Being reasonably new to this site/chat app ...
Having read a few threads in the last couple of days and coming across a lot of unnecessary comments .. AIBU to ask why it seems a lot of women on here seem very quick to throw nasty, horrible insults at other women on here?
I know people are asking for opinions, but, not character assassinations...!
Shouldn't us mums/women stick together and help eachother with advice instead of throwing horrible, bitchy, comments around?

The AIBU topic has a reputation for being a bit, erm, feisty. There are plenty of other topics which are far more easy going.

And not all posters are women either, there are a number of male MNers too. Nor are we all mums (or dads).

Just because someone is female, or a mother doesn't mean we automatically have to agree on everything - yes sometimes comments can be a bit cutting but tbh if you post on aibu then you need to take it on the chin if people don't agree

YANBU sometimes there is unecessarily nastiness. People behave differently from RL when hid behind a keyboard

How can you tell that this is all from women? I didnt realise there were easy markers to spot by anonymous usernames.

What Fru said. AIBU is a bit of a joke topic. Have a look at all the other topics and you will see examples of support.

And yes, there are not just Mums on here. You have no idea whether a poster is male or female or indeed a parent.

Yeah, well, the site is.... robust which is what I love.
Nastiness IME is very rare and not tolerated.
Not liking when one has been told that one IS unreasonable is only human, but that does not make it nasty or untrue.

I think some people are absolutely vile on here and hide behind 'Oh, you have to have a strong stomach for AIBU'. However, I don't think it's necessarily a 'women not sticking together' issue - some people, regardless of gender, are just belligerent gobby buggers who'd pick a fight in an empty room.

Gentler sites are available - the interweb is vast

AIBU can be harsh at times but it can also be really funny and supportive (I hate the lazy response of 'get it move hun AIBU is awful')

but the internet is vast - look for a forum that better meets your needs

It would be a bit dull if everyone agreed with everyone else about everything and were politely nice all the time though? Maybe some are a bit 'abrupt' but I'd still rather people were honest in their opinions. And lots of posters feel very passionately about certain things which comes across which actually makes discussion more interesting. Best thing to do if you don't like it is to avoid aibu and stick to other topics.

Oh, and if you see 'horrible insults' then do use the 'report' button at the top of each post and MNHQ will intervene.

If you wandered into a pub and found the jukebox too loud, the clientele disagreeable and the menu not to your liking, what would you do? Stand on a bar stool and tell everyone how shit their pub was? Or, perhaps, just go somewhere else?

So, do you think being a woman means you have to like all other women, all of the time, and never disagree with anything another woman says?

I think the OP is right. It is not about about some people being so wholly involved in the subject that they forget themselves in the heat of the moment; it's about some people diving in to be as obnoxious as they can from the outset. About anything. Just to cause a ruck.

One could almost think the OP felt it was his their place to tell women how to behave. Imagine!

Just because I am a woman, or a mum, doesn't mean I have to agree with you.
