Discrimination.

AIBU To ask that the BBC stops discriminating against men and boys by not allowing them to have a Men's Hour on radio 4.
Women have a woman's hour to discuss and air issues for women, but men do not.
If we want equality shouldn't we ask the BBC to give men the same, after all what harm would it do to us if men had the same arena to discuss there issues.
Equality means the same rights for all.

hardly surprising then that it failed as its main possible audience would be listening to radio 4.

So what you're saying is even men would prefer to listen to women's hour rather than men's hour?

Doctordid · 02/02/2018 21:55

'Vicky1990

The point of this posting was to see what the feeling was about discrimination towards men and boys on the BBC.'

How ironic is this post when in the last couple of weeks women are currently walking away from the BBC because a corporation run mostly by men has been discriminating against them based on their sex by paying them significantly less pay for doing the same job...

Op if you want a men's hour which is absolutely fine write to them and ask them!

The BBC is run by MEN, if there was proof men wanted a men's hour then the MEN who run the BBC would do it.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 02/02/2018 22:02

belinda

Or people dont know there is a radio 4?

So it seems we only want equility for us but not for our husband's, fathers, son's, brothers.
I have not seen one reason yet why men do not have the same as women on the radio, women would loose nothing, but gain a lot for there families.
This is the only program I know of that is provided for one gender, surely this can only be discrimination.
Also no representation for women of colour, 100% white, why.

OP posts:
AssassinatedBeauty · 03/02/2018 17:07

How can you tell women's colour over the radio?

Are you going to respond to the information given to you about Men's Hour that has been on Radio 5 in the past? And the information about the men's issues that Radio 5 often cover?

Plus, what of the other 96% of the air time on Radio 4? Do you think none of that time is ever used to cover men's issues?

Men and boys are not being discriminated against. Husbands, fathers, brothers, sons and any other men you know are not being discriminated against by women because they are men.

newyearsameme80 · 03/02/2018 17:10

Is it called a White Women’s Hour? Confused
Seriously OP are you having these lines fed to you from somewhere? Because it is the biggest non issue. Unlike actually issues of discrimination, harassment and inequality faced daily by women.

SusanBunch · 03/02/2018 17:10

Wow, you are one special kind of stupid. Do you think that true equality is having equal radio programmes? Really?

You have not answered why you created an identical thread to this one in November and are asking the same question yet again? Did the 90+ responses you got that time (telling you you were an idiot) not sink in properly?

Your post doesn’t seem to come from a woman.
I’m a woman and mother of boy/girl twins, I work in a role that includes lots of child protection issues mostly due to domestic violence and it’s overwhelming man abusing his wife/partner.
If you look at statistics women are most likely to be killed by their husband or partner.
Sexual abuse more likely to happen to girls, boys abused to lesser degree but they are still more likely to be abused by a man that lives with their mother.
As a genuine woman of colour racism and sexism is part of my life but the safety of my children comes first!

Ghanagirl · 03/02/2018 17:29

Sorry OP’s post was supposed to be bold but I’m tired...

Yes this!

HisBetterHalf · 03/02/2018 17:39

What about a gender neutral hour as well lol

SwarmOfCats · 03/02/2018 17:55

Oh, ‘Vicky’. It’s good that you’re trying to learn more about issues you’re clearly so ignorant about...but maybe starting with google would be better?

You’re coming across as pretty damned thick and I can’t imagine anyone is expecting an intelligent conversation, purely because you have no idea what you’re talking about

BIWI · 03/02/2018 18:25

Goodness, Vicky1990, your poor spelling and grammar is making my teeth itch.

You really are ignorant, aren't you?

donquixotedelamancha · 03/02/2018 18:30

So it seems we only want equility for us but not for our husband's, fathers, son's, brothers.

What you are forgetting, OP is that while the BBC may not be addressing men's interests as much as you want, there is lots of provision in the commercial sector.

Why there are several whole TV channels dedicated to the issues that really interest men, and I don't see the equivalent for women. Admittedly they only start broadcasting quite late at night, and frankly the 'discussion' is a bit repetitive. You could almost watch them with the sound off. Still, can't have everything.

Apologies. Just realised I'm mansplaining to you 'vicky'. I'm sure you are already familiar with these programs. I'll bet you even phone in for a spirited mass debate with the presenter from the comfort of your mum's basement.

Oh its that time of the month again, when VIcky1990 starts bleating about Woman's Hour.

Time to reset the clock to see if he can get past 60 days next time.

I think you perhaps need a history lesson and a reminder why women primarily fight for women's rights and not men.

Switch over to channel 4 right now you'll catch a pretty good film about the suffragettes - be quick it started at 9pm.

Goldenbug · 03/02/2018 21:19

Because we don't really want or need it. There are men's issues that exist: Men's grooming, prostate cancer, men's identity etc, but not much when compared with women's issues. You could do a Man's Hour once every 2 or 3 months I suppose, but there's just not enough serious stuff to fill an hour a week.

PiffIeandWiffle · 03/02/2018 21:20

It would not harm anyone for men and boys to have equality

I agree, and once women are raised up to the same level as men and boys there will be equality.

Unless you think we'd be better off downgrading the treatment & favouritism regarding males so that they're down at the same level as women???

Now back under your bridge....
