To wonder how high the correlation is between Brexit supporters and Trump supporters

The press conference with Theresa May and Donald Trump today was one of the most bizarre things I've ever witnessed.

There's no logic in what Trump says, whether that be a recorded newspaper interview was 'fake news' or that he'd been in power for 160 days.

It seems he literally doesn't care what the truth is, he just says things as they pop into his head.

I honestly can't see why people support him, but likewise, I honestly can't see why people support Brexit.

Both defy logic to me.

The common theme between the 2 is immigration though.

Do Leave voters agree with Trump?

Well no as we shall all pay for the price for us leaving the EU

Some industries and areas in the country far more than others

Who and where will struggle the most is yet to be seen

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 16/07/2018 20:34

It'll be alright, I'm from the future, I know.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/07/2018 20:43

It’s leave voting areas that will be worst affected as they contain the multi nationals that will ship out. Also the loss of EU grants. It’s ok though because apparently things couldn’t get worse for leave voters anyway.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/07/2018 21:03

Is that a fact

We don’t know - not knowing is bad for investment overall (not that these areas saw much investment for job opportunities and growth)

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/07/2018 21:07

Government impact assessments suggest it.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/07/2018 21:13

The government have said many things about us leaving and one is that things will be difficult before they get better

I believe many people understood that to be the case it hadn’t improved for them yet it had for others over the years like I said before many were willing to take that gamble they were angry at being left behind

But who where and when is still unsure and that in itself is damaging

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/07/2018 21:23

A bus that had 350 million for the NHS on it did not give the impression of years of hardship post Brexit. It gave the impression there would be stacks of cash to lavish on "the people" ASAP.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 16/07/2018 21:24

A bus did that?

BAD BUS!!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/07/2018 21:26

yes, lets air brush out all the inconvienant parts of the leave campaign. Michael Gove has admitted that the Turkey scaremongering was a mistake. Its the reason my FIL voted leave.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/07/2018 21:34

Well maybe you haven’t listen to as many radio shows or read as many comments from leave voters as I have

Some reasons are stupid (as some of the remain reasons) but they differ and your FIL voted for what he believed as others did -

I was tempted not to vote as I don’t have a good enough enough understanding despite my research but I did becuase I was given the chance to

I don’t claim to know better than those who voted leave becuase the vast majority of us have very little understanding of how the EU works

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/07/2018 21:38

We are beyond the point of what voters want. They had their say in June 2016. We are now at the point were the government need to implement Brexit. Part of the this process was analysis- the impact assessments. So Clive and Sheila from Stoke might have voted to take back control but they are going to be poorer for it and if they work in the automotive industry they might be having sleepless nights now.

Joysmum · 16/07/2018 21:39

The Leave campaign was a shower of shite and highly embarrassing.

I’m just glad my education was in economics and economic history so I could vote Leave in spite of the campaign, not because of it.

They’d have done better to point out all the things that currently people don’t tend to agree with, the lack of ability to ‘make a difference’ to EU policy, and the uncertainty that the future holds for members given how different the EU I’d now compared to 10-15 years ago.

Likewise the Remsin campaign didn’t address any of these points because they weren’t raised!

The electorate were denied decent debate and both sides are to blame.

Sorry haven't read the full thread. But from an outside perspective, I have English relations and American ones. When they came to a wedding in Ireland in June 2016, all they could talk about was immigration when anyone asked about Brexit/Trump.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 16/07/2018 23:13

We're the laughing stock of Europe.
But thankfully Trump saved us from being the laughing stock of the world.

user1457017537 · 17/07/2018 10:25

We haven’t got strong negotiators negotiating the deal.

Yaralie · 09/08/2018 14:42

I can't imagine many Remainers supporting Trump.
