AIBU To ask that the BBC stops discriminating against men and boys by not allowing them to have a Men's Hour on radio 4.
Women have a woman's hour to discuss and air issues for women, but men do not.
If we want equality shouldn't we ask the BBC to give men the same, after all what harm would it do to us if men had the same arena to discuss there issues.
Equality means the same rights for all.

Have you heard of google? It's quite popular and will tell you why there isn't one.

GerdaLovesLili · 01/02/2018 12:55

Why aren't trolls even bothering to make a concerted effort these days?

Too stupid?

Justanothernameonthepage · 01/02/2018 13:15

Won't someone think of all those poor men who are forced at gunpoint to listen to woman's hour (although I know of lots of blokes who actually happily listen to it). I mean, is an issue actually important if it's not being explained by a man on the radio?

And while we're at it, can we also stop football being broadcast...after all, I don't like it so sky sports is obviously discriminating against me.

Vicky1990 · 01/02/2018 23:43

Seems to me from the reply's that equality does not start on mums net.

OP posts:
MyBrilliantDisguise · 01/02/2018 23:44

Vicky, if men want this, surely it's up to them to fight for it, just as it was up to women?

AssassinatedBeauty · 02/02/2018 06:04

It seems to me that you've not read any of the replies to your thread, probably because you don't actually want to have a discussion.

Men's issues get discussed a lot on Radio 5. They had a Men's Hour, it didn't last. Perhaps you should consider berating men for not listening and supporting that show enough?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 02/02/2018 08:10

i dont think vicky is reading any of the answers either

Many thanks for the comments, I am watching and will message after work.

The 9am "Your Call" phone in on Radio 5 today was about prostate cancer, after the news story today about it being the 2nd or 3rd (can't remember which) largest cancer deaths total.

MrsKateR · 02/02/2018 10:24

is this thread a joke? I'm new to mumsnet - didnt realise it included comedy/satire.

Mens hour - Vicky1990...you're a hoot.

SwarmOfCats · 02/02/2018 10:26

It seems there are a lot of posters on this site who do not want there Fathers, husbands or sons to have the same as there mothers and daughters, I think they must be Feminist who do not like men.

You’re brave for posting about feminism when you don’t know what it is. Bless you, OP, you tried. You didn’t try very hard, but you tried.

'Vicky1990

If the person in charge of the BBC is a man as I think then why is it women who are discriminating against men by having a Women's Hour?
Women got women's hour presumably because someone pitched it. It is an hour out of 24 in which something is aimed at women. There is plenty of room for men who control most of television and radio production anyway.

I don't understand what your crisis is about.
Because most people have posted that there WAS a men's hour and it wasn't listened to by men.

Most people have also posted that having a men's hour is fine and that people who want it should pitch for it and maybe they will make it.

People have pointed out that bad women are talked about on Women's Hour.

A huge amount of programming for the BBC is controlled by men.
There are documentaries which cover evil/abusive and violent women.

If you want (with the look of it) a radio hour to talk about how bad women are for an hour I'm sure there are plenty of people who would join with you on pirate radio.

There are men's TV shows and men's health magazine and men's podcasts

On the other hand I can't take my child to science/engineering type Government funded workshops near me because they are all 'lads and Dads' and all the girls sessions are fluffy bunny rainbow making.

FancyNewBeesly · 02/02/2018 10:54

Wouldn't I like to hear about men's issues as well?

Hahahahahaahahahahhahaaaaaaaa!

That's called "the rest of the media". I hear about men's issues constantly, thanks.

SusanBunch · 02/02/2018 10:55

I think Vicky just comes across as someone who is very thick, so maybe we should just give her a break. It can't be easy being that dumb.

AboutAGallonofDietCoke · 02/02/2018 14:36

You had a Men's Hour, you didn't look after it or play with it and now you want all the Mummies to get you another one?

Battleax I think I love you a bit Grin

Gilead · 02/02/2018 14:45

Domestic abuse, coercion, divorce, children, work, health, retirement, discrimination.
Shall we look at percentages "Vicky"?

EggsonHeads · 02/02/2018 14:46

Would men actually listen to men's hour?

UpstartCrow · 02/02/2018 14:48

I think many would complain it inferred the other 23 hours were Women's Hour and then implode with indignation.

Andrewofgg · 02/02/2018 15:00

Would men actually listen to men's hour?

Not this one, it sounds tedious.

I prefer People's Hours which is most of Radio Four.

Vicky1990 · 02/02/2018 20:24

The point of this posting was to see what the feeling was about discrimination towards men and boys on the BBC.
This is done in many ways to numerous to mention, but mainly that Men and Boys do not have a platform to discuss and air subjects that affect them in the same way as women and Girls do, this in effect is discrimination on the ground of a persons sex, something that should not be happening in 2018.
Woman's hour has been running for Seventy years on the BBC, and now broadcast on radio 4, this being the premier speech station for the BBC, broadcast six days a week for an hour day, plus late night woman's hour.
The listening figures for radio 4 are 11.55 million a week, and about half the number listening daily to woman's hour are men, my husband included.
I would like to hear subjects discussed by men that are of interest and concern to them in the same way as men are obviously interested in listening women's issues, this would benefit every one.

Men's hour was put on radio 5 that has a listening audience of 5.5 million a week and loosing numbers each day, hardly surprising then that it failed as its main possible audience would be listening to radio 4.
Men's issues are NOT covered any where else in the same way as women's are, so as equality is constantly talked about on woman's hour can the BBC now give Men an hour on Radio 4.

It would not harm anyone for men and boys to have equality.

OP posts:
AssassinatedBeauty · 02/02/2018 20:33

It's just not true that men and boys don't have the opportunity to discuss issues that relate to them.

You begrudge women having 7 hours out of 168 a week. That's just about 4% of the time allocated to women's issues. The rest of the schedule is open to use for men's issues. 96% of the schedule time is available.

No need to take any of the 4% away in order to address men's issues. Just use some of the 96%. If Radio 4 aren't spending enough time on men's issues then contact them to complain. Start a petition to get it discussed in parliament. Etc etc.

Sparklesocks · 02/02/2018 20:35

Sorry ‘vicky’ But I don’t believe you are a woman at all...
