Not a TAAT as such - more about moderation in general.

Is it just me or are MN much quicker to delete threads these days?

There have been a few examples recently where the thread had taken an odd turn - but which could have been solved by deletions or posdibly even a stern but the whole thread has been pulled, despite the thread containing useful advice.

Is this a new policy? Or are there a couple of new mods who are more likely to pull threads?

AIBU to think this is happening and it's a shame if so?

Nobody ever collated a history of my inane ramblings. Nor your insights, @C8H10N4O2. We need to be more... edgy?

So they did.

I don't think you can call that Reddit "trolling" though. It's just unmoderated.

It's been quite helpful sometimes for some things.

What i dont understand is when someone makes a horrible unnecessary comment which then gets deleted but then you will have posts and posts of people quoting the comment and they are not deleted.

I think nasty comments should be kept so that people can see what certain posters are like.

It's a group calls mntrolls. Trolls is in their name so it's something they identify with. They call themselves trolls and then get offended when they are called trolls. Hmm

"people also get upset when threads they are interested in are deleted."

Yes, and we have no recourse to complain except from starting separate threads. Maybe there should be a 'keep the thread' button next to report.

I see this thread has also been linked for virtue signalling to their little troll group.

No they don’t call themselves trolls - no one on MNtrolls calls them a troll - you lurk enough you should know that.

That's where you're sadly wrong. Would you like me to tell you why that sub was initially set up?

Grin

No it's ABOUT trolls.

And, anything else, because its unmoderated.

I suppose no moderation will lead to interesting mixed posting.

IIRC the reddit thing started to discuss trolls not because the posters are trolls, very different thing.

May I repeat what's been said before: there is no "us" and "them". All who complain or defend the sub are both mnetters AND redditors, at least as frequent lurkers.

I feel like I'm caught in some internet loop. Go and talk to them! so that I can watch or don't read at all. Reading people discuss you will do your head in if you don't engage.

Why does a thread need deleting because it's upsetting some people? Life would be terribly bland if there was nothing that ever caused upset, often causing a little upset is the way to stimulate debate and get the opposing view out there too but not on MN .

Mumof56 clearly dislikes MNtrolls - she could quite easily post her dislike for it there but brings it over here. It’s easy to avoid if you know you don’t like it.

No one is stopping anyone on the other site pulling people up for mentioning them but no she does it here

Grin at Mumof56 missing the point, although there is a grain of truth in there somewhere.

I don't imagine threads mentioned reddit are deleted just because it's been mentioned. Surely the bunfighting has got something to do with it!

I'll tell you anyway Mumof56

A long time ago in Mumsnetland someone started a thread (HWSNBN) He Who Should Not Be Named. Many posters cheered HWSNBN on waving their little pom poms but many others in Mumsnetland saw through HWSNBN. There was unrest in Mumsnetland and threads kept being deleted when the citizens of Mumsnetland wanted to discuss this further. A good fairy came along and created MNTrolls. Those on there are not Trolls you see, they see through many naughty posters who tell naughty lies sucking in the good citizens of Mumsnetland.

And that's how it all began.

Gwenhwyfar You have a bee in your bonnet about this, it sounds like you want the ability for you and other posters to say what you want without any form of moderation or any consideration for how others may read or perceive their comments. The owners of the forum disagree with you, they have decided on the overall tone they want their forum to take, they have lines they don't allow to be crossed, that's their call. They don't put someone else's enjoyment above someone else's upset, if that doesn't suit you then you can either argue the case with MNHQ on the basis that your way would be better and convince them of that or find a forum that suits you better.
