He's the oldest of old dogs. His colleagues seem to loath him. But reading his Chatham House speech, there was very little to disagree with.and healthy domestic proposals. VAT on private school fees (yes). Tax on the highest 5% earners (yes). Higher corporation tax - not on small businesses (yes). Reducing danger of inflated executive pay through government tender changes (yes). Protecting bees (yes yes yes). He's not looking for gimmicky vote winners, he's been banging on about this stuff for years (and no one could deny his tenacity in the leadership process). Labour has some real talents like Keir Starmer Wouldn't we prefer him rather than Boris Johnson taking on Trump? Do miracles happen?

Is it as ridiculous as popping on a uniform, hopping on a horse and galloping around the countryside looking for animals to kill?

Dawndonnaagain · 15/05/2017 07:50

Head everyone knows someone who shouldn't be getting ESA. My dd for example was reported recently because she looks fine. Fortunately they took it for what it was, a malicious call. She does look totally fine from the outside, however, she's in constant pain which is often severe and she has four suicide attempts under her belt.
Obviously you know your family member, but this anecdata is one of the things that has encouraged and increased disability hate crime and is the thing the Tories rely on to spread their word. May claimed that they'd helped people with disabilities the other day whilst refusing to say whether there would be further cuts to welfare. So, in all likelihood there will be. The claim that she has helped is farcical!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 15/05/2017 07:57

Is what as ridiculous as that?

If you are referring to me saying that Andrew Murrays appointment is ridiculous then I'm sorry but appointing someone who was a member of the Communist Party but left it recently to Labour in the last couple of months and is a defender of North Korea is a good candidate to head your election campaign. Yes it is ridiculous.

It isn't a competition as to what is 'more ridiculous'

Headofthehive55 · 15/05/2017 07:59

I agree it's a extremely difficult judgement to make and I wouldn't like to be the one making it. However I think we should attempt to.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/05/2017 08:51

head perhaps with fluctuating conditions, I agree. But there are people with family who are never going to change. They were once given lifetime awards, or at the very least, ten year awards. This rarely happens now and causes so much unnecessary worry and distress for people. There really does have to be a better way of doing it.

makeourfuture · 15/05/2017 09:06

On Monday, a source close to Corbyn said: “It is simply untrue that Andrew is heading up the campaign. He has been seconded to support the campaign.”

Whataboutit?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/05/2017 10:16

this anecdata is one of the things that has encouraged and increased disability hate crime

Granted there will always be maniacs, but doesn't this ignore the fact that most are perfectly capable of considering welfare without tarring absolutely everyone with the same brush?

And what's the alternative - ban discussion just in case someone takes their agenda way too far? That sounds worryingly like a move towards thought crime to me ...

citroenpresse · 15/05/2017 10:21

makeourfuture exactly. A known quantity, a mucker for many years of Corbyn (Stop the War etc). So what? Characters like Aaron Banks, or the data analytical people or even Nigel Farage are much more dangerous to democracy. A 'defender of North Korea' ....are you googling Piglet? What does that actually MEAN?

We have a rubbish choice. Corybn is so unpopular with his own party, hardly surprising he has a smaller list of comrades to choose from to run his election team, but that doesn't mean that Labour MPs are not needed in parliament or that Labour policies are unsound. At least they are acknowledging the scale of the problems.

Whataboutit?

Would you complain if Theresa May had an advisor who left the BNP only 5 months Ago?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 15/05/2017 10:25

A known quantity, a mucker for many years of Corbyn

So? Are you saying it's jobs for mates then? The exact thing Corbynites blame others for. Or is it OK now because Corbyn is doing it?

Corybn is so unpopular with his own party, hardly surprising he has a smaller list of comrades to choose from to run his election team

It isn't his election team. It's Labours.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/05/2017 10:29

Patrick Rock.
Andy Coulson.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 15/05/2017 10:35

I notice that you haven't listed anyone to do with other parties on your list there Dawn.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/05/2017 10:37

I rather thought that had been done for me...

citroenpresse · 15/05/2017 10:46

Piglet are you suggesting that cronyism is dangerous to our democracy (in which case it is astonishing you could consider voting Tory) or are you scared of the 'hard left' (whatever that means - I certainly don't. We are not in the 1970s any more). I'd imagine many Labour MPs are out there fighting for their seats...this is probably Corbyn's one and only chance to contest a general election as leader. If he wanted some familiar faces around him, would that be so strange? I'd imagine, as an individual, his personal beliefs are much more extreme than most of his colleagues and than the leaked highlights of the manifesto. Labour MPs are still needed, even if Corbyn goes.

OP posts:
makeourfuture · 15/05/2017 10:52

Well i thought the war was awful.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 15/05/2017 10:58

(in which case it is astonishing you could consider voting Tory)

Now you are making things up. I have never said I will vote Tory in fact I've categorically said I won't. I also won't vote Labour at the moment either.

citroenpresse · 15/05/2017 11:08

Piglet that sounds a bit accusing...I'm only saying that if you feel so strongly about cronyism, surely that would rule out (as it would for any voter with strong anti-cronyism views) considering voting Tory. Not that you are voting Tory.

I have been googling I had no Idea who Andrew Murray was.

Andrew Murray, the coalition's chairman, wrote an article in the Morning Star to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Stalin's birth. He acknowledged that the tyrant had used "harsh measures" but asked why "hack propagandists abominate the name of Stalin beyond all others". That there were 20 million reasons didn't seem to occur to him. Murray is on the politburo of the Communist Party of Britain (which must never be confused with the Communist Party of Great Britain). In a report to his comrades in March, he said the coalition should have two slogans: "Stop the war" and "Blair must go".... Thus, a living fossil from the age of European dictators was heading the biggest protest of the new century

Our Party has already made its basic position of solidarity with People[']s Korea clear

Its very worrying that people don't feel worried and concerned about this.

citroenpresse · 15/05/2017 11:24

What exactly are you worried about? Are you more likely to be brainwashed by a Stalinist or have an NHS operation cancelled because the Government won't pay for the Microsoft upgrade to prevent a cyberattack?

OP posts:
makeourfuture · 15/05/2017 11:30

Why is stopping the war bad?

Justanotherlurker · 15/05/2017 11:32

Are you more likely to be brainwashed by a Stalinist or have an NHS operation cancelled because the Government won't pay for the Microsoft upgrade to prevent a cyberattack?

What type of whataboutism is this?

whatcanIdo1 · 15/05/2017 11:32

My hospital has vastly improved under this government - whether down to them or not who knows but I do know after Labour gov it was literally run into the ground and had a reputation as somewhere you wanted to avoid at all costs. Those that didn't came out with horror stories. Its much much better now and people are not asking ambulances to divert to the other one now.

I find it chilling anyone could support or brush this under the carpet. No one would if any Tory had links to Nazi party and yet Stalin killed and ruined the lives of many many more people than the Nazis. I don't understand why anyone would align themselves with this.

Its not just the NHS who was attacked BTW but comps all over the world, many of whom would have had higher grade protection systems.

whatcanIdo1 · 15/05/2017 11:33

Why is openly supporting NOrth Korea Good.

whatcanIdo1 · 15/05/2017 11:34

This is an ideology people are subscribing too - its brain washing like religion. I don't believe people who put Ideology first will ever run any country for the good, history clearly tells us this.

citroenpresse · 15/05/2017 11:47

I absolutely don't support North Korea or Stalinism but I don't see any lurking danger of those beliefs threatening democracy in the same way that Aaron Banks does, for example. Tories are now classified with the most extreme right wing groups in Europe. the biggest threat is not voting at all.
