Amazon Mistake WWYD?

Hi everyone

Last night I ordered a babygate and baby cutlery from amazon prime to be delivered today.

This morning, the cutlery arrived and so did the babygate, or so I thought. Turns out that amazon have sent me a ball pit and pack of 100 balls. No babygate.

The ball pit and balls are exactly the same as what we ordered and received some 8 months ago! I've just had an email to say that the babygate I ordered has been disbatched, no mention of the ballpit they've accidentally sent me.

AIBU to keep the ballpit and say nothing? Would you keep it or return it?

Return it. Anything else is stealing.

JumpingJellybeanz · 03/08/2017 13:02

I return it because I'm not a thief.

Diel · 03/08/2017 13:03

Return it. It's not yours and you already have one.

HooplaLoopla1 · 03/08/2017 13:05

On MN you're only ever going to get approx 90% "return it or you're a thief" and 10% "keep it, it's their cock op" 🙄

JacquesHammer · 03/08/2017 13:06

Go on chat. Explain. Ask them to arrange to pick it up.

Onehellofaride · 03/08/2017 13:06

I would ring them, they may tell you to keep it anyway! Amazon often do.

londonrach · 03/08/2017 13:09

Go on chat. Tell them. They probably tell you to keep it. Did you get the baby gate etc

Musereader · 03/08/2017 13:09

Contact them, my mum got a free buggy this way, they managed to send a buggy we ordered twice and after negotiaotion we agreed to pay half price for the second one but they never charged us the half even though we told them twice that they hadn't, the second time we even got told that we had paid so after that just left it.

puddingpen · 03/08/2017 13:10

Yep, ring them. Explain it is difficult for you to return it so they need to collect as it is there mistake. I reckon you've got a 50/50 chance of them just telling you to keep it.

WhichJob · 03/08/2017 13:11

I would double check that you haven't been charged for it, it is easy to accidentally reorder something you have already have. Then I would ask them about it, they may let you keep it anyway.

Tazerface · 03/08/2017 13:11

Go on Chat and ask.

Normally they let you keep it if it's not a high worth item as it costs more to collect and inventory again. But good to know you're doing the right thing anyway!

CrohnicallyPregnant · 03/08/2017 13:11

I would always own up to receiving extra items. It's happened 3 times recently.

One was a cheap electronics item from china. They never acknowledged my message so I got to keep it with a clear conscience.

One was an item that I had ordered months earlier but it got lost in the post. I had already received the replacement so when the original turned up I offered to return if they paid postage- they told me not to bother and enjoy the freebie.

Then for some reason I received 5 of the same item in one parcel (I only ordered 1). I contacted the seller to arrange to return them, they said I could keep the extras and just pay a discounted price! I was so shocked at the cheekiness I never replied and they didn't mention it again.

IHateUncleJamie · 03/08/2017 13:13

I would go on Amazon live chat and let them know. They might say keep it anyway as it's probably cheaper than sending a courier to collect. But at least you'll have a clear conscience.

MrsOverTheRoad · 03/08/2017 13:16

Oh keep it. It's bloody Amazon not some poor old lady! I kept a train set they sent me as a double and I gave it to our local woman's shelter.

They were very pleased with it.

SparklyLeprechaun · 03/08/2017 13:19

Ask them in case they charge you for it. They are not going to ask for it back.

Lightbulbdances · 03/08/2017 13:20

Use amazon chat and tell them, they may let you keep it anyway, but don't just not tell them, that's pretty crappy.

elfycat · 03/08/2017 13:21

Own up, but make the cost of returning it their problem.

I once got 12 pots of Body Shop stuff instead of 3. I asked what they wanted done with the other 9... I got to keep them guilt free.

thepumpk1neater · 03/08/2017 13:22

You should tell them, it would be dishonest to do otherwise. It's of no use to you anyway if you received the same item a few months ago.

RapunzelsRealMom · 03/08/2017 13:23

Oh keep it. It's bloody Amazon not some poor old lady!

Not necessarily the case. Sellers on Amazon are often ordinary people trying to earn some money so a mistake like that can have quite an impact.
If it's Amazons mistake, the vendor will likely be compensated and Amazon may well tell you to keep the item, however, if the mistake is not highlighted to them, the vendor's stock will be lower than it should be with no explanation or payment for it.

SaltySeaBird · 03/08/2017 13:23

I had similar with FatFace, I received my order and then a couple of children's coats that I hadn't ordered as wouldn't have been able to afford them. I loved them though!

I took them back to a store and they barely said thanks Hmm but I suppose at least my conscience is clear!

Do you really want it if you already have one? Confused

leccybill · 03/08/2017 13:23

Do you need a second one anyway, what would you do with it?

PickleSarnie · 03/08/2017 13:24

Tell them definitely. They'll almost certainly tell you to keep it. But it's pretty wrong to just keep something that isn't yours.

Scribblegirl · 03/08/2017 13:24

(I'm usually in the 'keep it' category but can't see the point on this occasion!!)
