Just that really, I just feel that sometimes everything feels like it set up to help the dull.. Hang around for ages and you get promoted, don't have any interests or a social life, get a great credit rating, stay in one house for years and all the banks trust you, don't ever stick out, don't ever get hassled etc etc etc. .

No they wouldn't. Drug addicts need sleep place, food shop, dealer. That's it.

Your life is so exciting you are spending a Saturday evening trolling MN. Wait 'til I burst with jealousy. Hmm

OrphanAccount · 12/08/2017 21:23

Yeah, OP you're so much cooler and edgy than those dull people with their steady jobs, mortgages and savings. Hmm Get over yourself. You're coming across as very tedious TBH.

MeanAger · 12/08/2017 21:23

gelnames · 12/08/2017 21:23

A so called dull life is perfection to those who enjoy it, it can look like hell to others though.

I'd prefer to call it a quiet life, lived and enjoyed by many. Not everyone wants to be out every night drinking, eating and carousing, and constantly doing THINGS. Some, like myself enjoy being at home. It is my haven of peace and tranquility.

scaryclown · 12/08/2017 21:23

I am 'finding the market' for this discussion, quite admirably, you mean Grin

No I don't agree. Quite often it's not the plodders who get the rewards. But spendthrifts who then whine about being broke and having a bad credit rating get on my nerves.

Gorgosparta · 12/08/2017 21:23

I am guessing some people who know the Op find her boring.

People who think they are exciting usually arent to alot of other people. They just make others roll their eyes.

ShootingQuadrantids · 12/08/2017 21:23

Biscuit....obviously failed on first attempt but this is what I intended to convey!

yetanotherelsa · 12/08/2017 21:24

In my experience people with apparently dull jobs get paid more precisely because it's not an exciting job. The money makes up for the lack of glamour.

Personally I quite like being dull, if dull also means stable and secure. There was enough drama in my life aged 16-25 to last me the rest of my dull and hopefully comfortable days

BabychamSocialist · 12/08/2017 21:24

I know what you mean. With the level of experience I have, I should probably be a head or deputy head by now. I'm deputy head of year, which I only went for because it was a job share with someone else. I've never been overly invested in promotions and I don't let my life revolve around work.

It works for some people to be incredibly dull and rise to the top, but I decided to live life how I wanted instead. A promotion's nice and so is the nice pay increase, but what's the point if you're never at home to enjoy it?

scaryclown · 12/08/2017 21:26

Actually I am trying the dull life and finding it exhausting and anxiety inducing. I have more money in the bank but feel ill with the switching off of so many aspects of my personality to do it.. I actually feel like i"m in a sort of open prison, yet I am doing the things that so many people have been dreaming of their whole lives, 9-5, meal at home TV, sleep, etc but for me it's fucks NG hell on earth I really can't stand it...

OP posts:
GeekyWombat · 12/08/2017 21:26

What can we spend money on that isn't dull then OP?

Squarerouteofsquirrel · 12/08/2017 21:26

Assuming you where rightly rewarded for your non dullness, what exciting stuff would you be spending your money on?

All the people on here seem to have spent the money they've earned from their dull jobs on rather nice things, nices homes, food. Making their lives more comfortable, so they can enjoy their money.

Pallisers · 12/08/2017 21:26

you do know, OP, that people in your life find you boring as arse yourself and think of you as that tedious woman.

And no, themost the women in the commuter town aren't clones. They are unique individuals with individual struggles, emotions, history etc. They might surprise you yet. You don't see it because you don't know them - because you despise them. I hate how it is ok to treat individuals as one block of conformity just because they - shock! horror! - want to marry, have kids, do their best for their kids according to their lights.

ItsNachoCheese · 12/08/2017 21:26

Im not a tory voter, i have interests in cooking and gardening but dont have a social life due to being an lp to my ds (night out last month was first in about 3 years), my credit score is utterly depressing and the banks seem to hate me as ive no credit but cant get any to build my rating Hmm i hope ill stay in my current house for years to come as im finally settled. Life isnt too bad certainly isnt dull. I have my ds and ddog and we have a roof over our heads and im thankful for what i have

FluffyWhiteSlippers · 12/08/2017 21:27

What is going on in your life that isn't dull, OP?

geekone · 12/08/2017 21:27

Lol well that is sort of true. My DH and I total dullfuckers lol promoted, one child, nice house, holiday, doing well, happy etc. however not reaching for the stars or sticking out or trying to be the best means we are not movie stars, singers, footballers and so are comfortable not Ritch adventurous or setting the world on fire 🔥. Teaching our child however to reach for those stars and set the world on fire Smile

ExplodedCloud · 12/08/2017 21:27

Pant or indeed IT blokes.

scary I take it you don't have children?

TheKrakenSmith · 12/08/2017 21:28

You sound exactly like my best mate. I teach, and he's amazed that I manage to save, and thinks I should be paid less as I don't 'need' the money. Jealousy and envy are not pretty.

Ecureuil · 12/08/2017 21:28

Seriously OP, why do you think you are so superior to everyone else?

MeanAger · 12/08/2017 21:28

So go on then, tell us about your terribly exciting life?

Pallisers · 12/08/2017 21:29

9-5, meal at home TV, sleep, etc but for me it's fucks NG hell on earth I really can't stand it...

But that isn't the only way to live your life. Really it isn't. You are probably young - younger than me anyway. You could do anything different with a bit of planning and thought. you could actually combine a decent salary with a life that isn't on the treadmill you hate so much. Honestly I think you sound miserable and when we are miserable it is hard to think clearly but there is definitely a different way of life out there for you if you really want it.

You just don't have to despise those who DO want that life - that is their choice.

BrainSaysNo · 12/08/2017 21:31

My Mum always told me boring people got bored...
Get your mates over, and do something- it doesn't have to cost a bomb.

ShootingQuadrantids · 12/08/2017 21:32

Well I'm a 50 something and I've just decided to jack in a stressful job after a couple of difficult years personally. So no job but I can now be a dullard and stay at home in my beautiful ' biggish ' house in a much sort after northern city and make my dull jam, have my dull dinner parties and take my dull walks. Sounds like heaven to me! When you get to my age having fun isn't about flying around by the skin of your teeth and livings ' on the edge'!
