To wonder why people dislike Tess Daly so much?

I don't particularly like her. She's a bit try hard. But she's a lot better than Bruce Forsyth who I had to fast forward through.

I really don't understand why some people have such an intense dislike of her.

YANBU -I like her and Claudia presenting.

QuiteLikely5 · 11/12/2016 17:31

I've never heard that people have an intense like of her and common sense would say the basis for having that intense dislike is ridiculous as know body knows her past a few auto cue lines she reads on strictly

Thisjustinno · 11/12/2016 17:35

I don't particularly dislike her but think she's lacking in talent and is an awful presenter. I can never understand how she got so far.

Having resided on Digital spy the following criticisms, unfair or not, are levelled at her:

  1. lack of spontaneity/frozen reactions/difficulty coping off script
  2. in same vein accused of being a Tessbot (newzoids sketch) "cold dead eyes"
  3. lack of sincerity/authenticity in terms of switching charm on/off and switching accent on/off
  4. wardrobe disasters

Me? I like her. Takes a lot to make a show live and make it look seamless. Harder than it looks.
On top of that, people who have seen show filmed say off camera she is very warm and off the cuff funny.

iogo · 11/12/2016 17:42

I like her and I love Claudia. Two women presenting one of the Beebs flagship shows is fab.

The little comedy bits that Claudia does make me laugh every week. At first it came across that they irritated Tess but I think she's got used to them. Smile

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 11/12/2016 17:47

They both claim to get on really well off screen, eating together and so on. Way I see it is tess more than paid her dues when co presenting with Bruce so for carrying him/being there in case he lost plot, she deserves to stay on strictly until she leaves on her terms.

CrystalMcPistol · 11/12/2016 17:50

She's a terrible presenter. Too much forced laughter and she always seems a bit tense and unsure about what's going to happen next. She's not as annoying as her husband though.

CrystalMcPistol · 11/12/2016 17:51

And yes, lack of sincerity. She does seem quite fake at times.

neonrainbow · 11/12/2016 17:51

Tess is a truly terrible presenter. It's not enough that she's a woman to make her worth having presenting prime time weekend tv. She has no charisma or talent and being better than Bruce is also not enough. Theres plenty of other people out there who would do a better job.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 11/12/2016 17:52

Ah, just seen a critique on other thread:

  1. turning into Bruce "we all loved it" rhetoric
  2. inane grinning
  3. bland robotic

Thing is, until someone else does it eg Zoe/Mel/Anita/Kate Thornton...no one will realise they miss Tess until she's gone.

Lostwithinthehills · 11/12/2016 17:54

I find her irritating. I don't tend to watch the type of shows she presents, but if there was something I was interested in watching Tess' involvement would put me off. She seems to me to be a bit smug and I feel that her northern accent is hammed up as her usp. I feel Vernon Kay hams his accent up for the same reason. Of course I don't know them, they may be perfectly nice but their careers are founded on perceptions about them based on their public persona.

BakeOffBiscuits · 11/12/2016 17:54

I don't think she's a "terrible" presenter. She's a lot better than Bruce!

I like the fact isn't not about her like a lot of male presenters she gets on with the job and IMO does it well.

I LOVE Claudia and the fact two women are presenting the most watched show in the UK.

Peachesandcream15 · 11/12/2016 17:54

Mostly the criticism is that she is fake and has an annoying voice. Maybe that's a snobby thing. No, it is a snobby thing.

I agree though - its taken a long time for two women to present a Saturday night prime time show together without a man in sight. And it's great to see.

Mrsmorton · 11/12/2016 17:56

Why is it snobby to find someone irritating? Confused

GirlOverboard · 11/12/2016 17:58

I don't mind her. She's fairly bland and inoffensive which is better than being annoying (I find that most light entertainment presenters get on my nerves). Zoe Ball would do a much better job, although I wouldn't want her to leave It Takes Two.

Unescorted · 11/12/2016 17:58

switching accent on/off that is the accent up this way, where she is from. Hers is quite mild - some peole go from Manchester, Cheshire darlink to deepest darkest Derbyshire in the space of a sentence.

Peachesandcream15 · 11/12/2016 18:03

I think some people find her accent annoying. I think that's snobby.

OP posts:
hmcAsWas · 11/12/2016 18:03

I have no problem with her - although I am not an avid Strictly follower

Goingtobeawesome · 11/12/2016 18:04

I don't like her because she does the annoying head tilt thing as if it's sexy or cute and can't say salsa properly.

I think Claudia is brilliant.

Pigeonpair1 · 11/12/2016 18:04

Looking panicked when things look like they might go off script.

Gurning at the camera while the other presenter Bruce/Claudia is doing their bit.

Clutching the contestants far too tightly.

Saying "they're on their feet" all the time.

W8woman · 11/12/2016 18:05

There's a hardness to Tess that I don't like. Fearne Cotton has it too, as well as a few women I've worked with over the years.

Women who have succeeded by being decorative, ambitious and determined, rather than talented.

She's miles better than Brucey though.

Zoe and Claudia would be my favourite duo since Laurel and Hardy.

Clawdy · 11/12/2016 18:06

No, it's annoying because she exaggerates it. You can tell it's not her normal voice, she's trying to sound more Northern, more like her husband.

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 11/12/2016 18:07

I don't mind her - (I LOVE Claudia), but I would love to know what she has done to pee off the wardrobe department - she is landed with some truly HORRIBLE frocks! And she has wonky boobs (this from a woman who doesn't have any Grin) - I would think she should be wearing dresses that will allow for a decent foundation garment to keep her mammary glands in situ.

Mind - for a woman in her mid-forties she is very attractive ('course, I could look like that with a team of make-up artists, hairdressers, dieticians and masseurs looking after me. Probably.Grin)
