To be absolutely terrified about these Brexit scenario predictions...

I think its so important people see this study based on the governments own analysis. Also reflects similar studies (one carried out by a free market US think tank I remember).

"After looking at all four options available to the prime minister, the study established that in the long-term, the amount of money available for spending on public services would fall. Under the so-called Norway option, there would be £262m less a week, under the Canada model it would be £877m, while under a no deal it would be £1.25bn.

This would mean 22% less funding available for the NHS if there was a bespoke deal, and 9%, 31% and 44% less under each of the other options."

Giving this a quick bump so more people can be terrified.

MissionItsPossible · 19/04/2018 12:26

@Justanotherlurker

And the no doubt talk of "the far right" in britain ignore the fact the real far right is far higher and is on the rise a lot more within EU countries.

Are they the same sort of people like those that express concern the NHS will disappear and then announce their intentions to move to a European country where you have to pay for healthcare, perchance? (Just realised OP might think this is a dig at them given the theme of their thread, it's not, just using an example from what I've seen online).

mygoditsfullofstars · 19/04/2018 12:29

Billions in handouts to bankers and builders? What are you on about?

The Government has given the builders billions via "Help to Buy" which has pushed up house prices and basically all gone into massive profits for their builder mates.

They've also given a load of money to the banks via Funding for Lending, Term Lending Scheme, keeping interest rates low, bailing out the banks etc.

They can find money from the money tree when it suits them - billions of taxpayer money given to their rich backers whilst all the plebs have to suffer austerity.

Dancingleopard · 19/04/2018 12:45

I’m surprised people are still hand wringing over Brexit.

If we wasn’t going to get toasted over Brexit the government were going to toast us. Either option we are getting screwed. No one on this board has any input in how this country is run.

Both sides are corrupt. Both sides are bleeding every penny out of us.

I think people just need to get on with their life now and deal with what happens when it happens instead of acting like chicken little.

frankchickens · 19/04/2018 14:23

Another bump so people who want to be terrified can be.

freegazelle · 19/04/2018 15:05

Nice to see you're all so calm as we're on track to losing at least one fifth of funding for our NHS.

Well I'm in my mid twenties with a one year old. I care about my prime years and my kid's future. I care about getting cancer treatment should I need it.

Glad to see none of you are bothered.

UserInfinityplus1 · 19/04/2018 15:28

So move to a European country while you still can then! Oh that's right, other European countries don't have the NHS. So really we can conclude the Brexit has nothing to do with funding for the NHS.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 15:55

Im bothered!!

I think the NHS is broken and i am not sure it's fixable, making further cuts is not going to help it in the slightest

frankchickens · 19/04/2018 17:09

Well I admit I was wrong - I really thought people would be queuing up to agree they were absolutely terrified but it seems not.

Mightymucks · 19/04/2018 17:49

These aren’t neutral reports. They were created by the think tank Global Futures which is anti-Brexit.

These reports aren’t objective and were produced with the aim of campaigning to stop Brexit, they’re no more objective than the bloody bus...

Justanotherlurker · 19/04/2018 17:51

These aren’t neutral reports.

Damnit, I was waiting for a "stop reading the daily mail" quote before I brought that up.

mostdays · 19/04/2018 17:54

I feel really sad about the whole thing.

frankchickens · 19/04/2018 18:04

I feel really sad about the whole thing.

That's better, but still not "absolutely terrified"

Shannaratiger · 19/04/2018 18:05

If we charged people for the NHS treatment that they haven't paid for that would help. Would you walk into a restaurant, eat the food and not pay?
Should also close all the tax loop holes so the rich pay what they owe.
Rethink how much of our money we give away to other country's.
Take control of our borders and think of the consequences of how many people we allow in e.g. where they're going to live, education and medical.

freegazelle · 19/04/2018 18:10

@user There maybe be different healthcare systems but most are subsidised by the state, and there is high spending on healthcare in Sweden, France, Germany, Norway ect

If we slash our spending by (at least) a fifth, this is going to wreck our NHS/ healthcare system/ whatever you want to call it, just as it would in France.

And obviously its not just the NHS which will suffer - I naively thought that's something that most could agree on.

But anyway, you miss the point spectacularly. We don't want to stay in the EU to be like such and such EU country (although we do want the basic rights shared by EU citizens). We want to stay in the EU because its good for the country and for us.

We don't want to live the lifestyle of a middle-income country, with a passport that gives us the same travel rights as an Argentinian one.

I honestly don't think there has been another instance of such extreme self sabotage in history. The rest of the world thinks we are mad, apart from Russia who is loving it. It's just incredible, it really is.

It's comparable to Trump America in so many ways. You can't even argue when people dispute the basic concept of a fact.

Extremely disturbing times.

freegazelle · 19/04/2018 18:12

Especially considering the City and a huge chunk of businesses are about to leave, I'm intrigued that people think we can recover a billion a week by taxing the rich more.

free you need to go to the GP with your anxiety problems. It’s not right to worrying your going to get cancer. Just try and live every day as it comes

freegazelle · 19/04/2018 18:18

I am assuming I will get seriously ill at some point as the vast majority of people do. I want a functioning welfare state.

OP posts:
Dancingleopard · 19/04/2018 18:21

free no they don’t. Many many people get to a ripe old age as fit as a fiddle.

Your either catastrophising or have anxiety which you should go and seek help for

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 18:22

free

The ironic thing is if you tried to get help here with actual anxiety it would take 6 weeks for a GP appointment and 12 weeks to have TELEPHONE counselling

frankchickens · 19/04/2018 18:23

I am assuming I will get seriously ill at some point as the vast majority of people do

Eh? Is this actually true? Can I see the figures? This is news to me. I suppose it depends on your definition of seriously but I'd still like to see your working out.

Echo2 · 19/04/2018 18:29

Oh no, another Brexit thread full of hysterical people planning their demise.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 18:31

Have you read the thread echo

Its certainly not full of hysterical people

Most seem to be telling the OP she is being unreasonable

And you cant count franks posts...although hysterical its not the sane type

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 18:31

Sorry should have put a smiley face at least

mostdays · 19/04/2018 18:37

That's better, but still not "absolutely terrified"

Meh. I could probably work up a bit of terror if I subjected myself to one of the very pro- Brexit forums/ facebook groups/ comments pages, but for now I'll just stick with being sad that this is the way the country is going and this shitty atmosphere is what's been created by it.
