To Not Want England To Win The World Cup.

I am not English I am Welsh and rarely support English teams, but I have got caught up in the excitement of the teams achievements and until yesterday thought it would be fabulous if they did actually win the World Cup.

Then I saw the damage caused across the country but so called fans so called celebrating the quarter final win and thought God forbid they win what the hell will happen across country when the yobs celebrate that!

I also think that 'young lady' photographed jumping on an ambulance along with her companions and the ones photographed on bus shelters should be named shamed and charged with criminal damage and the same goes for anyone else who does not know how to celebrated in decent law abiding way.

This is a very disappointing reaction to what should be a happy and proud celebration

I'm Irish living in Ireland and I along with a lot of Irish people would love to see England win. It's wrong to blame an entire country for the bad behaviour of a minority.

I really want them to win! The vast majority of people won't be arseholes and the few that are would be anyway.

I was in England for the game on Tuesday, seaside place as well, was a brilliant atmosphere! Loved all the flags! On houses, cars, pubs etc.

My default was always to support England as Wales had never been in a tournament during my lifetime until 2 years ago! I cried for Southgate in 1996 and keep getting all emosh seeing him now.

Sport and alcohol fuel bad behaviour in some. It'll happen whether we win or lose. It is disgusting but instead focus on all the decent people, families and kids who are enjoying the football peacefully, and on the team who have achieved something fantastic and deserve to feel the country behind them. The people who trashed the ambulance should be prosecuted and imprisoned. They should also be charged if they turn up to A & E. They are drunken thugs and criminals. They did not turn from law abiding model citizens into drunken thugs and criminals yesterday. Whats the betting they are getting lashed every Saturday night and starting fights all over the place? The football was an excuse to get drunk. Something else would have caused her to get drunk another day probably, and something else after that.

I'm not a football fan. My DH is, I've been to the odd match with him and I personally don't particularly like being around a lot of the people who are there (in terms of their language and behaviour). But even I can differentiate between football fans and thugs.

It's not like the people who caused trouble were sitting at home, sipping tea, with classical music in the background and then were suddenly hypnotised by Gary Lineker into raging around town and twatting ambulances, is it? There are a percentage of people who will use any excuse to cause trouble, if it isn't the football it'll be Donald Trump's visit or anything they can use.

I appreciate that alcohol does play a part and that mob mentality also exacerbates things, but I've been drunk many a time when I was younger and never once became violent or destructive.

And is it really so unbelievable that someone of Irish descent might find the English flag...off-putting? Are people really so ignorant of their own country's history that that would surprising for them?

Mostly we’re not ignorant, or uninformed about our country’s history, no - but it’s only football, so please don’t judge an entire nation on a tiny minority’s appalling behaviour. Every country has its share of yobs and louts, including Ireland and Wales

YABU for the reasons you've given because that type of behaviour will happen anyway. Not just because of football either, anti social behaviour is always going to happen.

As for finding a flag offensive, what a load of shit. It's the World Cup, people are going to be flying the flag of their country. I don't put one up myself and I'd be a bit at somebody who has an England flag up all year round but not when the bloody World Cup is on.

Gareth Southgate is an absolute gentleman, so you want to punish a man who has created the best young England side in years, worked tirelessly for over 30 years to achieve the highest job in his profession, hours of dedication and sarcrifice, because a some idiots in a country he's not in, and can't control, can't handle their drink and act like arses. You want to punish a team of young men who arent the primamadonna of older footballing generations who are being polite and respectful, open with the media, because some dickheads of their age dont put in the hours of dedication and hard work and think their entitled to get drunk and smash things up. Why should the thousends, neigh Millions, of people that go to football matches every week perfectly lawfully, with decent behaviour be deprived of this pride, again how is it their fault? It only takes the top 6 to have full stadiams and thats a million people, let alone the rest of the premier league, the championship, the lower leahue teams and the non league and the park players and teams.

Im irish, as a treat 23 years ago as a 14 year old i sat and then stood in Lansdown road while idiot thugs, ripped up the stadiam, even then i didnt blane england, the players or the majority of the fans. I blamed the dick head criminals. Its also not the flags fault or the majoritg of the people that are waving the flag out of genuine joy and pride that these racist dick heads use the flag to spread hate and justify their volence.

I was living in Barcelona when they won the Champions League and the streets were flooded with flares and fireworks, people smashing up lamp posts and climbing onto balconies, and broken glass. But it's definitely just "England fans" who do this, right?

They are building a new building called Shard Place right next to it.

There will be people like that in lots of countries. How narrow minded to paint everyone with the same brush because of the behaviour of a select few. I’m so sick of this anti Brit/ English mentality and some people seem to want to use any excuse they can to have a dig. If you despise this country so much then do the rest of us a favour and go move to another country.
