To think thong bikini bottoms are obscene

These swimsuits seem popular all of a sudden, and women have no problem getting their bums out at swimming pools or public beaches.

I personally think they're too much and I don't want to see anyone's bum cheeks. I probably sound jealous or like an old lady, but even if I had the body of a supermodel I wouldn't wear it. I feel embarrassed with a small hint of cleavage!

They're also not very flattering, even on the most attractive bodies. I just think they look cheap and tacky and I wonder when it became acceptable to wear something so revealing in public. AIBU?

Yes YABU. HTH

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/05/2018 16:21

What other people put on their bodies is nothing to do with you. If you don’t like it, don’t look Confused

Hanng · 07/05/2018 16:23

I'm not saying it is to do with me, but I find it baffling this is accepted while some people complain about women breastfeeding in public.

KittyVonCatsworth · 07/05/2018 16:23

Wow, YABU. I love a cheeky arse in them! I’d love to wear one but my arse is not cheeky 😂

Thehogfather · 07/05/2018 16:23

How is it any different to cleavage, which lots of people show in everyday clothes too?

Ohyesiam · 07/05/2018 16:24

YesYABU. Not your arse, not your problem.
And I remember seeing women in thongs over 20 years ago on the beach, so it’s not that new.
I am an old lady btw, so I’m not sure what that makes youWink

Hanng · 07/05/2018 16:24

I think there's a big difference between bottoms and cleavage. If a man started walking around in a thong people wouldn't want to see it and he'd probably get arrested.

People who complain about breastfeeding are being U.

YABU about swimming costumes. Their bodies. Their choice. Doesn't really hurt you.

mimibunz · 07/05/2018 16:25

I agree, OP. It looks cheap and tacky, but they don’t care.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/05/2018 16:25

You are. You’ve started a thread to criticise what some women choose to wear.

Don’t do that. It makes you look a bit daft.

And people who criticise breastfeeding in public are equally stupid. But that’s not what you’re doing. You’re staring at people’s arses and bitching about it. It’s eirher jealousy or misogyny. Both ugly.

Nothisispatrick · 07/05/2018 16:26

Yabu and thong bikinis are hardly a new thing. Some men do wear them, not often in the U.K. granted, but I've seen lots of man butts in thongs on holiday

SquatDiddly · 07/05/2018 16:27

None of your business really. 'Obscene' is a bit strong don't you think? There are lots of obscene but a woman's bum, which is she's wearing a swimming costume you can pretty much see anyway?

I haven't worn thongs for years, but when I did they were really comfortable. I also think it's ridiculous to say they can't be flattering.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/05/2018 16:27

Many years ago I'd wear thong bikini bottoms and nothing else.

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 07/05/2018 16:27

It's literally just bum cheeks. Can't get worked up about it myself.

Roussette · 07/05/2018 16:28

You need to go to Copacabana Beach, Rio. They all wear them there and they look absolutely beautiful and peachy Grin
Wish I could

SquatDiddly · 07/05/2018 16:29

*There are lots of obscene things,

Blueemeraldagain · 07/05/2018 16:29

I think they are tacky and unflattering on men and women but I will defend anyone’s right to wear one.

Storm4star · 07/05/2018 16:29

I think i’m getting old because all of these things, like the constant selfies celebrities post where they’re nude or as good as, is all a bit too much. I’m not saying we should go back to Victorian times where you can’t show an ankle! But a lot of clothing seems to be getting skimpier and skimpier to the point where people might as well be naked! Yep, I guess i’m a bit of a prude 😂😂

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/05/2018 16:29

I agree OP. Its bleugh. I also agree that it’s none of our business though.

IpanemaChica · 07/05/2018 16:30

Crumbs. Never take a holiday to Brazil where they are pretty much compulsory -regardless of age Wink

JaceLancs · 07/05/2018 16:32

I wore thong bikini bottoms 40 years ago, along with the 2 triangles on a string bikini top
It’s not a new trend
I was a teenager then with a body I wish I had now!
Also went topless if sunbathing (not a done thing in UK though)

Cuppaoftea · 07/05/2018 16:34

YANBU OP.

Definitely shouldn't be allowed in swimming pools, everyone can surely purchase a cheap sporty, low cut round the legs cossie for there!

On the beach . . . I just think a bikini with fuller briefs looks nicer tbh. It's not about 'body shaming' at allConfused

SpeckledDot · 07/05/2018 16:36

Jealous much?

KirstenRaymonde · 07/05/2018 16:36

The people being annoyed about breastfeeding are also wrong. The whole concept of covering our bodies is socially constructed, there’s nothing wrong with bodies and the whole culture of shame around them is just unnecessary.

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2018 16:39

Meh, I can't say in real life it's something I think is often a particularly flattering look, I've only seen one woman wearing one who actually had the perfect back side (IMO) and carried it off totally, the rest I don't find it the most flattering thing to wear.

But in saying that, I don't think they are "obscene", it's just bum cheeks, and I don't find them cheap and tacky either, just I don't think it's the most flattering look for many of the wearers, but I couldn't really give a shit, they are on the beach, not walking down the aisle at Waitrose and other than a fleeting glance if they are in front of me, I can't say I really notice.
