Not a TAAT as such - more about moderation in general.

Is it just me or are MN much quicker to delete threads these days?

There have been a few examples recently where the thread had taken an odd turn - but which could have been solved by deletions or posdibly even a stern but the whole thread has been pulled, despite the thread containing useful advice.

Is this a new policy? Or are there a couple of new mods who are more likely to pull threads?

AIBU to think this is happening and it's a shame if so?

Thanks @LyingWitchInTheWardrobe - I did wonder for some time what I'd written that could have been construed as 'nonsense', so I'm glad it puzzled other people too!

MNHQ, if you are still reading, I'd love an explanation? I've never been on that end of a 'pulled' thread before and I was really surprised that it was done summarily without any clarification or liaison with the OP. I guess you live and learn! Thanks for the support though guys 💐

QuizzlyBear, I remember that thread and I can't imagine how it would be considered a troll thread or a 'nonsense one' either. It wasn't even goady, it was a real life situation that you needed some support on. I was going to post (in support of you) but it was deleted before I could. In my opinion, anything to so with kids clothes, bodies, or touching seems to ring 'alarm bells' because there have been so many pervy threads. Yours wasn't in the slightest but it probably just was deleted before being read properly.

I'm glad to read you're not fragile and I know you can take it on chin now but I bet it smarted at the time - and it was completely unfair.

I don't think I've ever seen a "We're looking at this so taking it down for now" thread, ever reappear? I really hope that MNHQ are still reading.

Thanks @londonista 💐 I was a bit Confused at the time but thankfully I'm not terribly fragile Grin xxx

True.
And FWIW it wasn't a nonsense post at all Quizzly.

Report
QuizzlyBear · 12/01/2018 15:33

That's the one! Still no explanation as to why it was 'nonsense'? I'd think MNHQ could be a little more sensitive about their comments left (seemingly) arbitrarily, especially when they seem to have no basis for that opinion.

I'm not post-natal (now!) or depressed but many people posting on here suffer from anxiety, low-self esteem and other MH issues and that sort of summary judgement on the problems they encounter in their lives don't help.

Quizzly, ah yes I remember. I can remember it just got arbitrarily shut down with a dismissive "nonsense post" message.

@londonista the thread was about how to broach the fact with my MIL that my sons did not want to be bathed by her at ages 12 & 10. She's very volatile and they were nervous of telling her to back off. Had a handful of helpful responses before the thread was deleted.

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe I did send a query to MNHQ which was never responded to. My account was deleted a day or so later. I sent several queries before receiving a response that said 'your account was deleted because it appeared to be a troll account'. Confusing since it was the first thread I'd started in over a year and none of my posts/comments have ever been reported before. I had to set up a whole new account!

Its a tricky one but I think the GF on this thread was pretty blatant

I think troll hunting Is usually more clear cut than goady fucker hunting or personal attacks.
It's tricky isn't isn't it? 🤔

Some of the snider and most unkind comments are worded in such a way that they aren't direct personal attacks. There are definitely some posters that seem to get a kick out of being nasty to other posters. It's a shame.

Hi folks,

Thanks very much for all of your posts. We welcome your feedback and take all of your comments very seriously.

We appreciate you've got a lot of questions and we're happy to clear up any confusion here.

Troll hunting is against our talk guidelines. That's a pretty straightforward policy of ours and not something we allow so please, no troll-hunting - if you have doubts, hit report or mail in.

It seems that one of the issues causing concern here is goady fuckery and just plain nasty posts.

Once reported to us, we try to build a bigger picture of the situation, which can take some time - what some people find goady, others find to be an interesting debate. It's a case-by-case kind of thing which we try to get right - although we're not claiming to be experts.

Whilst we try to avoid going straight to the ban button, we will do this if we have reached out to the poster and been ignored, or if it is immediately clear they are here on the wind-up.

If you have any individual queries or concerns, please do drop us a mail at [email protected]

A goady fucker is a goady fucker, the evidence is there for everyone to see and they deserve whatever hot coals (within guidelines) are being poured on their heads!

You’d think so, but I’ve had comments deleted here for pointing out a GF. No troll hunting or personal attacks, just a very obvious goader. The thing is, GF don’t get banned unless they cross that fine line into fully offensive/trolling. In the meantime, they keep forum traffic going as everyone piles in to argue with them - so as rude and annoying as they are, they get away with it. It would be nice if MNHQ updated their guidelines to specifically say ‘no troll or GF hunting’, so we know we can all stop calling a spade a spade when we see one.

Troll-hunting's a bit different though, isn't it? I mean, a poster can look like a troll, smell like one even - and not be one. I wouldn't like it if somebody were troll-hunting me as a troll if I weren't, it would make me feel shit.

If MNHQ ignores reports then they'd expect troll-hunting (even if it's not acceptable to them) but I've seen quite a few longer posts where troll-hunters only start posting towards the end of it. They may well have reported but seconds/minutes later they expect a response from MNHQ. That's a bit unreasonable. Fair enough if the thread has been there a while and nothing's happened. My experience is that paedo/photos threads get taken down fast and that's probably because masses of posters are reporting, even if they're not posting on the thread.

Well MNHQ seem to be allowing a certain poster to follow another poster around and give them grief.

Very confused about what is and isn’t allowed on here now

I think the word "hunting" is the problem. Hunting isn't very well regarded these days.

Maybe GF hunting is now also a banworthy offence, while goadiness still isn't

It did spiral and got quite nasty. I think MNHQ were right to delete. However they have left another thread up even though it is a slight TAAT

Ahhh yeah I didn't realise it spiralled like that. In which case yes I agree it was justified.

Actually I might have been a bit wrong there......just seen another thread that suggested it descended into racist comments which I hadn’t seen, in which case it was justifiably removed. However, the delete msg did not make that clear at all, which it should have done IMO.

Judas I commented on a names thread saying I was worried about people taking the piss out of names that obv belong to people or their children. I didn't report the thread though and then it was taken down anyway. Shame really cos now it looks like I had a moan or something.

watch what you’re doing with that hammer
Or even, Careful with that axe, Eugene.
Eugene. Now there’s an odd name for a baby. Wonder what sort of response it would get on the Baby Names board? Who knows, but there’s usually quite a lot of ‘heated debate’ and even dissent when it comes to certain Baby Names. I was just typing a response on a Names thread (ok, not Baby Names, but still) but I’m usually slow to get it down as I AM CONSTANTLY BEING INTERRUPTED. Anyway, by the time I’ve hit ‘Post’ the thread’s gone. For ‘piss taking’(I paraphrase). I fully expect this thread to be gone by the time I get this bloody post out.......
