strongest correlation is Brexit= pro death penalty. I’ll see if I can find the report.
