To think that La La land is awful

Just that. We've put it on Netflix.
I wasn't desperate to see It, but you know, heard good things.
40 mins in and..well, I'm posting about how shit I think it is in here.
Do I need to give it more of a chance, or put Friends on?

It was 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Absolutely dreadful. Awful ending. And what annoyed me most - who was the main character? The Emma Stone one right? But who got top billing in the credits? Yep, Ryan Gosling. Casual sexism, well done Hollywood.

IJoinedJustToPostThis · 27/01/2018 23:19

I watched the whole thing in the cinema. Ryan Gosling's character was actively obnoxious. YANBU.

awankstainonhumanity · 27/01/2018 23:19

YANBU. Utter drivel. and I usually like Emma stone and Ryan gosling.

FroodGloriousFrood · 27/01/2018 23:32

Was it really only two hours? It felt like four. But I suppose I did have a nap in the middle.

malificent7 · 27/01/2018 23:33

I cried at the end of LaLa land. The ending was not what i expected.

YouTheCat · 27/01/2018 23:40

I think I would have cried all the way through. Grin

theliousmonk · 27/01/2018 23:41

Yes me too malificient - it was bloody cruel! Grin

tripletrouble · 27/01/2018 23:44

I absolutely loved every minute of it - and Ryan Gosling is absolutely gorgeous! But each to his or her own...

PersonAtHome · 27/01/2018 23:46

YANBU. I had to turn it off it was so dreadful.

LouiseBrooks · 27/01/2018 23:48

YABU, it's bloody marvellous.

HeadBasher2018 · 27/01/2018 23:48

Really boring.

I was similarly baffled at Mama Mia, but I adore Les Mis (stage and movie).

Lalliella · 27/01/2018 23:51

Ooh no Head Mamma MIA is fab, loads of fun. But you’re right though about Les Mis, it is the best!

Lalliella · 27/01/2018 23:52

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels made a great musical too.

fourmileswide · 28/01/2018 00:11

The singing and dancing of the two leads is supposed to look like that. It's meant to look like two ordinary people finding themselves in a fantasy musical. Ordinary people can't dance like Fred and Ginger.

MinnieMousse · 28/01/2018 00:17

I could have written this exactly a week ago! Put it on Netflix last Saturday night, so rubbish that I turned off after 20 minutes. And I love musicals, even Mamma Mia.

Shimshiminysheroo · 28/01/2018 00:23

I thought it was awful.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/01/2018 00:48

It was tedious

Hollywood slapping itself on the back

And both main characters had no chemistry between them and are dull

LA is such a diverse city they could have made the film far more interesting

KERALA1 · 28/01/2018 00:58

Adored it. Cried at the he end. Loved the greatest showman too.

KERALA1 · 28/01/2018 00:59

Agree with others you should see it at the cinema though. Sweeps you along.

PurpleTango · 28/01/2018 01:57

YANBU. As an avid MT fan this production is as boring as fuck! Its little wonder that most people removed themselves from the cinema screening within the first hour. It is diabolical! What a complete waste of money! Angry

LouiseBrooks · 29/01/2018 20:26

I can understand it not being to everyone's taste but am dumbfounded at what appears to be the sheer hatred for what is, at worst, a bit of whimsy. Why are people so extreme? Is it a reaction to its massive success perhaps?

I think it will, quite rightly, become regarded in a few years as a classic.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 29/01/2018 21:20

louise I don't think it's that. I've not turned off many films in my time. This really, really grated on me and I really wanted to love it.
I think that whilst it's success does, now baffle me, I don't think I took against it because of it.
More to the point, I don't think it was whimsical enough! Whimsy I would be no doubt enjoyed. It was slow and sad or at least a bit miserable for much of the time.

YouTheCat · 29/01/2018 21:29

The reason I can't stand it is because it pisses on a genre I love from a great height.

writingsonthewall · 29/01/2018 21:31

Yanbu. I thought it was absolutely shite

KindDogsTail · 29/01/2018 21:42
