To wonder why people dislike Tess Daly so much?

I don't particularly like her. She's a bit try hard. But she's a lot better than Bruce Forsyth who I had to fast forward through.

I really don't understand why some people have such an intense dislike of her.

Has anyone commenting on presenters in this thread ever done anything like the job? It's far far harder & more complicated than it looks. The skill of a presenter is to make it look as though "anyone could do it." But most people can't do it.

Ms Daly has that skill in spades, and is charming and charismatic with it.

areyoubeingserviced · 11/12/2016 21:58

I think that it is great to see two women hosting Strictly.
Tess has been there since the start ,do deserves to stay.
Btw , I think that Zoe Bsll does a brilliant job on ITT. She makes presenting look so easy.

flumpybear · 11/12/2016 21:59

She really doesn't tulip

StripedTulip · 11/12/2016 22:04

She really does, Flumpy

Gosh, we all have different opinions, don't we?

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2016 22:05

As it's far far harder and more complicated than it looks all the more reason to get someone good at it to do it.

TD can't do it, and really doesn't make it look easy/effortless at all.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2016 22:06

Zoe does make it look easy. She presented the live tour one year and was brilliant at that too. You feel she is a safe pair of hands and you don't have to cringe the whole time.

SABeeTiger · 11/12/2016 22:10

The thing is for me, no matter how long she has presented it for, it never seems like she really enjoys it or has any idea about the content, because she comes across as wooden with no spontaneity. Claudia and Zoe on the other hand, both come across as genuinely liking the show and being interested and knowledgeable about it.

HandbagCrab · 11/12/2016 22:11

I think she's fine. More northerners on prime time please.

I can't believe the comments about oxbridge and marrying well. Hoping it's some mumsnet parody.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/12/2016 22:14

I like her as the straight man to CW's goofball. And agree that she's very professional. I can't remember the last time the show ran over but it used to do so often when Brucey was presenting. She's very good at moving the judges along, etc.

GooseFriend · 11/12/2016 22:17

I really like tess and Claudia. I'm finding this thread hard reading, so much ire for her and a lot of it based on stuff which reads like heat magazine. I think she does a good job and is warm. I think many of these comments are just pure jealousy.

DeepanKrispanEven · 11/12/2016 22:17

She's not my favourite presenter, but I feel she deserves the gig after years of essentially carrying Bruce Forsyth, pretending to find his awful "jokes" funny, and putting up with him pawing her.

SpeckledyBanana · 11/12/2016 22:18

I like Tess and Claudia.

fishandlilacs · 11/12/2016 22:20

We have a phrase that goes hand in hand with mention of Tess Daly..dead behind the eyes. Just look next time she's like a human mako shark.

And why can't she afford two sleeves for her dresses? She's been wearing the same one shouldered style every time I see her

Eliza22 · 11/12/2016 22:21

I always think she's just bland and reading a script....word for word. Claudia gets on my nerves with her "I'm so scatty/I've no idea what I'm doing here" act. It is just tiring for me. All that little girl silly stuff just makes me want to fast forward her. Which is usually what I do.

CotswoldStrife · 11/12/2016 22:24

I am in the minority of liking Tess and not Claudia. Claudia was less ditzy when she did shopping TV, I do think the ditzy bit is put on Hmm

OlennasWimple · 11/12/2016 22:26

I don't particularly like her (I agree she looks kind of dead behind the eyes), but compared to so many others she is really good at what she does. Very few people can do live TV well

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 11/12/2016 22:27

David Williams is creeeeeeeepy, Sharon

R2G · 11/12/2016 22:29

I like both and like the combination. Also think both look stunning in their own style.

airforsharon · 11/12/2016 22:33

Ooh thank God Flappy you too. I don't think I've ever heard a bad word said about him, but he genuinely gives me the chills.

Murphysgirl · 11/12/2016 22:34

There used to be a television series called Faking It where people had a limited amount of time to learn a new skill/job and then had to fool others into thinking that they were experts at it. One woman was learning how to be a TV producer or director (can't remember which) Tess Daly was on the programme she was working on and was a bit of a cow to her. I've never liked her since then.

The crticisms about her accent are unfair though. I come from the same place as Tess and to my ears she doesn't have an accent. That's how we speak. (Wave to Unescorted as we must be from the same area)

Sara107 · 11/12/2016 22:37

I don't have very strong feelings about Tess either way, but I think she suits the show actually. I couldn't watch it when Bruce was doing it!.Tess does seem a bit stiff and scripted but I think that fits the role. I can't imagine her doing well with a chat show but she fits with Strictly.

Lorelei76 · 11/12/2016 22:37

I like her and I like Claudia W. Hated the Bruce segways.

I particularly liked yesterday with Claudia's silly joke, then they showed her still on the crash mat!

It is a nice dynamic having two women presenters.

As someone of ethnic origin I am so jealous of Tess's hair, I realise it's been done for tv but how lovely is that blond curly hair!

Redcrayons · 11/12/2016 22:38

She's so much better suited to the main presenter role than she was when she was doing the Claudia job. She can't do off the cuff so if something unexpected happened she'd carry on with the script and look like she had no clue what was going on and was totally insincere. She was also partial to a bit of 'nudge nudge, they're getting it on' kind of comments (although the Beeb have definitely clamped down on this since all the strictly curse stuff).
I've warmed to her since she's moved into the main role. Plus I cut her some slack for being married to VK.

She needs to lay off the one shouldered numbers though.

PortiaFinis · 11/12/2016 22:40

I like Tess, she's obviously good at it. I think her and Claudia are great.

This thread is so bitchy, I don't understand how people can end up finding so much dislike for someone they've never met.

I doubt she gets to choose her clothes but whatever she wears she always looks stunning.

VonHerrBurton · 11/12/2016 22:43

She's always reminded me of Marti Cain , unsure of spelling. All awkward elbows and big hair. Can take or leave really but her and Claudia do seem uncomfortable together, trying hard not to be but its all a bit try hard for me.

Put up with it as they're not the stars, the contestants and judges are.
