Just that really, I just feel that sometimes everything feels like it set up to help the dull.. Hang around for ages and you get promoted, don't have any interests or a social life, get a great credit rating, stay in one house for years and all the banks trust you, don't ever stick out, don't ever get hassled etc etc etc. .

Huh?

Have you been drinking?

SeekingSugar · 12/08/2017 20:46

OK

Albertschair · 12/08/2017 20:47

Welcome to adulthood

MelsMam · 12/08/2017 20:47

Yanbu.

I'm sure there'll be tons of Tory voters on here soon, ready to prove you and I wrong. Dullfuckers

MrsDustyBusty · 12/08/2017 20:48

So how fascinating are you, OP? And what kind of trouble are you in?

Gorgosparta · 12/08/2017 20:48

So you think people who get promoted or have good credit ratings only do so because they are dull?

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 12/08/2017 20:48

I'll have whatever you've been having.

ArmySal · 12/08/2017 20:49

Are all the successful people you know dull then? Tory voters?!

MelsMam · 12/08/2017 20:49

P.S. They control the stock market, the dull fuckers do. Capitalism, it's what they do best.

SabineUndine · 12/08/2017 20:50

Do you feel, perhaps, that you deserve more in life than these dull people you describe?

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 12/08/2017 20:50

Philip Larkin wrote a poem to this effect 'Born Yesterday '
'May you be ordinary
Have, like, other women
An average of talents
Not ugly, not good looking...
In fact, may you be dull-'
He wrote that as a dedication to Sally Amis, his friend Kingsley's daughter.

mailfuckoff · 12/08/2017 20:50

I'm a dull fucker. I'm in bed before 9 on a satuday. That's my lovely bed in my big house from where I will take my new car to my fantastically paid job. Being dull means I live the life I want too.

mailfuckoff · 12/08/2017 20:51

Ps I'm no Tory voter. I'm a liberal at heart and a rebel behind closed doors.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 12/08/2017 20:51

I see your OP in that light. Sally Amis would have been far happier if she'd had a dull life. As it was she suffered from alcoholism and died young :(

steff13 · 12/08/2017 20:52

Paying your bills on time and being a reliable person doesn't mean you have no interests or social life. You just pursue those things outside working hours.

Timeforabiscuit · 12/08/2017 20:53

You're right, financial institutions tend to like people to stay in a similarish place rather than hare off to Kathmandu because the sunlight glimmered on the water in a poetic way.

But a life well lived isnt typically judged by knowing all the keyboard shortcuts on excel either!

PacificDogwod · 12/08/2017 20:53

I am very grateful to be dull and to lead a dull life.
Stability, no fear of chaos, knowing what happens next has a lot to commend it.

I am fascinated by some people's very interesting lives, full of drama and ups and downs, but it makes me feel exhausted just watching them... Wink

60sname · 12/08/2017 20:53

Being scarily bitter doesn't bring many advantages in life either

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/08/2017 20:54

What on earth are you talking about? Hmm

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 12/08/2017 20:54

If you were so amazing and fun, surely you wouldn't be spending your Saturday night on MN.

PurpleDaisies · 12/08/2017 20:55

Youre pretty narrow minded if you think staying in one house is dull. If you find somewhere you love living why would you move? We're near a city with loads to do.

FluffyWhiteSlippers · 12/08/2017 20:56

I mean.. aren't the rich and powerful living quite not-dull lives? Money, freedom, risk-seeking sexual misdemeanours?

Gah81 · 12/08/2017 20:56

Never been in a place where people were promoted just because they had been around for ages. But, yes, people who work hard and do the sensible thing can often (but not always - tons of people slog their arses off and get v.little for it, while many others benefit from in-built privileges) get on in life: that's just fine by me.

scaryclown · 12/08/2017 20:56

I'm just a little bit sick that my extremely boring friend actually wants her plodding job, no life existence, and has more money saved than they can imagine what to do with, whereas I feel extremely constrained and limited and miserable, and can't seem to save a bean. I just think low income should go to people who actually want a get up work go to bed life. I choose something else...
