To think that La La land is awful

Just that. We've put it on Netflix.
I wasn't desperate to see It, but you know, heard good things.
40 mins in and..well, I'm posting about how shit I think it is in here.
Do I need to give it more of a chance, or put Friends on?

Yabu! Give it more of a chance.

TheQueenOfWands · 27/01/2018 21:26

If you have Netflix watch Haters Back Off.

PinkFlamingo888 · 27/01/2018 21:26

I watched it 2 days ago. It’s so boring and doesn’t get better. Switch it off and go watch The Greatest Showman at the cinema instead

Wineandpyjamas · 27/01/2018 21:26

I’m weird - I LOVE musicals but I hated La La Land. I still think I must have missed something as literally everyone I’ve spoken to who’s seen it has loved it. So I would say leave it and don’t waste the rest of your time but I’m very prepared to be in the minority!

Putyourdamnshoeson · 27/01/2018 21:27

Pink lol cinema not an option, not tonight anyway.

It's just sooo DULL!

I remember being initially disappointed with the movie when I was watching it at the cinema. But the ending of the movie really made it for me.

I don't want to give any spoilers, but it was a lot deeper than I imagined it would be and it's one of those films that has really stuck with me and made me assess the worth of each relationship I have had.

MrsMaxwell · 27/01/2018 21:27

Turned off after 5 mins.

endofthelinefinally · 27/01/2018 21:27

Massively over hyped and over rated.
It is all special effects anyway.
If you know anything about dance you can tell.

margaritasbythesea · 27/01/2018 21:28

I am absolutely with you.

I was so looking forward to it as I love a musical but I couldn´t believe my eyes. No one can sing, no one can dance, the script was weak. All but the first sung in weedy little, ´´I am not really singing a song,´´ voices as if the characters are thinking outloud but actually because they don´t have any voice.

It´s one of theose films that I honestly have no idea why it was so popular.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 27/01/2018 21:28

Yes Wine ! Singing in the rain is my favourite film!
But this...

Putyourdamnshoeson · 27/01/2018 21:29

Phew. At least I'm not alone.

It's like Lost in Translation all over again. I'm seeing a naked Emperor.

HopeClearwater · 27/01/2018 21:30

Watch it as a film with musical interludes, not as a musical. I agree with the pp about the ending. Gives it a depth not apparent from the beginning.

I think i got to where you are where she gets a call back or something. What utter tripe.

ElspethTascioni · 27/01/2018 21:33

Nope, i’m with you, and I don’t think the final
15 mins can make up for the fact that EVRYTHING that preceded it was tedious. My 11 son commented that the current TUI adverts are better directed than the opening scene to LALA Land, and I think he has a point.

And Emma Stone can neither sing nor dance well enough for the part, no idea why she was cast.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 27/01/2018 21:35

Oh FFS they're in the planetarium.

OP posts:
TheDuckSaysMoo · 27/01/2018 21:37

Yabvu! Lalaland and Lost in Translation are both wonderful. The fact that they are not amazing singers / dancers adds to it for me. Just two young people trying to make it and finding love in the midst of it all.

JustDanceAddict · 27/01/2018 21:37

I THought it was pretty lame! Saw it in cinema and the cinematography was amazing but the plot(!) was dreadful.

UserX · 27/01/2018 21:37

Yes totally agree, the whole thing was just insipid. The ending was lovely though, it was as if someone else had written and directed it!

TheDuckSaysMoo · 27/01/2018 21:38

Hmm - the planetarium scene is not the best.

JustDanceAddict · 27/01/2018 21:38

The last 10 mins is the best bit but it doesn’t make up
For the rest of it being shite.

HolyShet · 27/01/2018 21:40

Yanbu so utterly dreary, no light and shade in the performances, not great singing or dancing, only one good song.

Izzy24 · 27/01/2018 21:41

Thought it was awful and only finished it because I was watching at a friend’s.

But by the end I’d really got into it and now want to watch it again from the beginning to see if I’d like it better now .

eggofmantumbi · 27/01/2018 21:41

OP you managed more than me. I couldn't get past the first song/dance. Give me a singin' in the rain any day!

PrincessoftheSea · 27/01/2018 21:41

Its very boring
