Do your family take it in turns to pump on the Christmas tree?

DSs friend has just asked me this. He said at Christmas, whilst putting the tree up the whole family take it in turns to pump on it. He then asked, dead seriously "do your family do the same thing?". DS looked at me as though we'd been missing an essential part of Christmas all these years.

AIBU to think this is beyond weird to say to your mates mum??!

Yes, Santa doesn't come if the tree isn't properly gassed.

OverTheHammer · 14/08/2017 21:24

Well that is kind of what he was suggesting!

Pump what on it?

tshirtsuntan · 14/08/2017 21:24

Pump as in fart? Nope, I've never knowingly trumped at a Christmas tree Grin

He meant they all take it in turns to fart on it 😳 I asked him how this tradition started and what happens if you have no fart in you - DH got cross for actually engaging in it but DS was genuinely interested

What???!!!!!

No, we don't. Are we doing Christmas wrong

is this the Internet's latest tradition like xmas eve pyjamas and elf on the soddimg shelf

NoMudNoLotus11 · 14/08/2017 21:27

This is weird Confused

Cheby · 14/08/2017 21:28

I have just woken the baby (who was previously asleep on my chest) laughing at this. How old is this kid? I hope he was trolling you. Otherwise what kind of messed up Christmas tradition is that? 😂

CockacidalManiac · 14/08/2017 21:28

Not advisable if there are candles on it.

2bluestars · 14/08/2017 21:29

Do what now?!

FreyaJade · 14/08/2017 21:29

Ew how bizarre

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 14/08/2017 21:29

Well often we have people on MN asking about new Christmas traditions they can start. Perhaps this will become one of them...

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/08/2017 21:29

I can't read for laughing . Might start the tradition in our house but what happens if you blow off the needles 😂

Cuntysnark · 14/08/2017 21:29

Ok. I've read many threads that are very amusing where other posters have said they are crying with laughter and I've managed a smile but little more. But this one has got me. I will suggest it closer to the big day but think my family will think I've gone stark staring mad. We are, incidentally, not short of wind in this family. Happy to introduce a new tradition.

NC4now · 14/08/2017 21:29

I bet his mum's mortified

Eminybob · 14/08/2017 21:29

No I have never done this and have never heard of it being a thing!

SaucyJack · 14/08/2017 21:30

Does this particular ritual take place pre or post the traditional sprout consumption?

Gotanewusernamenow · 14/08/2017 21:30
Hmm
Namechangetempissue · 14/08/2017 21:31

What the fuck?! That is beyond peculiar (and my family are weird as hell!).

TheScottishPlay · 14/08/2017 21:31

Ours is in a pot in the garden all year and we chat to it, encouraging it to grow.
It's 'fed' rabbit droppings but no human expulsions are encouraged.

Glumglowworm · 14/08/2017 21:32

What a lovely family tradition at least it's original Confused

Must pop to the Christmas board and see if it's the latest trend

CaptainHammer · 14/08/2017 21:32

My family have some weird traditions but that's pretty weird!!

MrsGotobed · 14/08/2017 21:33

haha I had to click on this thread to see what the typo was about and now I can see it wasn't a typo Grin

But, no, we don't pump on the tree.

OverTheHammer · 14/08/2017 21:33

Glad it's not just me that's never heard of it then. This lad is 14!
