Just that. We've put it on Netflix.
I wasn't desperate to see It, but you know, heard good things.
40 mins in and..well, I'm posting about how shit I think it is in here.
Do I need to give it more of a chance, or put Friends on?

I think having a love of jazz definitely help it along tbf. Grin

Cowardlycustard2 · 27/01/2018 22:13

Saw at cinema total rubbish my ears were hurting from the din. Frozen was much better Grin

Putyourdamnshoeson · 27/01/2018 22:14

HmmShock

AntArcticFox · 27/01/2018 22:14

I like jazz so maybe I should give the full thing a go.

Anyone remember Round Midnight? I loved that.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 27/01/2018 22:14

Hmm. I love some musicals (both cinema and west end) and have disliked others.

Lalaland - as soon as they sang the first note, I was just like "NOPE" and switched it off. Can't explain it, it was just a no from me.

Maybe it will be the worst mistake I have ever made and I will never see the film that would change my life.

Or maybe life's too short to watch something where you know yourself well enough to know you're just wasting 2hrs. If you see what I mean.

I watched Escape from Alcatraz (again) instead.

KatyMac · 27/01/2018 22:15

Oh Moana was spectacular - some of those songs!

Rumbledore · 27/01/2018 22:15

Turned up after 10 minutes. Thought i’d Try again after a few days. Still crap.

BackforGood · 27/01/2018 22:16

You gave it a lot better chance than me.
Someone lent me the DVD a while ago.
I love a good musical.
I'm fairly easy to please.
It had been nominated for lots of awards.
I switched it off after 1/2 an hour. thought it was dire.

whataboutbob · 27/01/2018 22:16

The male lead ( can't remember his name) is unengaging and their relationship had no sexual tension that I could detect.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 27/01/2018 22:16

I've been, standing, staring at the water,
As long as I can remember...

Got a bad write up from work colleagues who saw it at the cinema, but Netflix is free so might watch now!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 27/01/2018 22:16

I also hated Mamma Mia. And Cats.

I like: Grease, Dirty Dancing, Rock of Ages. Sound of Music.

Wicked was ok.

expatinscotland · 27/01/2018 22:18

It was boring as all fuck.

scrabbler3 · 27/01/2018 22:18

I thought it was ok. I liked the ending. I wouldn't watch it again though.

KatyMac · 27/01/2018 22:19

You see @Putyourdamnshoeson & Shiny is spectacular & You're Welcome will become a cultural sentiment!

Flowerfae · 27/01/2018 22:20

I agree,,, I went to see it with my mum at the cinema and I really didn't like it, I like musicals too. I thought maybe it was just that I didn't get it. I did like one of the songs though 'city of stars' I think its called.

Putyourdamnshoeson · 27/01/2018 22:20

I adore Shiny!

OtterInDisgrace · 27/01/2018 22:22

Hated it from the opening number. I stuck with it because I’d heard such good things but I thought it was self-indulgent, self-congratulatory and self-all the bad things that are prefixed with ‘self’.

And I loved whiplash by the same writer/director. Dunno what happened with this bag o shite

TellerTuesday4EVA · 27/01/2018 22:22

YANBU do not give it a chance as others have said.

I stuck with it until the bitter end - mainly because I'd chosen the movie & DH was chuntering about how crap it was so I kept saying it would get better. IT DID NOT!!

An evening of my life I'll never get back!!

bruffin · 27/01/2018 22:22

I loved it but i had just got back from california and the film was in all the places i went to in LA.

Flowerfae · 27/01/2018 22:22

My grandad tried to educate me with Jazz when I was younger.. he'd put it on during dinner when I was there. I hate Jazz... so I pretty much already didn't like it before I even started watching it :D

TheHolidayArmadillo · 27/01/2018 22:23

I watched it because I thought I should - I didn't get it and I like musicals.

BoffinMum · 27/01/2018 22:25

That bit about the auditions hit home. It put into words my own experiences 25 years ago. I actually had a little cry.

ginghamstarfish · 27/01/2018 22:26

Yes, awful and I love musicals ( films that is). Totally forgettable songs, characters and music.
