He's the oldest of old dogs. His colleagues seem to loath him. But reading his Chatham House speech, there was very little to disagree with.and healthy domestic proposals. VAT on private school fees (yes). Tax on the highest 5% earners (yes). Higher corporation tax - not on small businesses (yes). Reducing danger of inflated executive pay through government tender changes (yes). Protecting bees (yes yes yes). He's not looking for gimmicky vote winners, he's been banging on about this stuff for years (and no one could deny his tenacity in the leadership process). Labour has some real talents like Keir Starmer Wouldn't we prefer him rather than Boris Johnson taking on Trump? Do miracles happen?

@citroenpresse I genuinely hope people follow your lead!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 20:54

As for 'his own mp's don't like him' it's new labour - Tory lites - frankly they are not labour and never were.

Right so Labour are only Labour if they agree with you. Next you will be blaming 'the wrong type of electorate'

we don't negotiate with terrorists' has been shown to be mostly pointless.

Are you going to invite ISIS around for tea and biscuits then?

coconuttella · 12/05/2017 20:55

it's new labour - Tory lites - frankly they are not labour and never were.

Who the hell are you to say they were never Labour? They're active members as much as you are!

MaggieLightBlue · 12/05/2017 20:58

The show's not over!

coconuttella · 12/05/2017 20:58

The show's not over!

Wishful thinking!

DearyDearyDeary · 12/05/2017 20:59

So. You voted SNP last time around. How is voting Labour going to help this time?

Aside from letting a Tory in.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 21:03

The show's not over!

Oh it really is. Even Labour MPs have admitted it.

When it happens who are you going to blame. I'm sure it won't be anything to do with dear leader will it?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 21:07

New aid has now been fired due to the discovery of disgusting tweets.

Sounding more and more like a plot from The Thick of It.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 12/05/2017 21:14

justanotherlurker Welcome fellow momentum poster, did you place your bet at the bookies so it would change the narrative.

That made me chuckle thank you lurker needed it 2 day Grin

JustAnotherPoster00 · 12/05/2017 21:17

guido though couldnt get more right wing if you tried piglet, I think it is quite interesting how the media do seem to be trying to shift the narrative to the way they want it again especially the BBC, demonstrable proof they did it with the indyref and brexit, its a shame that they cant stick to their remit of being a public broadcaster not a tory mouthpiece

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 21:22

guido though couldnt get more right wing if you tried piglet

The tweets speak for themselves. Or do you think they are acceptable?

It is ridiculous that the party doesn't look into this stuff before hiring people!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 12/05/2017 21:25

But that could be said of all parties, very very few exceptions

Justanotherlurker · 12/05/2017 21:25

its a shame that they cant stick to their remit of being a public broadcaster not a tory mouthpiece

They are not a tory mouthpiece, they are a government controlled mouth piece if anything and they are still impartial as such, the old saying goes that if it pisses of the political sphere of left and right wing then it is doing its job,

The fact it became such a government mouth piece recently could have something to do with David Kelly though.

Justanotherlurker · 12/05/2017 21:29

Guido, even though being on the right, is well respected within the political sphere even on the left

Justanotherlurker · 12/05/2017 21:37

Well of course they don't need a manifesto, if they had anything, they could do it now. Or ten years ago.

They have done a lot within 10 years, it is you who refuses to see anything other than negative, the partisan football game you play is getting a little tired.

Wait, they did. No plan Brexit. Tax give aways to corporations. Re-inflate housing bubble. Attack disabled.

No body had a plan for brexit, the tax giveaways to corporations is a not only a juvenile response (especially from someone who has stated their age bracket) but show a complete lack of knowledge of the globalisation, nor the caps on bonuses etc that the tories have brought in.

If you think the tories re-inflated the bubble or the more salient point that if any government want to be in control when the housing market crashes, your even more naive than you come across.

Justanotherlurker · 12/05/2017 21:53

Brexit wan't a left v right issue, that is the problem with Labour and many of there supporters at the minute.

Indy ref is a different issue though.

BBC is still balanced enough considering most people revert into echo chambers within social media.

citroenpresse · 12/05/2017 22:34

Caps on bonuses the Tories brought in? Isn't this EU policy...George Osborne fought it ferociously but had to give in. The tax on corporations won't have any affect on UK attractiveness for inward investment and relocation but it will bring in revenue. Corporations look for many other factors in terms of attractiveness. Brexit has already done the damage there. City institutions already announcing moves and areas where the UK has excelled in STM, are losing research funds and researchers. UK was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Horizon2020 funding. No one has ever on the remain side, explained who is now going to replace that.

Corbyn's team will run out of steam soon they can only promise so much

Lots of time left to pull apart their manifesto of fluffy promises and to destroy the principled man persona becuase he is not

The only time Labour have been as shrewd with their election campaigns is under Blair don't think the Tories won't throw everything they can at the public to put them off from voting for Corbyn to be PM

There is nothing principled about this man

citroenpresse · 12/05/2017 23:02

Oh yes let's not fall for 'fluffy promises'. Brexit will be a 'success' as long as you repeat 'strong and stable' enough times. Does anyone treat manifestos seriously? Certainly not the Tories. Win votes, break promises. Even the Telegraph regularly points out their economic policy failures.

OP posts:
EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 12/05/2017 23:05

I haven't said anything about the Tory manifesto

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/05/2017 23:08

It is ridiculous that the party doesn't look into this stuff before hiring people!

Don't discount the possibility that they knew about it but hoped nobody would find out ...

SeaWitchly · 12/05/2017 23:23

YANBU OP.

Labour has my vote.

Graphista · 13/05/2017 01:09

"but of all the issues, this isn't one to attack the Tories on." Why not? It affects all fit to work adults, affects everyone via the state of the economy. Austerity isn't working it never works. You can't run uk inc without spending money and expect profits to increase (or at least debt to decrease).

Not just me saying they aren't and never were real labour, plenty of party members and voters agree. They don't share the experience or the beliefs of true socialists.

Losing Scotland the last GE had a huge effect on the result. I'm hearing from many people who voted snp last time that they're voting labour this time in order to try and get tories/may out.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/05/2017 08:19

Not just me saying they aren't and never were real labour, plenty of party members and voters agree

Plenty more don't as we will see on the 8th June. After all they would win an absolute landslide wouldn't they....

Losing Scotland the last GE had a huge effect on the result. I'm hearing from many people who voted snp last time that they're voting labour this time in order to try and get tories/may out

Yet it is the Tories that are predicted to gain 8-10 seats.
