Why does your teen hate you today?

Mine's 13...apparently I'm terrible parent because I offered her the meal she really loved up until today...it was a steak sandwich on crusty bread with a side salad.

Last week this was "amazing" and "my favourite"

Tonight I told her I was making it again and she said OH NO I HATE THAT!!!!

Hmm

I said...well you could have some stir fried noodles?

No. She wanted a certain dish from our local Chinese takeaway.

I said no.

DH said yes...and offered her the cash to go and buy it.

That's evil too though. We should apparently go for her in the car as it's AGES AWAY! TOO FAR!

It's a 5 minute walk.

She's now sitting in her room, hating us and refusing anything.

I'm ignoring.

Nothing whatsoever [smug]

They are older teens and won’t be awake for about 3 hours.

Tainbri · 08/04/2018 09:46

I could have written that! Apart from I wouldn't have been half as nice as you guys with the alternative options. Flowers

AjasLipstick · 08/04/2018 09:56

Soup I should have said we're in Australia and it's 6.30pm here.

Tain well she's just said "I don't like them but I'll have a steak sandwich please:"

Then looked at me like this Angry

Don’t burst my bubble. Right now I am the Perfect Parent.

YouTheCat · 08/04/2018 09:58

After all the histrionics, I'd tell her to make it herself.

Bingcankissmyass · 08/04/2018 10:05

My 14 ds is now sat in his bedroom, nostrils flaring, steam coming out of his ears, face redder than a lobster, muttering what can only be described as sacrificial chanting. ..all because I asked him to open his curtains 🤔😂

mogloveseggs · 08/04/2018 10:07

Mines still asleep but no doubt will hate me from the moment she opens her eyes today Hmm

Rachbones1992 · 08/04/2018 10:24

I have my brother living with us at the moment (he’s 14), yesterday I called up the stairs at 6pm loudly about 4/5 times and got no response. We live in a 4 bedroom house not a mansion so he wasn’t in the East Wing unable to hear me. I then went upstairs and asked if he was coming down for dinner. He said he would come down in a minute ‘if he decided he was hungry’ 🙄. Anyway at 10pm he emerges and tells me it’s my fault he missed dinner as he fell asleep and I didn’t come up to get him again! I wasn’t expecting him to lie down so how on earth could I have known he had fallen asleep?! Love him to bits and I am happy to have him here with us as long as needed but my god he drives me mad!

That1950sMum · 08/04/2018 10:26

Mine's asleep. Probably dreaming about hating me. Yesterday though she hated me for suggesting she have a shower and get dressed and then she hated me again later because I told her to get undressed and go to bed!

qwertyuiopy · 08/04/2018 10:27

You said no DH said yes?

How does that work then?

Bechetdiagnosed · 08/04/2018 10:32

Three meal options.....Hmm

jmh740 · 08/04/2018 10:33

My dd is 11 so not quite a teen but I can tell she's going to be a nightmare. Yesterday I took dd and ds to the fair gave them £10 each enough for 4/5 rides each dd hated and glared at me all the time we were there because I wouldn't let her have a gold fish from hook a duck

CollyWombles · 08/04/2018 10:34

My newly turned 13yo is lovely. I keep looking at her warily, waiting for her to change and hate me. She spends her time mostly playing the Sims 4 and drawing things. She thinks I'm a cool mum for now. For now.

DottyDotAgain · 08/04/2018 10:34

Mine's 14 tomorrow and currently hates me because I told him he couldn't go on the playstation until he emptied the glass/plastic recycling bin Hmm.

He also hates me because we're going to dp's parents for lunch at 12pm, so that's only given him 2 hours on the playstation this morning. We are TERRIBLE PARENTS.

pilates · 08/04/2018 10:38

My nearly 14 yo dislikes me because I switched the internet off last night at 10.45 🙄 He has been on it all week and driving me mad 😡

Scabetty · 08/04/2018 10:39

Mine are older 15 and 17. One is still in bed and one is up for his maths tutor but I did annoy him when I asked him to fetch a loo roll on his way down as he was ‘busy’ holding his folder Confused

Tiddler7 · 08/04/2018 10:41

Oh thank you for all that! I was pretty sure my DS13 is th moodiest (is it even a word..?) thing EVER! Ask him anything and it's too much (unless it's to have ice cream or anything else packed with sugar), everyone us against him, and everyone yells at him. After asking 100 times yes, I do yell. A lot recently.

OriginalGeordie · 08/04/2018 10:58

Oldest is 13, she hates me at the moment because she frittered away £40 on crap last week and expected me to give her more to go into town with her friend yesterday. I didn’t, she went with £4. Got the death stare all last night and she’s just up and it would appear I’m getting it today too. Giving a cheery smile back every time. I give no fucks.

IdaDown · 08/04/2018 11:04

”I give no fucks”

Thank you Original - my new chant.

Numbkinnuts · 08/04/2018 11:10

You mean your teenagers actually communicate with you all ?

Wink
Emilizz34 · 08/04/2018 11:13

My now 20 year old dd was the perfect teen . Never a moments trouble from her .
Her sister made up for this though . Street angel /house devil. Other adults adore her and wish their teen was like her .
At home she Huffs and puffs when asked to do stuff and doesn’t under stand the meaning of suffering in silence😂
However she’s mostly lovely

cantstopfuckingeating · 08/04/2018 11:58

Ah fuck I wish I hadn't read this thread.
I'm currently blissfully ignorant of how awful teenagers can be. I'm the perfect parent of toddlers. I'm fucked in another 8 years.
Tbf I probably deserve it, I was AWFUL to my parents as a teen. Cringe when I think about it

Braveanddifferent · 08/04/2018 12:03

Because I suggested that having wasted a week of the Easter holidays doing nothing perhaps she should start revising. Outrageous suggestion.

Ohforfoxsakereturns · 08/04/2018 12:03

DD set her stall out early by telling me not to speak to her before 3pm as she needs to come round.
Expecting oldest teen to crack the shits when he reappears from his dads and I remind him of his exam revision.
Middle teen away until tomorrow but will come back having had no sleep for a week and EVERYTHING I do will annoy him.
#blessed

Rachie1973 · 08/04/2018 12:05

Today my teen daughter loves me and I'm the best mum in the world because I got her prom dress, bag and shoes today.

Tomorrow though.... lol
