AIBU To ask that the BBC stops discriminating against men and boys by not allowing them to have a Men's Hour on radio 4.
Women have a woman's hour to discuss and air issues for women, but men do not.
If we want equality shouldn't we ask the BBC to give men the same, after all what harm would it do to us if men had the same arena to discuss there issues.
Equality means the same rights for all.

I love the graphic on the first page. We really need to raise the general level of thinking about this whole topic though. Sad to say there are still lots of people like Vicky, who can only think about equal in a sharing sweets toddler kind of way.

HarveyKietelRabbit · 04/02/2018 10:12

You banging on about this again?

Did you not get a feel for the kind of responses last time?

How very odd.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 04/02/2018 10:31

How do you know they asked for it and it was refused?

Vicky1990 · 05/02/2018 20:20

Men's hour was asked to be kept.
By putting it on Radio 5 was to ensure its failure, would you put woman's hour there!.
The BBC says that half of the listeners to woman's hour Broadcast at 10 am each day are men, so that is where the audience is and that is where men hour should be, men and women all listening at the same time to a shared time slot, get rid of the 15 minute story and you get half an hour for women and half an hour for men,
Why was it put on radio 5 when radio 4 is the main speech station for the BBC.

One of the items in the news over the last few days is the number of men dying of Prostate cancer, that could be your father, husband or son, given a voice at the same time each day on men's hour then men WOULD be listening and would be informed about this.

On todays woman's hour it was mentioned that some women got the right to vote in 1918, what was not mentioned was that SOME men also got the vote then as well as they hadn't had it before either, makes you wander why this was not mentioned.

In this day and age equality for all is a mark of progress, give men that right as well, it could save a male member of your family's life.

Why do you want to take time away from women's hour to give to a new Men's Hour? There is plenty of air time available, why the insistence on cutting into to the 4% of weekly time that is specifically aimed at women? Why not take from the other 96%?

As I said before, radio 5 did it's 9am phone in on prostate cancer. Plenty of male callers and really important information.

I would imagine that the audience of Radio 5 is skewed towards men, hence putting Men's Hour on that channel. I'm sure they also hoped to draw in more male listeners as well, given how popular and necessary a male focussed programme would have been.

NotAnotherEmma · 05/02/2018 20:37

"tiredbutFESTIVE

Off you go and ask them then"

🙄🤣

fourmileswide · 05/02/2018 20:43

OK. I've sorted it. You're going to get your Men's Hour, and it's going to be on primetime BBC1 - hooray!!!!

(waves to Dave Gorman)

victimfocus.wordpress.com/2018/01/03/stop-asking-me-what-about-men/

I'll just leave this here for you OP although I'm sure you won't even read it let alone understand it.

PositivelyPERF · 05/02/2018 21:32

Oh go fuck youself victor. My husband died of prostate cancer, so don’t you dare fucking lecture us. He spent the last two years raising money for men’s cancer research, because he didn’t want other men and families to go through what we were going through. What have you done for men, other than come on here to whine about something that men didn’t even support. That’s why they got rid of it. The men that listen to women’s hour do so because, unlike you, they actually like females and want to learn what is important to them.

PositivelyPERF · 05/02/2018 21:35

fourmiles thank you for that. I needed a chuckle after that bullshit from OP.

AngelsSins · 05/02/2018 21:38

I agree Vic, I hate all this one way equality. Where's straight pride day? Where's the positive discrimination for white men? Where's the white music awards? If disabled people are equal why should they get special parking? Oh and I've heard some of them even get FREE cars, can you believe it? And dogs get way more shelf space in pet shops and that's not fair to cats....

And who should sort all this? Well I guess the people who bang on about equality all the time, those damn feminists....Hmm

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 05/02/2018 21:40

Im not sure womans half an hour is quite as catchy

laudanum · 06/02/2018 04:21

Shoo

TheDowagerCuntess · 06/02/2018 04:44

Vicky - men are so lucky to have a WO-man like you fighting their corner. 💪

What would they do without you?

Recallclock · 06/02/2018 06:50

So in an entire 24 hours a day rather than looking at other times where viewers would tune in you want 30 minutes of the only hour to the day dedicated to women.
Talk about male privilege

You can't accept that women and men are listening at the time because they are interested rather than that being the only possible interested timeslot.

You can't accept that women's hour might only cover issues relating to women in the 60 minutes a day we get from 24 hour.

Do you also demand that the sports programs appropriately address women's sport for half an hour?

You sound like a petulant toddler. I want it I want it now!

This is what pisses me off about certain men at the moment. They don't want equality, they don't want to have what we have they just want us not to have it.

As my teen would say what da fuck.

SilenceIsBroken · 06/02/2018 06:55

So you're asking a forum mostly populated by women to allow the national broadcaster to create a radio slot for men?

Do we really HAVE to do all the heavy lifting here? Can't men do that themselves, if they really want a men's hour? Do women really have to advocate for men's hour too along with wifework, shouldering the mental load, bulk of childcare while holding down lesser paid jobs ?

MiniAlphaBravo · 06/02/2018 07:18

Vicky, men did have the right to vote before 1918, the vote was extended to working men. Prior to 1918 NO women could vote so it is a bigger story that some women could vote for the first time ever, rather than some EXTRA men. Only NZ had given women the vote previously so it was a pretty huge thing back then, even though it was only women over 30. Oh and it's wonder, not wander. Surely there are bigger issues for you to spend time on than this? How about the gender pay gap? Men seem to be managing ok there, despite their lack of 'mans hour'.

picklemepopcorn · 06/02/2018 07:42

I imagine the majority of decision makers in the BBC are male- as in most arenas. As a result men's issues are generally well covered, what with men having the power in the situation. Women's hour redresses the balance.

Let's come back to this question when the BBC has closed its pay gap, and there are as many women in senior positions as there are men.

Laudanum love that clip, thanks!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 06/02/2018 07:58

do you also demand that the sports programs appropriately address women's sport for half an hour?

By the same logic womens sports should take up half of the entire sports output of the bbc

I assume thats what Vicky would prefer and she is even now campaigning for it

I stand right behind her in her endeavors to equalise the sporting world

Vicky1990 · 06/02/2018 09:32

It would be a good idea to read my original message and not get to dilute the point with other issues.
I get the impression that not many of the replys are from people who actually listen to woman's hour.
To exclude an advantage from a person due to their gender, colour, race or opinion is clearly wrong.
Today is a celebration of the start of the removal of one of those wrongs caused by ignorance, I am suggesting the removal of another.

martellandginger · 06/02/2018 09:41

The BBC are not 'not allowing' men to have their own men's hour. There have been many type shows over the past 3 decades and lack of listeners mean the shows get cut.

Many shows on the BBC talk of topics you have mentioned and its always from the perspective of both sexes. Women's hour may be dated but the listener figures show its a very popular show.

Men are very good at looking after themselves, if they want something they usually get it. Let them fight for their own rights.

ALLIS0N · 06/02/2018 09:42

Vicky - what are you personally doing about prostate cancer ? How much money have you raised ? How much of your time do you give to the relevant charities ?

None I guess . So you don’t really care at all do you ?

You are just using a horrible disease to back up your infantile attempt to bully us into caring about your personal obsession.

picklemepopcorn · 06/02/2018 10:08

When there is no need for woman's hour, people will stop listening and the producers will find something else.

SwarmOfCats · 06/02/2018 10:56

Discrimination.
Vicky1990 · 06/02/2018 11:20

Allison.
Good point, what am I doing.
What I am doing is trying to raise the issue that men do not have a focal point on the radio as women do to discuss issues, prostrate cancer been one.
