Discrimination.

AIBU To ask that the BBC stops discriminating against men and boys by not allowing them to have a Men's Hour on radio 4.
Women have a woman's hour to discuss and air issues for women, but men do not.
If we want equality shouldn't we ask the BBC to give men the same, after all what harm would it do to us if men had the same arena to discuss there issues.
Equality means the same rights for all.

Oh so she is doing something useful rather than complaining on here

Thats great

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/02/2018 09:56

To be fair 'complaining on here' pretty much sums up mumsnet Grin

SwarmOfCats · 08/02/2018 10:01

Oh my God ‘Vicky’, just go start a petition or something if this is such a big concern for you. You can post the link to it on this thread and then, for the love of all that’s holy, stop bleating about it.

pastabest · 08/02/2018 10:15

I don't think anyone dies from prostrate cancer.

An hourly radio show isn't a female only gathering. Everyone is welcome to listen and learn.

PositivelyPERF · 08/02/2018 10:19

I’m all for equality. I’m more than happy to sponsor men that do walks for Male cancer awareness, campaign to open male shelters, sign the petition that a man brings to me in support of men’s hour. Now if you wouldn’t mind pointing me in the direction of the big list of Male campaigners?

I don't think anyone dies from prostrate cancer True. They do however die from PROSTATE cancer. You would think if the op is going to pontificate about male cancer, he would have the sense and decency to spell it correctly. 😒

DriggleDraggle 😆 I think he’d be happier if women were prostrate at his feet.

EBearhug · 08/02/2018 13:04

My father was supine when he died of prostate cancer.

WH, which I have been a listener to since I was in the womb, though don't listen daily on account of having to go to work and stuff - it has done articles on topics like testicular cancer, so it's not as discriminatory as all that.

Plus everything upthread.

Vicky1990 · 08/02/2018 13:53

EBearhug.I am sorry to hear that, you will perhaps understand why I am concerned enough to think men should have a place get there voice on the radio at a dedicated time each day so they could be listening.
There are lots of issues that do not get talked about enough for men as there are for women. And the point is there is no reason why this could not happen.

RadioGaGoo · 08/02/2018 13:57

Lol. You are such a basement troll OP. Get out into the sunshine and meet a girl.

JacquesHammer · 08/02/2018 14:08

but mainly that Men and Boys do not have a platform to discuss and air subjects that affect them in the same way as women and Girls do, this in effect is discrimination on the ground of a persons sex, something that should not be happening in 2018.

Every fucking platform is a space for men to air their views. Do you really not understand that?

SwarmOfCats · 08/02/2018 14:16

Can you provide a link to the petition you’ve set up, Vicky?

Have you contacted the BBC to ask them to rectify this horrifying situation?

Do you have an army of men who are pleading with you to please help them with this terrible lack of equality?

Or, if none of the above apply...are you just trying to wind people up, maybe?

Recallclock · 08/02/2018 15:36

Vicky you seem to be missing the point enormously that you wittering on aimlessly on here is pointless.
Do I agree that men should have a program if they want it? Absolutely
But most men don't want it. They have had full day men's specific channels discussing all kinds of men's issues and they were cancelled as they weren't watched.

Again on all the major morning news channels false accusations of rape, signs of prostate cancer and men's cancer overtaking women's in deaths has been raised time and time again over the last few weeks.

People ARE covering these themes, Tv is men heavy, the only reason the all male gathering was recently ripped to pieces was because of the sexual assault or abuse of women.
There are loads of all male gatherings.

And still instead of actually being proactive and getting a petition to get it reinstated and approaching channel four you are on here droning on and on about how tough the poor little men have it.

Jeez do you have any idea of the injustice women in the UK and world face everyday?

Vicky1990 · 08/02/2018 17:49

I wonder if most woman want woman's hour, but at least they have the choice. I am talking about the radio, not TV, you can listen to the radio any where.
I have never heard or seen any programme on the TV or Radio that is produced, staffed, and aimed at only one sex in particular except woman's hour. I have just seen in an item in a newspaper from last year with the headline. Women have talked for years about the longing for a baby. Now would be dads are sharing THEIR pain too.
I think men should have the space where we all could listen to talk about things that affect them, we would all benefit from hearing that and NOT assume we know which is sadly the case now.

Loose instead of lose

Inappropriate use of apostrophes (husband's)
Failure to understand feminism or equality.

It's a full house!

HarveyKietelRabbit · 08/02/2018 18:45

In what space do men NOT have people listening to them?

OP you're worried about not having a mens hour, your reaction to 'grid girls' being stopped elicited a response about whether male strippers will be banned, you hate feminists, your only response to the current threat that trans people being allowed to work in womens refuges was what might be happening in mens refuges.

You never seem to post about issues relating to women.

I've never met a woman quite like you.

Though with your past post about 'men going out to work to put food on the table shouldn't have to make their own sandwiches' makes you sound a bit like a woman. From the 1950s.

Scrowy · 08/02/2018 19:16

You know what's really shocking OP

There is at least 10 minutes a day on radio 4 dedicated to farmers (and those scrounging twats are already heavily subsidised by the government to produce food cheaply for us Wink) and that doesn't even include the farming soap The Archers.

Utter travesty, why do they get a programme to themselves when nearly all the other professions don't. Every profession should get its 10 minutes a day. Perhaps throw that in with your petition for the menz at the same time. Between that and your men's hour there's not going to be much time left for other programming that people actually want to listen to, but who cares as long as it's FAIR.

trumptown · 08/02/2018 19:19

Vicky is a man. An illiterate one at that.

GerdaLovesLili · 08/02/2018 19:22

No, Victor sounds like a man. A man who isn't getting his own way.

HarveyKietelRabbit · 08/02/2018 19:29

Yes I know that. But 'troll hunters' on MN are often considered worse than trolls so I was choosing my words carefully.

RadioGaGoo · 08/02/2018 19:32

LOL. This is one of those guys that probably says he hates women, but the reason he hates them is because they won't date him and that's the one thing he desperately wants. They won't date him for very good reasons I imagine. Hanging around on Mumsnet being one of them Grin

PositivelyPERF · 08/02/2018 19:36

I'm now convinced you are being goady, you aren't taking anything on board, you aren't listening to anyone and I can't see what good you are doing to solve the issue other than keep continuing to tell a load of women that we are discriminative because we have one hour our of 24.

If women didn't want women's hour viewing would have been low and it would have been removed.
