To be absolutely terrified about these Brexit scenario predictions...

I think its so important people see this study based on the governments own analysis. Also reflects similar studies (one carried out by a free market US think tank I remember).

"After looking at all four options available to the prime minister, the study established that in the long-term, the amount of money available for spending on public services would fall. Under the so-called Norway option, there would be £262m less a week, under the Canada model it would be £877m, while under a no deal it would be £1.25bn.

This would mean 22% less funding available for the NHS if there was a bespoke deal, and 9%, 31% and 44% less under each of the other options."

Perhaps they could give divert some of the billions in handouts they currently give to the bankers and builders and give it to the people they are meant to represent?

araiwa · 19/04/2018 08:28

Well duh

But at least we will have our blue passports

ClaudiaWankleman · 19/04/2018 08:29

Billions in handouts to bankers and builders? What are you on about?

BumbleNova · 19/04/2018 08:30

Sorry but NO SHIT SHERLOCK. I still can't believe we have to go through with this shit show. The rage. People will be poorer, it's just a fact.

Glumglowworm · 19/04/2018 08:31

But our passports will be blue. So that’s the important thing.

freegazelle · 19/04/2018 08:34

Not just poorer - we're looking at the end of the social welfare state (as well as collapse in industry and price rises). I can see us effectively having the same living standards as a middle income country.

I've always been a remainer, but tbh even I'm shocked by these stats where, even under Norway option, we'd still be 10% less worse off.

MissionItsPossible · 19/04/2018 08:36

Oh, The Guardian. Now I understand why you’re worried OP.

lljkk · 19/04/2018 08:38

The report and estimates come from Kings College London, which is pretty conservative in estimates, ime!!

We'll TAKE BACK CONTROL, though. Which has no price. (sigh)

freegazelle · 19/04/2018 08:39

Well the Express reported a previous study by the Rand cooperation saying similar stuff

Haha mission of course... Not the actual studies conducted by our government, but the guardian. That's alright then
Hmm

bluebeau · 19/04/2018 08:50

Another BREXIT thread. Cosmic.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/04/2018 08:53

still blue passports (made in Europe) so - win win!

To be absolutely terrified about these Brexit scenario predictions...
VickieCherry · 19/04/2018 08:55

No welfare state would suit Tory policy perfectly, so it's no surprise they're keen.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/04/2018 08:55

Ghosty that's ace 😂

KC225 · 19/04/2018 08:58

The Guardian is a has been rag that makes people who use the phrase Daily Fail feel superior.

Pikehau · 19/04/2018 09:00

@ghostyslovesheets love that- just shared it.

But yes YANBU to be scared. It will result in us being poorer but why listen to EXPERTS what would they know. Maybe I’ll go to a barber to get my tooth removed.... that’ll teach those expert dentists!

Logic has flown out he window and blue passports and unicorns flown in.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/04/2018 09:07

it's brilliant isn't it? Grin

80sMum · 19/04/2018 09:16

The Conservative Party is, and always has been, against people being reliant on welfare, so I would expect that this is all part of the master plan, which will include - by necessity - the privatisation of the health services, at least in part.

I truly believe that the vast majority of people who voted Leave had no sense of what they were ultimately voting for. They were hoodwinked, conned, deceived (call it what you will) into thinking that Brexit would benefit them personally in some way. It won't. Quite the opposite, in fact.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 19/04/2018 09:41

NHS is doomed and on it's way out anyway. Brexit or not Brexit.

80sMum · 19/04/2018 09:45

Sadly, I think you're probably right, NotSuch. I think it's reaching the critical point where something has got to give.

frankchickens · 19/04/2018 09:49

YANBU please try and be as terrified as possible for as long as you can - it's certainly for the best.

UserInfinityplus1 · 19/04/2018 09:59

Before someone else gets there I'll bite. There is a separate message board for this you know!

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 10:09

I dont think the thread should be moved

Aibu is full of threads that 'belong' somewhere else

freegazelle · 19/04/2018 10:11

No i didn't know.

I didn't know such an important issue has become a taboo subject. It's not funny. It's not a rolling-eyebrows topic. You don't have to post if the end of the NHS bores you.

idobelieveinfairies86 · 19/04/2018 10:14

More worried about the political relationships (or lack thereof) at this moment in time if I'm honest.

BUT, the NHS is failing anyway (and was in trouble before the brexit vote).

It's high time the government started prioritising the bills and stop with the hanouts!
I am all for giving a helping hand but not to the detriment of people you are responsible.

Imagine what the authorities would say/do if we (joe public) went around giving money to other people before making sure our children were taken care of first.

Enforce those fines on people who tax evade and make them higher, make prisoners work for the costs they cause like electric/heating/food, stop sending millions to other countries when every1 knows it doesn't reach the people it's intended for, stop letting government funded orginasations spend stupid amounts of money on stupid shit like £20 pens when a 20p biro is perfectly good and for fuck sake make the minimum wage a living wage right NOW not 20p increases every year for x amount of years because every1 is getting further and further in debt and by the time it's a living wage by today's standards the cost of living will have gone up and then there's all that interest on debts that need to be paid!
