To Not Want England To Win The World Cup.

I am not English I am Welsh and rarely support English teams, but I have got caught up in the excitement of the teams achievements and until yesterday thought it would be fabulous if they did actually win the World Cup.

Then I saw the damage caused across the country but so called fans so called celebrating the quarter final win and thought God forbid they win what the hell will happen across country when the yobs celebrate that!

I also think that 'young lady' photographed jumping on an ambulance along with her companions and the ones photographed on bus shelters should be named shamed and charged with criminal damage and the same goes for anyone else who does not know how to celebrated in decent law abiding way.

This is a very disappointing reaction to what should be a happy and proud celebration

It is sad it’s happened. I don’t know what makes people tick sometimes.

Sparklingbrook · 08/07/2018 17:06

I am more worried about the violence and anti social behaviour that will ensue if England don't win TBH.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 08/07/2018 17:07

Well they aren’t indicative of the whole country, many (most) aren’t behaving like that.

I doubt you’d want us to win if you didn’t see that in the news to be honest. It’s all we ever hear. I’d be cheering for Wales if they’d got this far and we hadn’t.

CharlieAustinsMagicHat · 08/07/2018 17:07

It’s a tiny majority though, 20m watched it on TV yesterday and managed to celebrate without any idiocy.

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/07/2018 17:08

It will likely be worse if they don’t!

CurlsLDN · 08/07/2018 17:09

If you look in the background of the photo of the girl on the ambulance you'll see the shard being built.. a building that was completed years ago...

Fluffyears · 08/07/2018 17:09

Will we still have the heat about it for 50+ years?

Bahhhhhumbug · 08/07/2018 17:10

I'm with you there, lm of Irish descent and find all these George crosses offensive and hate what they symbolise which seems to be thuggery more than national pride.

NC4Now · 08/07/2018 17:11

YABU. You can support the team and want them to win while still disapproving of the disorderly behaviour of some fans.

I don’t want people to act like thugs. I still want England to win though.

HoneyDragon · 08/07/2018 17:11

The team deserve support. They didn’t cause this.

Why not blame their parents for raising shitheads, the bars and supermarkets that served them alcohol or the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Sadly, some people will take anything as an excuse to behave like yobbish thugs.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 08/07/2018 17:11

You find our flag offensive?? Grow up!

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 17:11

Don’t be so ridiculous op. That’s like saying we should ban swimming because some people drown or ban shops as some people steal from them.

What’s all this hate at football. Agree yobbish bwhaviour should be dealt with but think of the boost to the economy this weather and the matches are having.

To want a country’s team to loose is a really sad way to think. I see you are welsh, like my mum.Plenty of yobbish behaviour there too you know amongst idiots.

frankie001 · 08/07/2018 17:11

People will go overboard if we win. People will go overboard if we lose. There will be aspects that won’t be pretty either way. But I agree that these supporters are idiots.

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 17:12

You hate the English flag? Do grow up dear

nancy75 · 08/07/2018 17:12

There are probably what 5 or 6 of these stories about idiots being shown on every news paper website? It’s hardly like the whole country went mad and smashed the place up.
I hate the anyone but England feeling from the rest of the home nations, I always support Wales/ Scotland/N Ireland in sporting events and so do most people I know.

SharronNeedles · 08/07/2018 17:13

The thing that worries me is Facebook has lit up with people slagging off this girl for standing on the ambulance, people getting really nasty about her (weight, calling her a slag, death threats etc). There are pictures of two men jumping on that car and other pictures of a topless man also jumping on the car however these haven't been shared or reacted to in the same way at all. Yes she should be held accountable for her actions and forced to pay towards to repairs, however so should everyone else who climbed on that car.
It's absolutely disgusting behaviour and I have no engaged in the world cup fandom at all, however I find it really sad that we can't have nice things happen without half the country ruining it for the rest. DH, his mates, all my male relatives are all so into football and have been loving all our wins and the possibility of us winning the cup, however they celebrate with a couple of pints and a pizza. I think DH did break a glass but that was from jumping in celebration and knocking it over by accident. Just a shame!

swimmerlab · 08/07/2018 17:13

You must realise that it's a minute percentage of supporters that behave in such a disgraceful way?

I'm not sure you ever really wanted England to win did you?

nancy75 · 08/07/2018 17:14

As for someone hating our flag, it’s just pathetic - funny how we are happy to celebrate St Patrick’s day along with the Irish but they moan about us flying our flag in our own country

Seasawride · 08/07/2018 17:15

And op I totally supported wales when they did so well 2 years ago. Most English people did. What a horrible attitude this hating the English. Yeuk racist

GunpowderGelatine · 08/07/2018 17:16

The yobbish behaviour has been disgusting. But it's not fair to say a good team who've played well don't deserve a win because of a few mindless idiots

Happypuppy · 08/07/2018 17:16

I’m also Welsh and really want England to win the World Cup. The English fans I know graciously supported us when we went as far as the semis in Europeans 2016.

There’s always some idiots that spoil it but it’s too small a majority to get too worried about.

Good point to the PP who noted the Shard being built in the picture! 😮

GunpowderGelatine · 08/07/2018 17:17

And agree re being pathetic to find a flag offensive. I thought only EDL supporters flouted that sad little rumour

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/07/2018 17:20

Yabu, and I wish people would piss off with these stupid sweeping comments.

nancy75 · 08/07/2018 17:20

I know people link the flag to racists, but watch the videos of people celebrating after the match, men, women and kids of every colour celebrating together. An event like this brings people together, don’t be one of those people that want to pull us apart

Dljlr · 08/07/2018 17:21

Speaking as ex police staff I'd say that's a pretty daft thing to hope for. Violence and damage will occur regardless of outcome and for some women they're lives will be far far worse if they're being beaten for failure.
