To think thong bikini bottoms are obscene

These swimsuits seem popular all of a sudden, and women have no problem getting their bums out at swimming pools or public beaches.

I personally think they're too much and I don't want to see anyone's bum cheeks. I probably sound jealous or like an old lady, but even if I had the body of a supermodel I wouldn't wear it. I feel embarrassed with a small hint of cleavage!

They're also not very flattering, even on the most attractive bodies. I just think they look cheap and tacky and I wonder when it became acceptable to wear something so revealing in public. AIBU?

OP posts:
thetriangleisarealinstrument · 07/05/2018 16:53

I think YABU.
I wouldnt really want to see someone wearing one whilst doing the shopping... but on a beach its fine.
My family live in France and women are often topless on the beach in their area and no one bats an eyelid. Also those bikini thongs have been around forever over there.

IRefuseToAgree · 07/05/2018 16:53

OP, did you see the thread To Think Men Put Ypur Nips Away

...have a guess how many posters posted. along the lines of ‘What other people put on their bodies is nothing to do with you’ and guess how many replied that it was a bit gross... 😂😂😂

SoupDragon · 07/05/2018 16:53

I was idly musing about the burkinis as it seemed odd to ban those and yet be happy with a thong clad butt.

ALongHardWinter · 07/05/2018 16:55

Hmm the previous poster who said they found thongs 'really comfortable'. Honestly?! I can't for the life of me imagine that having your knickers wedged up your arse is the slightest bit comfortable!

jaseyraex · 07/05/2018 16:55

I have seen many a wrinkly man bum in a thong on the beach and there have certainly been no arrests for it. I personally don't like thongs regardless and don't like them on either men or women but each to their own. If someone's got the confidence to have their arse on display then fair play to them!

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 07/05/2018 16:55

I do not agree with the Burkini ban at all. Think its ridiculous.

userofthiswebsite · 07/05/2018 16:55

Agree...
But I have the same opinion of them as a choice of underwear.
Also I don't think they're hygienic.

BakedBeans47 · 07/05/2018 16:56

I would be too worried about getting a sun burned bum!

crunchymint · 07/05/2018 16:56

I agree OP. Too much.

Elendon · 07/05/2018 16:56

Thong bikinis on a private beach on your own.

Anywhere else, unreasonable.

I do have two tales to tell regarding thong bikinis and they are not pretty. One of them was female. Both involved sperm.

TSSDNCOP · 07/05/2018 16:57

My auto correct defaulted to “thing” too Soup. Is auto-correct an offended MNer too do you think?

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 07/05/2018 16:57

alonghardwinter I genuinely find thongs comfortable. I would not wear a thong bikini to be fair and I dont wear fancy thongs just plain cotton ones under leggings. I wear them for work because I genuinely find them more comfortable under leggings because they dont wrinkle up like larger knickers do. If you actually buy the right size they do not wedge up your arse... why would you buy and wear thongs which are too small for you? They arent supposed to actually go inside your arse you know!!

TSSDNCOP · 07/05/2018 16:58

Frankly Elendon there are few stories involving sperm that are aprropriate for recounting outside the confines of the boudoir.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/05/2018 16:59

YANBU!

They are repulsive!

It's all well and fine other posters saying "If you don't like them, don't look" - that's not so easy to do. Things like that draw the eye like a traffic accident, and also - you can be just looking round, and there's someone's arse in your eyeline!

Personally, I think thongs are disgusting - they are uncomfortable and unhygienic and I can't understand why anyone would want to wear them - but what people wear that I don't have to look at it their business. However, if it's something I can't avoid seeing, then it becomes MY business, whether I want it to or not (and I really, really don't) and I object to it very strongly.

I think they are actually more vulgar than nudity.. Why do people feel the need to flaunt everything they've get anyway? FFS - some things. body parts etc are private - please keep them that way.

waterlego6064 · 07/05/2018 17:00

YANBU, they look ridiculous, IMO. And really unhygienic 🤮

Lethaldrizzle · 07/05/2018 17:01

They are gross

FreeMantle · 07/05/2018 17:03

Not a fan of the new style ones with the shaped top, as I don't think they look flattering. Bit too obvious. They don't look comfy but as if your arse has eaten them.
The old style ones that were just strings and a triangle at the top were better.

EdWinchester · 07/05/2018 17:04

Are thongs back in? I am so old.

They are a bit revolting, even on a small and peachy bum. And as many young women seen to want a huge sticky out arse now, a thong would be particularly horrendous.

I was once asked to leave somewhere because I was wearing a thong bikini. Neither dh nor I can remember where it was. It was 20ish years ago. Somewhere in the US, I think. they're easily offended by body parts there.

BlueRiviera · 07/05/2018 17:05

What I hate is the shorts with bum cheeks hanging out. Especially when you’re on an escalator and someone starts walking ahead.

I really didn’t need to see the sight of your entire bum and shorts so tight they were slicing your vagina in two.

Creambun2 · 07/05/2018 17:08

They are incredibly vulgar. Not worn by ABC1 for sure.

IfNot · 07/05/2018 17:08

I don't mind them.on the beach..in Brazil. I wouldn't wear one though. Too Sumo..
Mind you, I have been out all day in town and have seen that many young girls bottoms hanging out of too short shorts! It's quite shocking to see actual bum cheeks wobbling up the street in front of you. Ds had to restrain me because I was going to tell this one girl-I'm sure she had no idea quite how much she had hanging out and I felt duty bound to let her know!Shock
Am I just really behind the times? Are all your daughters wearing these and it's all fine? [gimmer in sensible trousers]

Laiste · 07/05/2018 17:08

When i've been abroad i've seen loads of men in thongs! Fat ones thin ones old ones young ones ... perma tan, british blue white, nice brown or burned to a frazzle ... they're all there. After the first couple of hours you no longer even look once let alone twice. Same goes for the women. All shapes. All sizes. All on display. No.one.gives.a.shit. It's nice. It's called relaxing and let live.

It's rare (and actually stands out) to see any 'big' modest one or two piece costumes on the beach or round the pool IME.

IfNot · 07/05/2018 17:09

X post Blue!

MorningsEleven · 07/05/2018 17:09

I'm not bothered but I would draw the line at Rod Stewart or that Stringfellows chap (so wanted to call him Peter Sutcliffe) jiggling around in a mankini.

Roussette · 07/05/2018 17:10

What tosh creambun ! Are you landed gentry?!
