AIBU?

Wedding Gift, Afternoon Tea and Skegness.

Posting for traffic.

DP's best mate is getting married.

They asked for money in the card as they wanted to spend it on the honeymoon. We have just found out honeymoon is to be in Skegness.

We thought it would be lovely to get them a voucher for something they can do whilst there rather than just cash as it seems so impersonal. So I thought they would love something like a champagne afternoon tea DP agrees.

I cannot find anywhere in Skegness that provides this, I have spent hours googling and all I am getting is lots of results for Lincoln.

AIBU to think that there must be somewhere nice in Skegness for afternoon tea and the MN can help me find it!?

If you can't find afternoon tea why don't you get them vouchers for a restaurant instead? Fab idea by the way.

I actually think you should just give cash or at least discuss the afternoon tea idea with them, it's a lovely thought but they may already have planned what they want to do

I'd give them the cash. However I'm always happy when people ask for something whether it's cash or a gift as it means I don't have to think

We won't be giving cash to this particular couple.

Restaurant vouchers could be a nice alternative.

They do really like Skeggy and go fairly often so even if they didn't use them on the honeymoon I am sure they would get used at a later point.

I don't understand. If they have asked for money, why wouldn't you give it to them?

No I haven't been to Skegness, yes I appreciate it is a stretch hence asking here.

Because we don't want to, it is our gift, our money our choice and I didn't come on to ask about whether it was right or not this is the decision we have made.

You can probably get a deep fried afternoon tea in Skeggy but I doubt you'll get a champagne one!

Could you just give them champagne to have a toast on the holiday?

You are not obliged to give them cash if you don't want to. You don't have to justify it. I don't mind brides and grooms expressing a gift preference for those that wish to buy but it's always up to the giver what they choose to get.

No need to be so defensive. Was merely asking because you were having difficulty in giving what you wanted. So, take the easier option and give them the money. As pp has said, they may have already planned out their honeymoon. They might have asked for money for a specific reason.

Are You SURE they are having a honeymoon in Skeg?

Report
HairsprayBabe · 09/02/2017 13:40

Yes I am sure they are honeymooning there DP spoke to the bride a few days ago and she is v excited.

It didn't have to be champagne afternoon tea, a normal tea tea would be ok or prosecco!

Are you sure this isn't just the joke location when the bride is about to experience a surprise honeymoon in Maui??

HairsprayBabe · 09/02/2017 13:41

I knew I would get responses like that, but it just isn't the question I asked. There are several reasons we don't want to give so we came up with this instead.

And yes I am SURE it is Skegness! Bride to be loves it there apparently!

The Crown Hotel has a decent trip advisor review.

I agree with pp though, Skeg Vegas is more turbo shandy than Champagne!
