To think thong bikini bottoms are obscene

These swimsuits seem popular all of a sudden, and women have no problem getting their bums out at swimming pools or public beaches.

I personally think they're too much and I don't want to see anyone's bum cheeks. I probably sound jealous or like an old lady, but even if I had the body of a supermodel I wouldn't wear it. I feel embarrassed with a small hint of cleavage!

They're also not very flattering, even on the most attractive bodies. I just think they look cheap and tacky and I wonder when it became acceptable to wear something so revealing in public. AIBU?

YABU. They look fine (just wish I had the body still to pull it off lol)

biscuitraider · 10/05/2018 22:13

There was a woman by the pool when we were on holiday last year. Constantly walking up and down and doing stretching exercises. It was obvious to everyone she was after attention and admiration. Irritating as hell. I think she took enjoyment at all the men ogling her while the wives silently fumed. Oh well, one day she'll be the one getting irritated.

Bluntness100 · 10/05/2018 22:38

Hmmm, do you mean your husband was ogling her and you irritated? But want to blame her and would prefer she had covered up or not moved about?

If your husband is ogling other women. He's the problem. Not the women.

specialsubject · 10/05/2018 22:42

why would that be irritating? attention seekers are mildly amusing, thats all.

biscuitraider · 10/05/2018 23:07

I wasn't with my husband, talk about jumping to conclusions....Bloody hell, no matter what you say on here, SOMEBODY will always have a problem with it. Yes she was bloody irritating. There's a woman in a thong, purposely walking up and down by the pool and doing stretching exercises, PURELY to get attention, of course it's bloody irritating, but any men watching her "have a problem"? Get real ffs. Since when did men stop looking at women. Confused

biscuitraider · 10/05/2018 23:13

specialsubject If it irritated me it irritated me, we all have different things that irritate us. You will have things that irritate you, and wouldn't me, so pointless thing t say.

Bluntness100 · 11/05/2018 07:01

Sorry biscuit, but no it's not irritating, unless she was doing something loud or whatever. Were you maybe envious of her? And that's why yiu were annoyed?

She doesn't seem to have being doing anything outrageous, as a pp said, generally attention seekers are simply raise an eye brow, amused shrug it off stuff.

To find it "bloody irritating" would indicate maybe you were jealous. Your comment all the wives were fuming and the men ogling is rather strange. I very much doubt all the wives were fuming. Why would they be?

Attractive women can walk about in a thong if they want. They can even stretch. Without other women getting angry at them for some reason.

specialsubject · 11/05/2018 09:54

tee-hee....

biscuitraider · 11/05/2018 09:56

Bluntness so only loud things can irritate? Wrong, loud music would be an annoyance not an irritation. It's generally the little things that irritate.Confused If i say i was irritated by it, it means i was irritated by it. Or is there some kind of "things we find irritating meter" that i don't know about and we aren't allowed to be irritated by certain things. Don't be ridiculous saying i was jealous of her.....and the other women were irritated too because they told me. Practically EVERYONE found this woman annoying. You weren't there, so you can't give your opinion.

Where did i say she was attractive?, Confused very far from it actually.
I was also irritated by a man constantly coming over offering to get me a drink, but wait, that means i'm jealous right.

Why the hell is the comment that the men were ogling and the wives fumed a strange comment. Ffs why wouldn't they, the woman was practically putting on an exhibition for them, what woman wants that.

You seem to be seriously naive about the behaviour of human beings and how things can irritate big or small. Stop looking for an argument and nit picking over what i've said and get in the real world. You sound a bit ridiculous tbh.

CadyHeron · 11/05/2018 10:03

Why is a woman attention seeking if she's stretching in a thong?! Wow. Agree with the previous poster, she's done nothing wrong there.
Why would other women be fuming? Surely you'd only fume if jealous. A more normal reaction would be to ignore or maybe inwardly roll your eyes in amusement Grin
So strange all this judging of what other women wear.
Let them wear what the hell they want without being accused of attention seeking.

Claire90ftm · 11/05/2018 11:03

YABU- I don't like it when women sunbathe topless but I just don't look. Do the same.

GorgonLondon · 11/05/2018 11:05

Why is a woman attention seeking if she's stretching in a thong?!

Hahahahahaha that's wonderful, I might have to frame it.

Branleuse · 11/05/2018 11:16

of course a woman in a fucking thong doing stretching exercises publically at a swimming pool in front of loads of people is doing it for attention. I'd definitely pull up a chair and watch. Im not sure id be her target audience though.

A man in a thong doing his exercises round a busy pool would also be an attention seeker.

Having the right to do it, doesnt mean its not attention seeking

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 11:21

No problem with it at all don't see what the issue is?

