To think MMHQ are more trigger happy these days?

Not a TAAT as such - more about moderation in general.

Is it just me or are MN much quicker to delete threads these days?

There have been a few examples recently where the thread had taken an odd turn - but which could have been solved by deletions or posdibly even a stern but the whole thread has been pulled, despite the thread containing useful advice.

Is this a new policy? Or are there a couple of new mods who are more likely to pull threads?

AIBU to think this is happening and it's a shame if so?

Hi folks, thanks for your comments.

We do appreciate that when you're following a thread, it can be really annoying when we zap it. If a thread is generating lots of reports, is upsetting quite a few MNers and we can see it's rapidly going downhill, then often the best thing to do is get rid of it- otherwise it will continue to cause upset and in our experience, often takes a turn for the worse and ends up being deleted anyway.

When an OP wants their thread deleted, more often that not, we will push back. We do look at each of these cases in turn and try and make an informed decision. It's certainly not an exact science, and we don't make the right call every time, but we try and do what's right by the OP and other MNers.

If you have any questions about any aspect of our moderation, drop us a line at [email protected] and we'll be happy to chat to you.

Thanks
MNHQ

Hi All,

Thanks for the reports about this thread.
We know emotions are running high, but here is no need to harrang posters with unfounded accusations.
We've had a look behind the scenes and there is nothing to link any posters on this thread with the trolling that has occurred recently.

We'd appreciate it if you could use the same courtesy when posting messages on Talk as you would use when speaking to someone face to face.
The Talk guidelines still apply. www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette

We will be closing this thread to new posts for a while to allow us time to go through it and answer all the reports that are coming in.

Hi folks,

Thanks very much for all of your posts. We welcome your feedback and take all of your comments very seriously.

We appreciate you've got a lot of questions and we're happy to clear up any confusion here.

Troll hunting is against our talk guidelines. That's a pretty straightforward policy of ours and not something we allow so please, no troll-hunting - if you have doubts, hit report or mail in.

It seems that one of the issues causing concern here is goady fuckery and just plain nasty posts.

Once reported to us, we try to build a bigger picture of the situation, which can take some time - what some people find goady, others find to be an interesting debate. It's a case-by-case kind of thing which we try to get right - although we're not claiming to be experts.

Whilst we try to avoid going straight to the ban button, we will do this if we have reached out to the poster and been ignored, or if it is immediately clear they are here on the wind-up.

If you have any individual queries or concerns, please do drop us a mail at [email protected]
