To think MMHQ are more trigger happy these days?

Not a TAAT as such - more about moderation in general.

Is it just me or are MN much quicker to delete threads these days?

There have been a few examples recently where the thread had taken an odd turn - but which could have been solved by deletions or posdibly even a stern but the whole thread has been pulled, despite the thread containing useful advice.

Is this a new policy? Or are there a couple of new mods who are more likely to pull threads?

AIBU to think this is happening and it's a shame if so?

I think it depends on who reports it and who has made inappropriate comments.

I've noticed that more 'well known' users have threads edited rather than deleted too.

Definitely an new approach to moderation.

The tread with the man texting the hairdresser. That really didn’t need to be pulled. I thought it was very useful advice. Just another way of men disrespecting women and getting their way. I’m disappointed in MN for that:

So agree. I can only think MN is worried about the Daily Fail cherry picking from threads like the 33 year old man in love with his 52 year old hairdresser, in some awful misogynistic article.

Tinsel that really didn't need to be pulled. A lot of people gave that guy some very kind but fair advice - he did really need to accept she wasn't interested. Some were pretty nasty though and it was obvious he was upset at the end.

I genuinely think when you're that invested, MN is not the place to ask for advice.

Some really ridiculous reasons for deletion, like "The OP had privacy concerns" even though they name changed for the thread anyway.

It's normally because the OP didn't get the answers they were after.

Ironic really because those are the answers a lot of people need to hear.

Mumsnet are heavily criticised for not pulling troll threads quickly enough (and there is a very active Sub Reddit devoted to the topic) so I don't think its surprising that more threads go more quickly now.

Excuse my ignorance but what's a troll thread? When someone starts a controversial thread solely to weed out some extreme replies?

Surely it's a good thing that troll threads and PBP are being zapped quickly

I think they've made a new year reso to be more on the ball or told their mods to buck up their ideas and earn their money!
Really disappointing when you've been following a thread for pages and then it disappears! Hate it when I've missed reading the "offending" post too! They should keep it open to those who've invested in it at least!

Well that's fair enough if the op wants it removing but it's all those saying "oooh I'm going to report you!" Like being back in the playground!

Yes Apple on the hairdresser thread, unless I missed something, I didn't see anything I thought was reportable. A few said they'd reported it. The only thing I didn't like about that thread was that the OP was obviously getting upset, which is a shame. Perhaps he himself asked for it to be deleted, in which case fair enough.

Yeah I've seen a few threads pulled recently because they might end up going the wrong way when a couple of deletions would have worked.

But then there was a thread that was completely fabricated but it was allowed to stay up because it was a longstanding member.

I'm not talking about troll threads. I mean threads for example where one poster has been aggressive to the OP and their posts could have been deleted but the whole thread pulled instead.

Or - risking this thread being deleted but I'm not only taking about this, it's the bigger picture I'm intetested in - the hairdresser one. I don't understand why that got pulled.

I think there are a lot more trolls, goody fuckers and downright unpleasant postings, leading to increased deletions

This is different to how it always used to be though. Plus the threads I'm thinking of have been deleted by MNHQ not at the request of the OP (according to deletion messages).

I'm interested if this is a new site wide policy - because if it is that's a significant change in culture - or just the moderation style of individual mods.

Honestly I think they're worried about the ones that go negative quickly ending up in the gutter press. Quick search of "Daily Mail Mumsnet", they pick content up from these boards all the time

Some people are reporting them so they then can post MN's reply on another (previously mentioned) website and get thier little gang of trolls out in force. How sad is that?

Having been the first person to report a thread that was causing upset (and later was deleted) and was told three times they weren't going to delete it.

I actually think their moderation sucks! And I'm happy that their actually paying attention to their own damn rules!

Naught did you ask them 3 times to delete the same thread? Which one was it?

Yeah I (and I know several people) reported a thread where the OP clearly had mental health issues but kept working herself up and was being negatively impacted by the thread. MNHQ kept saying they wouldn't delete the thread until they finally blocked any more commenting.
