To think thong bikini bottoms are obscene

These swimsuits seem popular all of a sudden, and women have no problem getting their bums out at swimming pools or public beaches.

I personally think they're too much and I don't want to see anyone's bum cheeks. I probably sound jealous or like an old lady, but even if I had the body of a supermodel I wouldn't wear it. I feel embarrassed with a small hint of cleavage!

They're also not very flattering, even on the most attractive bodies. I just think they look cheap and tacky and I wonder when it became acceptable to wear something so revealing in public. AIBU?

I'm not quite getting the leap from wearing a thong on the beach and attention seeking to being happy for your partner to go to a lap dancing bar,

Someone might need to kindly explain that one to me.

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 11:51

I swear that woman has a screw loose

Branleuse · 11/05/2018 12:01

wearing a thong on a beach to sunbathe and get a better tan - not attention seeking.
Wearing a thong and doing your stretching in front of loads of guys at a pool - attention seeking. Its a blatantly sexualised display

Not the same as in a strip club, granted, in fact its probably more intrusive in some ways, because noone has actually asked to be part of the audience, so its a bit inappropriate, but I guess when youre in public, you just have to put up with other people being dicks sometimes

FrangipaniBlue · 11/05/2018 12:04

Well I thought I'd seen everything on MN, but pearl clutching at things and declaring that they are "obscene" and "unhygienic" ??!!

FML.

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 12:05

I'm I so old that I've missed new things in sex??? If my oh came in the bedroom stretching, can't say id be turned on....
Maybe I should try it for him later ......would jumping jacks also work??

Branleuse · 11/05/2018 12:13

you dont realise that non sexual acts, can be sexualised, by the clothes or attitude of the person doing them? And that women are aware of this, and sometimes do it because it gives them a thrill of feeling sexually powerful to do it in front of men, but with the protection of course of having the mens wives around.

Riding a stationary bike is not sexual, but if you did it like this, in a thong, its a display etc etc

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 12:21

Please don't mistake my light hearted humour for naivety .......
Also.... who ever in the history of man rode a bike like that?

Branleuse · 11/05/2018 12:24

haha, i guess it doesnt always come across in writing.

I dont know who rides a bike like that apart from Ariana, but its pretty mesmerising

MissReginaPhilange · 11/05/2018 12:27

She's a foxy lady! Although can't really see how wearing a thong in the gym would benefit anyone. I wear lycra leggings and my work out butt chews them up.... id never see a thong again if I wore one Grin

GorgonLondon · 11/05/2018 12:30

Dunno what you're talking about, I always do my Spin class in full make up and a thong, and my weights in platform shoes, a silver bikini and heart-shaped sunglasses.

Attention-seeking, moi??

Sabina21 · 11/05/2018 12:37

I dunno it's up to an individual what to wear...my ass is too big for a thong 🤣.. It would be like an eclipse at the poolside 🌞🌞

AsAProfessionalFekko · 11/05/2018 14:11

My ass, my rules?

megafemme · 12/05/2018 21:18

I wear a tiny red leather thong to work and on the tube. My body, my right. If you object you are just jealous and you are guilty of a literal hate crime against my arseplaining.

SharronNeedles · 12/05/2018 21:42

How are arse cheeks any different to the tops of legs? Other than being more rounded?

SharronNeedles · 12/05/2018 21:46

I really don't get how people can get so upset about seeing something on someone else that they see every day on themselves? It's just a body part! It's still there whether it's covered or exposed.
Now when people are showing any flesh in December in the UK I'm usually amazed how they stand the cold! And I'm from Newcastle!

megafemme · 12/05/2018 22:11

I agree sharron. I Reserve the right to go bare breasted on the tube or.in the office. Don't complain because that makes you a misogynist. My body, my right. If you don't want my tits in your face then you're a woman hating weirdo.

SharronNeedles · 13/05/2018 12:53

Actually wouldn't bother me. I'm all for nudity!!

LindaRuth · 03/06/2018 10:10

Oh, Bullshit. Every time a woman expresses an opinion about female attire being vulgar, obscene, or just too revealing, she gets accused of being jealous. Really shallow thinking. Did it ever occur to you that that same woman may have been wearing ordinary summer shorts and a halter top in as young as fifth grade and as soon as she went out in public wise hollered at and harassed for decades? Many many of us have and for that reason we don’t appreciate women exposing their bodies in public And creating a culture that continues to encourage men to think that our butt cheeks and breasts exist for their edification. We are sick of it. And just because women “choose “to barely be dressed that doesn’t mean that it is without its ramifications. So take your stupid jealousy comment and be a jerk and go to the beach and bare your butt as much as you want. And, gosh, I sure hope it makes you feel “empowered”. I don’t care if you’re at the beach; at least be aware of the fact that you are on display and men – not totally in correctly – assume that you were on display for their benefit.

Your ass, your rules? Show them off to your hearts content. And if you’re ever grabbed and squeezed I sure as hell don’t want to see #me too On Facebook. You seem to think you can do whatever you want without any fall out whatsoever. Good luck with that.
