To Not Want England To Win The World Cup.

ProudAunty2nine · 08/07/2018 17:04

I am not English I am Welsh and rarely support English teams, but I have got caught up in the excitement of the teams achievements and until yesterday thought it would be fabulous if they did actually win the World Cup.

Then I saw the damage caused across the country but so called fans so called celebrating the quarter final win and thought God forbid they win what the hell will happen across country when the yobs celebrate that!

I also think that 'young lady' photographed jumping on an ambulance along with her companions and the ones photographed on bus shelters should be named shamed and charged with criminal damage and the same goes for anyone else who does not know how to celebrated in decent law abiding way.

This is a very disappointing reaction to what should be a happy and proud celebration

Personally, i am just pissed 9ff at constantly feeling like i have to apologise for being English on threads like this.
We have supported, with gusto, any of the 'home nations'(go on, I am bound to be wrong in calling us that), in any sporting endeavour.

I love St Patrick's day, despite the drunkenness that accompanies it, i adore Hogmanay, again, despite the alcohol intake.

But I am so fucked off with being despised by the Irish, Scots and Welsh. Every time, EVERY time we have the smallest thing to celebrate, enjoy, worry over or be disgusted by, it is guaranteed that we will be slated by others.

A friendly rivalry is brilliant, is to be encouraged, contributes to building a stronger relationship. The out and out venom for anything english is sickening.

nancy75 · 08/07/2018 18:26

jayjas1973 how much revenue does our internationally renowned football league bring in to the country?
Would you like to cancel all football due to policing costs? If we go down that route we could save loads of money, let’s cancel Notting Hill Carnival, Pride, all music festivals, the London marathon & anything else that needs the police to be in attendance

geekone · 08/07/2018 18:26

@Toooldtobearsed

I don’t hate you Flowers

WowLookAtYou · 08/07/2018 18:26

I see cranes in front of the Shard, which could well be for another building. But the glass panels of the Shard don't look complete/closed. Other recent pictures show them flush to the building.
And hardly any of the men in these pictures are sporting beards, which every other bloke you meet nowadays has. And I can't see any current England strips in the crowd. Where are the red ones?

nancy75 · 08/07/2018 18:27

Totally agree Toooldtobearsed

Vickymj · 08/07/2018 18:28

Load of bollocks OP. The Welsh, Irish & Scottish never want England to win anything, whereas I have always supported our UK countries, up until a while ago when I was so naive as to think our home countries supported us.

And as someone said the St Georges Cross being offensive, seriously??? I find you offensive you saddo.

For the most part these events unite the country and it’s only the few minority that ruin it. They are just idiots that I wouldn’t even waste my energy thinking about.

Grilledaubergines · 08/07/2018 18:30

I’m with you. It’s horrible, isn’t it. Every other country is ‘allowed’ their pride, but the English are mocked, ridiculed and have some real nastiness thrown our way.

So because of a minority of arseholes you condemn 3 whole nations? Aye ok then Hmm

FatBarry · 08/07/2018 18:31

I don't be like football and I'm not watching it, but of course I want England to win. I hate the dickheads that cause trouble but most people don't.

a few nobs don't make a nation.

knittingdad · 08/07/2018 18:31

I was working in the Shard in April. The red cranes in the background of one of the photos are erecting a new building next to the Shard.

People are so quick to create a conspiracy theory out of nothing.

Vickymj · 08/07/2018 18:33

Grilledaubergines I agree.

Sometimes I wonder it it’s jealousy? Because we are so much better at football than them (sorry but true)

Cutietips · 08/07/2018 18:34

I’m sure as an English person I loathe the thugs that behave appallingly while claiming to be patriotic possibly more than people of other nationalities. Who wants a minority of hooligans giving your country a bad name?

Personally I think it’s a good thing to reclaim the St George’s flag from racists and extreme nationalists. Why should they be able to hijack it?

I’ve always supported Scotland, Ireland and Wales in tournaments. Because I’m British as well as English.

I don’t think aspects of our history gives other people the right to be xenophobic or sometimes racist against us. Other nations have chequered pasts too but that doesn’t mean we can say whatever we like to people who were nothing to do with the decisions made then.

No, winning a football match wouldn’t change society’s ills but if it makes a number of people very happy for a while, why not support that?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 08/07/2018 18:35

Hahaha do you see the irony of this statement written on this thread doing the very same to The English. Pull. The. Other. One.

Itscominghomeyesitis · 08/07/2018 18:35

I’m extremely puzzled at the revelation that football is a thugs game for the poorly educated

Me too. I was watching it with my friends yesterday; teachers, Psychologists and Doctors.

It's obviously okay for us to drink lager and wear England tops (most of us have tattoos too) because we're not 'common'.

jasjas1973 · 08/07/2018 18:35

@nancy75
Complete and utter overreaction to what i stated.

Its the violence that goes with Footie, it cannot be denied (though you are doing a good job) and it does not accompany to anything like the same degree other sports or activities, Notting Hill or the Marathon do not occur each and every weekend at numerous locations throughout London.
the FA should bear these costs not the general public.

Sure get behind the England team and celebrate their success but dont be blind to the game!

SoddingUnicorns · 08/07/2018 18:36

I’m with you. It’s horrible, isn’t it. Every other country is ‘allowed’ their pride, but the English are mocked, ridiculed and have some real nastiness thrown our way

People see what they want to see.

Oh and I know Scotland are shite at football, it bothers me not one jot. Especially since our current team is managed by and comprised of tax dodgers and bigots, so I’m glad they’re getting nowhere fast.

SoddingUnicorns · 08/07/2018 18:37

Hahaha do you see the irony of this statement written on this thread doing the very same to The English. Pull. The. Other. One.

Point out exactly where I’ve been shitty about England? I think you’ll find I haven’t so wind your neck in, or at least read the part where I commented that the atmosphere in England where we’re on holiday is quite nice and I was enjoying people being happy and excited.

But don’t let that stop you making things up eh?

RoseWhiteTips · 08/07/2018 18:37

It is entirely possible to hate the English flag because of what it represents.

TheGreatCornholio · 08/07/2018 18:38

@aubergines I'll remember that the next time I'm accused of being a benefits scrounging, violent heroin addict leeching off the English. There are arseholes everywhere and English people are every bit as capable of being xenophobic as the rest of us.

RoseWhiteTips · 08/07/2018 18:39

Jealousy? 🤣

You want to try being in Cardiff when Wales play rugby - shocking behaviour. I've seen them pissing on people in the street, climbing on cars, smashing windows and groping women. Cardiff fans have also never been the best behaved in the world. So let's not pretend that it's just a small amount of England fans who have played up. I'll bet the dicks climbing on an ambulance and cars have never even been to an England game.

So much jealousy from other nations and anyone who doesn't like the George Cross flag can go and shove their head in an oven. If someone English came out with this tripe, they would no doubt be accused of racism.

I've watched England for 31 years and will be delighted if we win.

Cutietips · 08/07/2018 18:42

It’s entirely possible to hate the English flag for what it represents. It’s also entirely possible to think that the vast majority of people who fly it are not racists, are not nationalistic, and don’t want an empire. I refuse to let Farage and his ilk hijack it.

Ontheboardwalk · 08/07/2018 18:42

The cranes are in front of the Shard. The Shard is fully built, it’s not fake news.

In the pictures of the nob head in the waistcoat on the ambulance you can see exactly the same buildings in the background and the Shard fully built.

Must admit some of the Shard windows do look a bit dodgy on that side in the picture.
