He's the oldest of old dogs. His colleagues seem to loath him. But reading his Chatham House speech, there was very little to disagree with.and healthy domestic proposals. VAT on private school fees (yes). Tax on the highest 5% earners (yes). Higher corporation tax - not on small businesses (yes). Reducing danger of inflated executive pay through government tender changes (yes). Protecting bees (yes yes yes). He's not looking for gimmicky vote winners, he's been banging on about this stuff for years (and no one could deny his tenacity in the leadership process). Labour has some real talents like Keir Starmer Wouldn't we prefer him rather than Boris Johnson taking on Trump? Do miracles happen?

This gentleman Labour HQ have just employed sounds delightful....

I read that earlier, but the fact they have Seamus Milne in the ranks shows what type of people he wants.

It's quite amusing watching the same people who where in hysterics of the russian involvement bogey man to be so quiet of such and apologist such as him within there ranks

FeelTheNoise · 12/05/2017 18:47

I'll definitely be voting labour. I hadn't done for quite a while because there was no credible candidate in the area I lived in, plus I didn't have confidence after Blair. I like Corbyn, I respect his integrity and I believe his pursuit of fair play and his stubbornness make him the ideal person to represent us internationally.
But most of all, as a country we are seriously failing our most vulnerable and that has got to stop. Not only are we failing people but we're paying for the privilege! Destroying the vulnerable is a disgrace

citroenpresse · 12/05/2017 18:49

Those people would always have been Labour voters

I don't believe that...I think a lot of those people might never have voted at all (like the 70% of people who DIDN'T vote in the local elections). Hopefully for Labour, many voters WILL be more intelligent than just sucking up this strong and stable stuff.

The Tories have nothing.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 18:52

Funnily enough people that don't vote the way you want them to aren't stupid.

Justanotherlurker · 12/05/2017 18:52

You sound like a trump supporter.

Being a prime minister is about have pragmatism and understanding that sometimes you need to you need to see the bigger global issue.

The fact that he has surrounded himself with yes men is not a show of "fair play" in any sense of the word

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 18:54

The Tories have nothing.

Well Labour potentially will have very few MPs after this election. Of course it won't be Corbyn and his teams fault at all will it.

Justanotherlurker · 12/05/2017 18:54

The Tories have nothing.

They have more than Labour, that's the point, they only have to beat what is put in front of them.

MaggieLightBlue · 12/05/2017 18:59

The national turnout for the local elections was only 26%

The turnout for the last general election was approx 60%

The turnout for the EU referendum was approx 76%

Do the maths.

c3pu · 12/05/2017 19:00

The Tories have nothing

They have approximately 20 point lead in the polls, which is all they need.

MaggieLightBlue · 12/05/2017 19:01

And in the last general election, the Tories beat Labour by 5%

MaggieLightBlue · 12/05/2017 19:02

The polls which have been incorrect the last few elections.

The poll companies which are owned by mainstream media, which is owned by Conservative supporters

coconuttella · 12/05/2017 19:06

The Tories have nothing

A bit premature.... their manifesto isn't out yet.

FeelTheNoise · 12/05/2017 19:07

I'm definitely not a trump supporter! Just because you disagree with my political beliefs, doesn't mean it's ok to insult me. I want to be governed by someone who doesn't pander to thugs like trump and doesn't throw us into wars that kill innocents and cost quite literally a bomb. I see war as an absolute last resort, and I believe Corbyn shares that view.
I've seen disabled friends absolutely distraught at the pip process, with mental health deteriorating and physical symptoms significantly worsening.
My family has been utterly failed while at our most vulnerable, policies that should have been fairer.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 19:08

The polls which have been incorrect the last few elections.

That old chestnut.

Historically polls over estimate Labour support so it could be even more of a landslide.

Hence the 'shy Tory' label.

Anon213 · 12/05/2017 19:09

The Cult of Corbyn is quite scary, it sounds just like the Trump campaign. Just because JC says its a policy means nothing, there is no evidence it would happen, if we could afford it or the impact of it.

Who pays for it when you tax business more? Its the customers, the working class and the middle class that pay for it. So if you believe people earning under £80,000 wont be affected then you are deluded.

The Mexicans will pay for the wall. Will they?
The Rich will pay for our schools. Will they, will they really?
You might think it would be fair but you would still be deluded.
And by the size of the polls most of the country seem to get it.

MaggieLightBlue · 12/05/2017 19:10

Tory voters are hateful people, essentially

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 19:11

Tory voters are hateful people, essentially

How mature. Grow up and stop being so goady.

I don't vote Tory and won't vote Labour whilst Corbyn is in charge.

Justanotherlurker · 12/05/2017 19:13

The polls which have been incorrect the last few elections.

Lol, no they haven't, Brexit was within the margin of error, so was Trump.

The last GE the polling data was kind of wrong and they have adjusted it because it was more in favour of Labour than it was Tory, but it doesn't matter because being 20 points behind consistently is not within any margin of error

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/05/2017 19:14

And in the last general election, the Tories beat Labour by 5%

But they didn't have Corbyn as leader then ...

Headofthehive55 · 12/05/2017 19:19

Lifelong labour voter but not this time.

Anon213 · 12/05/2017 19:21

I was told once that when you are in a hole you stop digging. Labour haven't told Corbyn that because he is digging his own grave.

May just needs to stand there and he makes her look good.

makeourfuture · 12/05/2017 19:22

Theresa May’s “strong and stable” election slogan has rapidly become a strong and stable meme, with people delighting in counting its absurd repetitions

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/may/10/strong-and-stable-leadership-could-theresa-mays-rhetorical-carpet-bombing-backfire

There is just nothing there.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/05/2017 19:24

There is just nothing there.

Glad you have a crystal ball to see what will be in yet unpublished manifestos.

citroenpresse · 12/05/2017 19:28

Why not Headofthehive55 but if it is too personal a question, just ignore. People should vote according to individual values and beliefs. I'm really curious. Until the foreign policy speech at Chatham House I had no intention of voting Labour, but I changed my mind today. When Theresa May became PM was frankly relieved after Brexit but have changed my mind about her also...the posturing with the EU is so amateurish in terms of strategy.
