At a 19yr Old Transwoman being elected a Labour woman’s officer

Seems the old WO stepped down after alleged bullying and accusation of transphobia. The new WO is a 19 yr old Transwoman - i think who made many of The allegations against the previous WO.

What experience has a 19 yr old TW got to hold this post - weirder than weird.

So a man got a woman fired from her job and replaced her as the womens officer ?

For fucks sake, it's kafka-esque.

AfunaMbatata · 20/11/2017 08:54

Wow, just how fuckig stupid can you be to elect a male to do that job?! What the actual fuck?!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 20/11/2017 09:00

Labour Party rules state that “the women’s officer must be a woman”. Ms Madigan said it was “misguided” to suggest she could not fulfil the duties of the role, simply because she was born male.

Jesus christ, it's absolutely farcical

Is it mean to hope that this teenager will be deluged with constituents wanting to discuss discrimination during pregnancy, maternity leave, abortion rights, teenage mothers, breast cancer care, #MeToo, sex discrimination, assault, HRT and work-life balance?

I suspect they think of womanhood in that sort of theoretical way of most teenagers. They certainly seem to think that if women have problems because of their biology, they just need to get over it, otherwise it's somehow letting down the sisterhood.

I don't want any inexperienced, self-obsessed, appearance-obsessed teenager, whose only campaigns seem to have been 'let me wear a skirt' and 'tell that woman to stop being mean to me', telling me how to woman.

Can we have someone who cares about actual biological women's issues instead, please?

Lancelottie · 20/11/2017 09:02

Surely, even in the 'transwomen are women and we mean to keep saying it' brigade, this isn't a woman, because they're only 19 and can't have had the requisite 2-year 'living as a woman' period, however meaningless that is?

jellyfrizz · 20/11/2017 09:06

I would argue strongly that all appeals to biology are anti-feminist. We can’t challenge the view we are limited by our biology in one breath and use the biology argument against trans women in the next.

This quote really pissed me off. So, women have historically only been treated as second class citizens because of how we present, nothing to do with biology at all. WTF?

Lancelottie · 20/11/2017 09:07

They do sound a bit dim.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/11/2017 09:09

Just to to point out that it is actually a neighbouring constituency he got the job in..

There is also a thread in feminism about this

But yes, it is totally taking the piss

  1. He's male
  1. I can't see a teenage girl being given the job
misscockerspaniel · 20/11/2017 09:09

Yesterday, I read that Linda Bellos was under investigation by the Labour party after a Labour pressure group complained that she "was inciting violence against trans members and the wider trans community".

I am beginning to realise that what is happening to woman (eg; male and female loos becoming unisex and urinals) is just another way of men dominating and oppressing women.

Lancelottie · 20/11/2017 09:11

That statement actually sets out the conflict of interest quite neatly, doesn't it? This teenager can't represent the needs and experiences of women as they differ from those of men, because to do so would point up the differences between those of biological women and of transwomen.

SilverdaleGlen · 20/11/2017 09:13

Ah labour, please do crack on with making yourself unelectable Hmm

Cactusjelly00 · 20/11/2017 09:17

I know who I won't be voting for in the next election.
It pains me as a British citizen who's always voted labour (even being overseas) to say that in the next election my vote will be going to whoever doesn't support this shit. Even if they are conservatives.
That hurts.
Sad

InfiniteSheldon · 20/11/2017 09:20

Great dichotomy: I can do this job because there's no difference between you and me what's the job? Oh it's about helping with the difference ????? What the actual fuck is going on with the Labour Party.

IfNot · 20/11/2017 09:23

Fuck. So, the Labour party is either spineless or mysoginistic..
Or so in thrall to the generation they are counting on to elect them that all basic common sense has left the building.
Or all 3?

napmeistergeneral · 20/11/2017 09:24

What. The. Fuck.
Laughable. If it weren't so utterly depressing.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/11/2017 09:25

Wtf?! Shock

brasty · 20/11/2017 09:25

Fucking stupid Labour Party

WhoWants2Know · 20/11/2017 09:26

So we have given up employing people based on intelligence, education and experience, in favour of someone who may look nice in a skirt. Good-oh.

KC225 · 20/11/2017 09:29

19?

DrWibley · 20/11/2017 09:29

Where did everyone think this gender thing was going? I am amazed people are surprised.

brasty · 20/11/2017 09:29

And the Women's Officer job will be dealing mainly with issues like pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment. Although I suspect Lily will want to focus on trans campaigns.

GerdaLovesLili · 20/11/2017 09:30

It's all about the yoof vote innit?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/11/2017 09:30

The Tories are no better. They are the ones pushing through the Gender Recognition Act.

The Greens have swallowed the Kool Aid too. The Women's Equality Party too, I gather. Don't know about the LibDems.

So who can we vote for?

Brexit doesn't help either, as Labour are so utterly useless on that issue as well.

listsandbudgets · 20/11/2017 09:31

Its easy to be flexible when you are spineless..
