AIBU to hope? Warming to Corbyn...

He's the oldest of old dogs. His colleagues seem to loath him. But reading his Chatham House speech, there was very little to disagree with.and healthy domestic proposals. VAT on private school fees (yes). Tax on the highest 5% earners (yes). Higher corporation tax - not on small businesses (yes). Reducing danger of inflated executive pay through government tender changes (yes). Protecting bees (yes yes yes). He's not looking for gimmicky vote winners, he's been banging on about this stuff for years (and no one could deny his tenacity in the leadership process). Labour has some real talents like Keir Starmer Wouldn't we prefer him rather than Boris Johnson taking on Trump? Do miracles happen?

I don't understand why people would not vote for a fairer society.

People need to vote for policies, not individuals.

Party leaders are figureheads. Policies are all made behind doors by a team of people.

Do you really think Theresa May woke up, done her 'woman jobs' and thought 'I think I will bring back fox hunting'

I am actually a Jeremy fan, but am under no illusion that he single handedly devised the whole Labour manifesto.

Yet all those things you have stated could be vlassed as 'gimmicky vote winners'

Let's see his workings out as to how much it will cost and if it is realistic first.

I have lost count as to how many policies CGT is paying for.

People need to vote for policies, not individuals.

Some people have red lines.

Taxing the rich in order to reduce poverty is 'gimmicky''? Tories excel at pretendy politics. Just look at their negotiating approach to Brexit. Terrifying. Am definitely voting Labour and even if there is a landslide for the Tories, at least I'll be voting FOR fairness and not a British society where the government is anxious to appease bankers who are unhappy because their annual bonus is only 650k.

Seriously, you really think people who vote Conservative dont think they are also voting for a fairer society?

You can bang on all until the cows come home about voting for the policies but if you think the people responsible for delivering the polices aren't able to afford or deliver them then your voting for a worse society.

We need to vote for someone who is offering policies that are realistic, affordable and most importantly will be able to delivery then.

Corbyn, McDonald, Abbot and Thornberry can't even do simple maths never mind run a countries economy.

They sound nice the ideas. But then ice cream daily sounds fab, until you realise you've put on weight.
The problem Is often unintended consequences.
A higher tax on higher earners just won't be enough to vaguely get started. So either borrowing increases or taxes for everyone increases.

I have until this time voted Labour, however this moral superiority that some Labour voters have is ridiculous.

Take banning internships. Fairer?
Yes but...
My DD does a course at uni where they apply centrally for jobs. The system has decided, to be fair, and not take into account internships and also extra curricula stuff. (Some people might not have had the opportunity)
The result is that the students no longer have any interest in developing themselves as "most people just get a job anyway" so there is no need to make any more effort....
Unintended consequences.

I don't get it, everyone keeps asking how labour will afford to fund the NHS, scrap tuition fees and increase the police like its a complete impossibility! May says we are going to spend billions on trident and people are just 'meh!'

I don't agree with the tax on private schooling. It's a nice idea in principle but what happens if it's enough to prevent parents from sending their kids to a private school? The cost of a state education will be a LOT more.

We couldn't cope if there weren't any private schools. They take away burden from our state funded education system.

I agree that the Tory increase of the debt, for example, barely gets a mention, as well as the millions they will be spending on Brexit.

Labour talks about finding the NHS better on the other hand, and people look at them as if they are chancers/dreamers/idiots.

Most Tory "fairer society" gestures are tokens. I believe ltitle of what they say. More funding towards Mental Health - great - not when you take into account the 6000 axed psychiatric nursing positions though. Masters at spin.

I will be voting Lib Dem though as I cannot stand anyone else's position on the EU.

If they think they are, they are deluded. Unless you mean it's fairer for those who are already doing ok and can afford good private pensions, private healthcare, a mortgage or high rents.
I wonder what sort of bubble Tory voters live in to be honest.

Is it fair to have a society where you work your socks off and try hard but still can't afford a decent home or lifestyle?
No one should have to try extra. We should all do our best and some are more able than others.
Some are born into far more advantages than others.
We should all get the best education and opportunities....but that doesn't happen.

Firstly, Labour are also committed to Trident. Secondly, the annual cost of Trident is far less than Labour's pledges to increase spending as outlined in its manifesto.

Approx one in ten children are privately educated.
Increase the costs to them and a proportion will move to the overcrowded state sector. ....needing more funding....
