Just that. We've put it on Netflix.
I wasn't desperate to see It, but you know, heard good things.
40 mins in and..well, I'm posting about how shit I think it is in here.
Do I need to give it more of a chance, or put Friends on?

@ChristmasTablecloth I think it's more to show that the poster doesn't dislike it because it's a musical (as some people just dislike all musicals).

taskmaster · 30/01/2018 14:28

It is all special effects anyway. If you know anything about dance you can tell

You mean they didn't actually float off into the air? Well no shit sherlock. Hmm

i don't get this whining. You didn't like a film, well so what? It doesn't mean that other people are wrong to like it, it doesn;t mean it is objectively bad or didn't deserve the praise or awards. I can't understand the arrogance of people who instead of saying "I didn't like that film" they say "that film is terrible and the people who say they liked it are liars or idiots".

Mominatrix has it exactly right, it's The Umbrella's of Cherbourg only with substandard songs and lacklustre performances.

It only did well at the awards etc because it's about the struggle of some pretty, plucky young things working hard to break into the great dream factory and Hollywood loves sucking it's own dick.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 30/01/2018 15:40

I’m not generally a fan of musicals but I like Hollywood as a setting.

It was just...dull. I don’t remember the planetarium scene at all Confused. In fact, I think I only really remember the bit with the yellow dress because I keep seeing a gif of it!

Oh, I tell a lie. I liked the bit when she’s auditioning and she sings that song in her flat.

Clandestino · 30/01/2018 15:44

I like musicals but never even got tempted to watch this one. Don't know why.
That said, I am really OK about watching it. Sometimes, maybe.
I have one pet hate when it comes to movies though - Titanic. The most horribly and absolutely boring and tedious movie I've ever seen. All I was ever felt sad about was that Leo didn't slip off that thing he was holding on to earlier. Seriously. The iceberg was too late, could have save the humanity some precious time.

MakeItStopNeville · 30/01/2018 15:45

I love it and have watched it about 10 billion times. You weirdos! Grin

AntArcticFox · 30/01/2018 18:20

I remember disliking Madonna as Eva Peron so much that I wished she'd just croak quickly.

LouiseBrooks · 30/01/2018 20:32

I ended up just feeling a bit dirty at the end of it

Ok, this definitely wins the award for the most ridiculous comment on this thread.

Love it or hate it, It's only a film ffs.

LouiseBrooks · 30/01/2018 20:34

MakeitstopNeville

You summed it up beautifully.

Lellikelly26 · 30/01/2018 20:35

I didn’t like it either. It was ok but didn’t have a great story and the female lead was a bit of a weird character

Emilybrontescorsett · 30/01/2018 20:36

I agree with you op and I love a good musical.

morningtoncrescent62 · 30/01/2018 20:39

I'm a confirmed lover of musicals and I thought it was dire. I was all excited about seeing it in the cinema, and to be fair I enjoyed the opening routine, but it was all downhill from there - no memorable songs and the story went nowhere. If I'd stayed awake I would have walked out early, but you know, warm cinema and boring film... zzzz....

I agree with the pp who said switch off the telly and go and watch Teh Greatest Showman instead.

lottiegarbanzo · 31/01/2018 13:31

I wouldn't class LLL as a musical. If that's what's people were expecting, no wonder you were disappointed.

It's a sung film (partly), supposedly an homage to Umbrellas of Cherbourg, which is a, very dated, stylised delight and is sung all the way through.

I still thought it was mediocre but expecting it to be 'a musical' comparable to full on musicals, isn't really fair.

Mogginthemog · 31/01/2018 14:05

YANBU. It’s absolute dross on a stick
