I was a massive user of Mumsnet , but i hardly ever visit now because i can guarantee within 10 replies on any thread it will have turned nasty. Why ? I spent many an evening having a real good laugh at some of the stories but now it seems to be who can be the nastiest first . Shame shame .

I agree. MN used to feel more positive..more funny.

Now anything you post gets a barrage of shit and only clams down to reasonable discussion by around 50 posts in.

Yep totally agree,I've taken to private messaging if I'm writing something I don't want criticised ....I've even private messaged someone who had a go at me on two different threads in one night and asked if I'd done something to upset them......I used to love mums net,I don't think I'm resilient enough for it now

There are nasty people in all walks of life.
Hardly 'every thread' or even most turn nasty.
Some do of course, but if its unjust then 9/10 a poster will be along to back the OP up and point out some truths that will shut down nasty posters. I partially agree with you, I not long ago saw a poster who was frustrated with her employment situation and sounded to be doing everything she could told that ''you can't be upset for the fact you didn't work hard enough at school''....
So yes, there are dickheads about. maybe more than before. But the vast majority of the time an unjust flaming will get turned on its head by posters with some sense.

MN isn't one big thing. There's loads of different people who have different attitudes and pet peeves.

Wherever you go there will be nice people and nasty people. Even IRL.

Least on here, if you don't like what people are saying you can either ignore them and carry on or close the window and walk away

Just keep away from AIBU. If you look elsewhere you'll see loads of threads where people are being nothing but lovely, reasonable and supportive.

Only on AIBU really. I've not seen it in other forums. Also, I've noticed people starting threads that are quite defensive and borderline aggressive which set the tone. I'm not saying yours is but some of what you have said will get people's backs up. How can you stereotype the whole of MN by one board?

I disagree that it has got worse. You do have to be resilient to comment or post on some parts of the forum, and in other parts it is very supportive. It has always been the case.
I do think there are more trolls, since penis beaker.

I agree with you op, I've been here over ten years and only recently I've noticed posters seem to be really aggressive sometimes and love to pick apart vulnerable posters

I think the ones who are nasty are probably nasty in real life but on anonymous forums they get free rein to be as nasty as they want without having to hold back.

I find like most forums people tend to turn to arguing with other posters and for that person the thread is no longer about the op.

Very often the Nasty posts are posted in response to the OP's first post, sometimes without reading even that properly, and ignoring any subsequent explanations by the OP. These posters seem to rush in with ill conceived preconceptions (bit of a mixed metaphor there!) about the OP with the sole intention of skittling them. Would be acceptable if they were merely voicing a different opinion but they are not.

Is it nasty of me to say that I find the use of the word "nasty" a bit childish? Ditto horrid.

I much prefer: unpleasant, rude, sarcastic, dismissive, ignorant. There's plenty of that around, I do agree op.

I agree OP, and it seems to always be from the same usernames. Some people must have hell of a chip on their shoulders!

I read and run now if things start getting bitchy. For the most part i find MN to be kind and supportive and I've certainly received some very good advice and guidance.
