Just that really, I just feel that sometimes everything feels like it set up to help the dull.. Hang around for ages and you get promoted, don't have any interests or a social life, get a great credit rating, stay in one house for years and all the banks trust you, don't ever stick out, don't ever get hassled etc etc etc. .

I just think that if I set up a company the dullards would get paid less than the stars you know, front of house staff more than warehouse people, sales people more than excel monkeys etc etc

Wow Hmm you really aren't coming across well OP

HolyShmoly · 12/08/2017 21:05

Holy fuck. You mean if you find a job that matches your talents, are responsible with money and don't thrive on drama AND play by normal societal conventions your life sometimes works out well?

How outrageous. You should start a petition scaryclown. Biscuit

PurpleDaisies · 12/08/2017 21:05

You're assuming that "dullards" are worse at their jobs than other employees.

People should be paid according to their role not their personality.

PantPlot · 12/08/2017 21:05

Oh god I bet you're one of those special types who is 'not cut out for office work' as well.

scaryclown · 12/08/2017 21:06

I don't mean the people who have to hone it with effort. Some people just are like that. I have to really struggle and strain to do the same thing two days in a row, other people love to have everyday the same until the die..

Who are you to determine what is dull?

Aptly, dullard actually means stupid

MaisyPops · 12/08/2017 21:07

In my line of work staying put usually means getting more tasks dumped on you whilst some new thing swans in and gets promoted for doing half what existing staff are doing.

But I like living in one place for a reasonable amount of time, lots of friends, good support network, secure, not throwing money at estate agent fees and rent deposits so can have a bit more money for nicer things, secure job so able to live a comfortable but not flash existence without depriving ourselves of things. Time to build up hobbies and go away with hobby groups.

Stable career and not moving means that we don't have the big pressures and can focus on just living quite a fun day to day life.

MaximaDeWit · 12/08/2017 21:07

But what if, in your company, the "dullards" are adding more value than the "people who want more" then get poached by someone who is paying them more. How are you going to pay your exciting people with no dullards to keep the money turning over?

MelsMam · 12/08/2017 21:07

The op has a point. Why should people who conform, be rewarded? Why should conformists be more worthy, and ultimately more fruitful in life?

Op, our world is overpopulated and highly competitive, full of dullards striving for one-upmanship.

However, being stable does not necessarily equal dull. I think I know what you're saying, yours just not articulating it very well.

ExplodedCloud · 12/08/2017 21:07

And when your business goes down the pan through lack of good 'excel monkeys' you might regret that.

Batteriesallgone · 12/08/2017 21:07

Is it true that 'may you live in interesting times' is an old Chinese curse? Or is that just urban myth?

Anyway OP, plenty of people on minimum wage are dull. Plenty of rich people are unpredictable and wild. You are just talking about one specific instance of being incredibly envious of someone else's bank balance.

Being bitter about it won't get you anywhere though. Maybe thinking about why you find it impossible to save might.

MaximaDeWit · 12/08/2017 21:08

Capitalism

MelsMam · 12/08/2017 21:08

You're, not yours

Neoflex · 12/08/2017 21:08

That dull person's promotion is probably a dull job.
That dull person's mortgage is probably in a dull area with dull neighbours.
If you know so many dull people maybe you could move somewhere exciting. Quit your job and start a new glamorous career.
My neighbour is a famous retired gangster who hires prostitutes once a week and isn't shy about noise. It's the exciting lifestyle I've always wanted.

LordPercy · 12/08/2017 21:09

Is this a drunk thread? Hmm

The dullards....what a horrible phrase WTAF How would you describe yourself OP, vibrant bright and outgoing.....? not coming across that way

MeanAger · 12/08/2017 21:09

Ooh cannot wait to hear all about your thrill ride of a life OP! Please share it with me, I'm far too dull to have a life have no money either though

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 12/08/2017 21:09

I think you're talking shit. It's not about being dull or not, you choose what you want out of life and go for it. You sound very jealous.

MyCalmX · 12/08/2017 21:09

Or cold it just be the people live within their means and you're feckless?

Full disclosure, I'm far from dull having travelled the world for 10 years without any debt, and only meeting dh in my very late 20s so have lived a full and fun life until the dc.

I own a house in London, have a family and probably the best job in the world. Well in London, even dh says so Smile

Dull people don't get everything, it's smart people that do Wink

MelsMam · 12/08/2017 21:09

Money: the root of all evil

Ecureuil · 12/08/2017 21:10

I used to get paid loads. Spent it all on having a really good time. Saved up loads then blew it all living abroad for a few years. Am I dull? I managed to get promoted multiple times.

MeanAger · 12/08/2017 21:10

Why should people who conform, be rewarded? Why should conformists be more worthy, and ultimately more fruitful in life?

Because they are providing something useful to the person dishing out the £££

scaryclown · 12/08/2017 21:11

Oh no, I do office work very well and enjoy it, but that is different. The dull people I'm talking about do office work but neither love it or hate it, do it OK, go home and do nothing. I just think it's weird that that type end up with houses and cars and promotions when I think they are no really contributing..its just something that always mystified me.. I suppose just as much as how some people with money buy things that are such stupid uses of money, like car loans, slate for a garden etc which are really ineffectual uses of money..

Batteriesallgone · 12/08/2017 21:11

Otherwise society would be fucked. Imagine if we all thought the law shouldn't apply to us Confused or if businesses issued each other invoices and the recipients were the ones who decided the payment terms, being non-conformists.

Imagine marrying someone when you knew they were a non-conformist who didn't plan to honour their vows.

Co-operation only works if you conform to the rules of the situation. It goes far deeper than capitalism. It's survival.

ExplodedCloud · 12/08/2017 21:11

Mels the biggest rewards are often reaped by people who weren't the boring conventional types the OP despises. But those entrepreneurs got themselves rich by hard work and not by moaning on the internet about their dull friend's savings.

MeanAger · 12/08/2017 21:12

TBH OP it just sounds like you're shit with money and looking to blame it on someone else. You sound like you have an issue with taking responsibility for yourself and your own choices.