Bluntness100 · 11/05/2018 11:24

The point is what difference does it make if she was attention seeking. Why give a shit. How does it impact you to the point it irritates you?

And as for your statement of her being very unattractive, and you had a man offering to buy you a drink, would tell me, this is jealousy. Why tell us about the bloke hitting on you? And it's very rare for men to ogle deeply unattractive women.

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 11:27

Ahhh @bluntness100 the voice of reason in a sea of oddly strong views against butts....
I get the feeling some of these women are the ones who when your with them you dread leaving the room....
I have recently gotten a large full rib tattoo and it's getting extended down my leg...your dam skippy id be wearing a stringy thongy thingy to show it right off. Aint gonna hide my junk for fear of upsetting anyone Grin

GorgonLondon · 11/05/2018 11:30

@bluntness that's a different point. the post that I quoted said it was not attention seeking for a nearly naked person in a thong to stretch directly in front of lots of other people. Which is brilliant Grin

I love dipping into this thread, it's like a competition for who can come up with the statements furthest detached from reality.

Don't know about the other poster but personally I'm not jealous of men or women who parade around nearly naked, I go to the gym everyday and I'm surrounded by young dancers of both sexes who are incredibly flexible, strong and beautiful and I have nothing but admiration for them. Unfortunately a lot of people wearing thongs in public don't look like that...

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 11:31

@gorgon no they bloody don't Grin

Jozxyqk · 11/05/2018 11:31

I don't understand the appeal of thongs. G-strings, yes, quite comfortable, but surely a thong is just a thicker version, so there's more fabric wedged in your bum crack? (Aware I'm missing the point of the thread.)

Back on topic... I think I'd be too worried about less than full bum coverage on a beach. Because of issues with sand & the fabric intersecting with intimate areas that full coverage bikini bottom doesn't actually touch... ouch!

But I don't get judgy about other people wearing them. Can't be arsed. Grin

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 11:36

Actually far from being irritated or jealous if i saw a "nearly naked woman stretching everywhere (bestbquote ever)" id be inclined to watch. I am very heterosexual however the female form axtually is a beautiful thing. I often admire boobs. Not in a weird way tho Shock

butterfly56 · 11/05/2018 11:37

YANBU!
Horrible looking piece of clothing!
Better to go fully naked on a naturist beach rather have people trying to cut themselves in half with a thong! Confused

MyBreadIsEggy · 11/05/2018 11:40

Weren’t thong bikinis a big thing in the 80’s?!
There’s a picture of my mum in her early 20’s rocking a thong bikini on the beach in Spain in the early 1980’s and there appears to be a few other friends in very skimpy swimwear too!

biscuitraider · 11/05/2018 11:42

Hahaha, i'm laughing at the ones who don't know the difference between someone who is attention seeking and someone is not. Changing the context of my post by saying "how is a woman attention seeking by stretching in a thong" can so easily make my post sound ridiculous, (which was done here obviously). I'm amazed at the naivity of some of you tbh. It sounds like you're saying no woman would ever do that. Absolutely bonkers. Grin
A woman walks up and down by a pool in a thong so skimpy you can practically see everything, knowing she has an audience, and then deliberately does loads of bendy stretchy exercises in front of all the men.How is that attention seeking? Grin Grin Grin There's no women like that? I suppose you'd be quite happy for your men to go to lap dancing clubs, why not? let the women wear what they want eh. What hypocrisy. Is that really what the women's movement fought so hard for. Confused why do we think it's right that women want to define themselves to men in that way. Absolute bollocks, is that what the "sisterhood" is all about, how depressing.

Oh dear only on mumsnet....and for what it's worth if it was a man i'd be equally irritated.

But before i go, let's get one thing clear, nowhere have i stated that women shouldn't be allowed to wear what they want, the thread is actually about how the Op finds thongs obscene......I was talking about a particular woman who was wearing one for no other reason that to seek attention. I wasn't talking about thong wearers in general but a particular one who WAS attention seeking. Ffs there are women like that, grow up, we all thought the same. You'd have to be stupid not to see it. If you weren't there you don't know.

But trying to change the point i was making by saying i was implying that women who wear thongs were attention seeking is purposely twisting what i said to make me sound ridiculous and whoever said that to sound clever. You weren't, just rather stupid. Bye. Confused

HadronCollider · 11/05/2018 11:44

I'm with you all the way OP. Think it's crass and all 'look at me'.

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 11:48

Can i seriously ask why it "all look at me " if a woman dresses like this youn immediatly think it's for attention. I have 3 kids and a oh of 10 years. I would wear this and it certainly wouldn't be for the reason that I wanted attention as I'm happily practically married. What an odd thing to assume
