Amazon Mistake WWYD?

Hi everyone

Last night I ordered a babygate and baby cutlery from amazon prime to be delivered today.

This morning, the cutlery arrived and so did the babygate, or so I thought. Turns out that amazon have sent me a ball pit and pack of 100 balls. No babygate.

The ball pit and balls are exactly the same as what we ordered and received some 8 months ago! I've just had an email to say that the babygate I ordered has been disbatched, no mention of the ballpit they've accidentally sent me.

AIBU to keep the ballpit and say nothing? Would you keep it or return it?

Yes op better ring 999 and hand yourself in then. Their cock up, you did not march in there and take it. Sometimes I think, only on Mumsnet!

I have always been told to keep items delivered to me in error by Amazon. My favourite was 10 copies of the same French language novel of which 2 were large print versions Smile

I donated them to the local library who seemed surprised, but not displeased (it probably boosted their French language fiction section by about 30%!)

From a moral point of view, I would return it but, knowing amazon, it's probably not worth the hassle. I was once delivered something I hadn't ordered and I had so much stress trying to return it, with them trying to charge me for sending it back and the like, that I wish I'd just kept it. It wasn't worth going through so much stress to fix their mistake.
Plus, I shouldn't think it could technically be classed as theft, since they gave it to you.

Why should you have to pay postage, bus fair and inconvenience yiurself for that. If they sent you a smart flatscreen tv in error yes I would contact them, they woukd have to come and collect it.

If Amazon says "you can keep it", then that's fine; they are giving posession to you.

The OP wouldn't have to pay p&p, bus fare etc. to return the goods, Amazon would send a returns label and arrange for the goods to be collected, if they want the goods back.

In law though, the OP should inform Amazon - the goods belong to Amazon even if they were sent in error. Not the receiver's to keep, I'm afraid.

Lou It's dispatched not batched.

Phone or email customer services to let them know and they'll probably tell you to just keep it.

With the amount of profits they take, I'd keep it

Lol I cannot believe how sanctimonious some people are on here. Probably the kind of people whose dh's earn 100k, obviously they would have no need of a free ball pit. Keep it an give it to someone as a present.

MN hysteria is hilarious! Teaching my children to steal? My DD has just turned one, hasn't even seen the package and as clever as she is, I doubt she'd understand what's going on! 😂

The OP has no need of a ball pit, she already has one. She's keeping it just because she thinks she can.

To be fair, no-one really needs a ball pit. Very unhygienic they are

Flipping heck id keep it. Its their mistake. Why should you go out of your way to take it to the post office. Consider it a gift!

Update

Turns out it wasn't a mistake! DP's brother bought and sent the ballpit for DD's birthday 😂 Why he sent it in my name, I don't know!

You can now call off the police and social services, turns out I'm not a thief!

Oh god and here come the sceptical brigade.

As if the OP would make up a story about her BIL just because a load of random strangers on the internet said some mean things about her being a thief.

Fuck off.

Ah. So not a thief then.

Just someone who has received a gift but would happily take something that wasn't belonging to them if the circumstances arose

I'm feckin hysterical me....

Nope. I'm a single parent.

I would also question the sentiment that anyone "needs" a ball pool Grin
